Overview & Reviews
Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

I love my VW Jetta diesel - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By greenjanell - February 13 - 10:56 amI just bought my Jetta two weeks ago. I am getting awesome gas mileage. I went on the interstate with my cruise set at 80 mph and the gas mileage was 38 mpg. In regular driving around town I get 40 - 45mpg. I love the space in the trunk and the seats. I think they should change the cruise control placement. I am a power freak, and was looking at a car that could fit my lead foot bu still get good gas mileage. I was afraid of the small 100 HP engine, untill I drove it. I was instantly hooked. I could not believe the power it has. the torque is amazing, and the take off is good. I notice some slugishness in second gear, but its easily overcome with a little fuel.

Great Car! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Jetta 06 - February 10 - 10:06 amThis is the first German car Ive owned. Ive always driven Hondas, Toyotas and an occassional domestic. Even though I bought the base model, it feels much more expensive and solid than anything I drove from Japan. Im very impressed with the build quality and materials as well as the amount of features that are standard. Not to mention the safety factor. Also, it rides like a little Audi or BMW. I definitely feel like I got my moneys worth from the Jetta!

total lemon - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By paul206 - February 9 - 9:37 pm$8,000. & counting. In the shop as we speak for same problem - replaced cam shaft & lifters twice. Started bellowing black soot & delayed throttle. Had a complete diagnostic before warrenrty expired - "not a problem" until warrenty expired then became downright VERY DANGEROUS. Then after problem was apparantly fixed - cam & lifters = $$$ thousands the turbo would shut off & again VERY DANGEROUS going up inclines on highways. VW (canadas) reply - "NO CAMPAIGN existing" which in VW land means go away - we dont care).

Lots of Fun Including the New Technology - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By RB - January 22 - 8:46 pmI have done my homework reviewing and testing driving sports sedans (Maxda6, Acura TSX, Pontiac G6, Volvo 40/50, Sabb 9-3) over a 3 month period before settling on the 06 Jetta. Ive traditionally bought North American GM. My GM products have done me well but they dont have the fit/finish and technology that the Jetta offers. My Jetta is loaded to the gills no other options available, 2.0T, DSG Auto, side front rear airbags, and zenon headlights. I have 2,200 km. on it so far. The car is real fun to drive, quick and responsive, no rattles and squeaks. Drives better at 160km/hr with still lots of pep to go. Overall mechanicall better then all the other cars tested, performance and technology.

2006 Jetta TDI (Forget Hybrid & Get TDI) - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Andy Haroon - January 8 - 8:23 amI bought the 2005.5 Volkswagen Jetta TDI and a month later was so impressed that I sold my other car and got another 2006 TDI for my wife. This vehicle rocks. I try to find excuses to drive it. I personally like the 2005.5 just because VW threw in free options like the heated seats, automatic rain sensing wipers, dual climatic control, entry / exit illumination (VW calls it coming home feature), and the MFI system. On the 2006 model you have to get package two (almost $5,000 more to get options like these). So our 2006 is a plain Jane but the good thing is its my wifes car LOL.

Dont overlook the Jetta TDI - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Impressive Car! - January 6 - 6:40 pmIve driven a TDI for the past three years and have loved the reliability, long maintence intervals, and efficiency of this engine. I traded my Beetle TDI in for the New 06 Jetta TDI. So far, I have loved the experience. This new design is much improved! Its not whisper quiet (much improved though)...but i can say its a night and day difference when comparing with the Beetle.

Build It and they Will Buy! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Paul in Arizona - January 4 - 10:26 pmOur 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI is our first Volkswagen. The turbodiesel engine gets 47 mpg in combined city / highway driving. It has a very quiet ride, excellent handling, excellent stereo, excellent air conditioning, and is a blast to drive. The seats are a little hard though for long trips. It has a huge trunk, very quiet motor, minimal maintenance, and its service manual is available on CD-ROM. Why doesnt everyone drive one of these?

Electrical Problems Galore - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By JettaGirl06 - December 25 - 6:33 amLove the car and its great mileage, but the electrical problems are horrific. Would never keep it past the warranty. Wipers jump when turned off, blew out two cell phone adaptors, one head light stays on sometimes after engine turned off. There are annoying rattles. A screw fell off of the door panel. The batteries in the key chains last about four months. One tire blew out (could have hit something, but not sure). Radio has poor reception. But love the engine, the really clean smell (does this thing have an ionizer?), the fuel mileage is above stated once broken in.
