This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Never Again - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I am a previous 99 Jetta owner and bought the 06 Jetta in 07 and have had nothing but problems. The dealership hates me because Im constantly in there. Cold starts on this thing are horrible car makes a really annoying noise which I was told all of them make after repeated visits to the dealership for this problem. The headliner came undone and had to be replaced about 2 months ago. I just had the catalytic converter replaced this month and now I have this burning smell coming from the rear of the car. I have to say that Im very disappointed with this vehicle and will probably trade it in soon only because I dont want anything to happen to it when my warranty runs out.

We havent even had our Jetta for one month, but we just LOVE it! It is fun, roomy, and very pretty! =) It costs us $32 to fill up with gas, and we drove almost 500 highway miles before having to fill up. So far this tank, I have drove 350 city miles and still have between a 1/4 and a 1/2 tank left. Pretty good, huh? With VWs resale values, and how extremely pleased we are with our Jetta, were just crazy for not purchasing one sooner!

  • The Closest Thing to a BMW that Ill Have... - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI on a whim when I took my 2003 Passat in for regular maintenance. So far, Im excited to be getting 45 mpg after 2,000 miles, and I get to support the local Midwestern economy by buying a biodiesel fuel blend. This car is "socially responsible." I love the handling; its so sharp in the curves, but the ride is still very compliant over rough pavement. It turns on a dime. The interior is super comfortable and beautiful, but like others, I wish they would have kept the wood trim and other luxuries with Pkg. #2 (which mine has) from 2005. Its pickup is okay; I can still merge on the freeway just fine. Despite its flaws, Im thrilled with my new Jetta!

  • Preventative maintnance from dealership does NOT prevent big problems - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

The 2006 Jetta is certainly fun and comfortable to drive, but is just a big plastic peice of junk. Lets first start with the plastic bottom plate (covering the entire undercarrige of the engine). The only function I can see for this part is to deter you from changing you own oil (containing about 16 star screws).. This car has had all oil changes and inspections by dealer ON TIME.. At 63,000 miles, check engine light came on and a visit to the dealership came back with a $2000+ engine coolant system repair. $1030 for the fans and an additional $1000 for all wires, connectors, and sensors, $340 for CV boot (reportedly cracked and leaking) on front axil.

  • All around great car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Some minor interior quality things need to be improved, like the window buttons have started to loose its paint, and homelink transmitter fell off. Over all its a great car. Have not had one bit of problems with it. Doesnt have that great of pick up and go. But has a lot of modification options which Ive taken advantage of.

  • Pricey But Worth It - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I drove lots of cars (including the Jetta 2.5 and diesel) before finding the GLI. This car performs like no other car in its class that I drove, and I knew instantly it was the car for me. Its fit & finish is top notch and the interior is fantastic. The 2.0 liter turbo engine is smooth and sneaky fast. This is a fun car to drive and gets lots of admiring looks in the parking lot.

  • I Love My Jetta! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought my Jetta in July 2006 and Ive just love it! For a compact sedan, it feels luxurious. Ive always wanted a Jetta, and Im glad I waiting until they came out with a different look. It is bigger than the old model. It has excellent handling on the road. I just wish it got a little better gas mileage. But, with the safety airbag features, you cant go wrong with this car. I got the Package #1. It is awesome!

When I first got the Jetta TDI I was averaging 36 - 38 mpg. After 30,000 miles I am now getting a solid 42-46 mpg driving in Austin commuter traffic. Needless to say I am pleased. Tell me again why hybrids make economic sense. I paid $24,000 for this car and have just priced it out at $21,000 hmm...

  • Drives like a porsche - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Ive replaced many parts with OEM parts, The Radiator, front axles(2), new brakes- front/back, timing belt, water pump, front airbag, turn signal led strip, 4 new tires- 65k warranty. Body has a few small dings and scrapes, leather interior is very good condition, overall a good daily driver or 2nd backup vehicle, dependable and drives great.

Ive owned my Jetta TDI now for two months and love it! Im getting outstanding mileage, 42-46+ mpg, over 600 miles per tank, and the engine still is not broken in yet. Im 6 tall and this car has plenty of head and leg room for me. It runs smoothly and quietly, is very easy to drive, has a nice tight turning radius, and very quick acceleration when you step on it. The color is the new 2006 green, which is very sharp looking against the chrome. The trunk is enormous, and the fold down seats are wonderful for cargo - maybe too big. I very much like the standard airbags in the front and back. The back seats are a little tight for leg room if the driver has the seat back though.
