For 2001, improved cloth and velour interior materials come standard in the GL and GLS trim. Side curtain airbags that offer head protection for front and rear passengers are introduced this year, and steering wheel controls for the audio and cruise systems are available on GLS/GLX trim models. Optional 17-inch wheels and a sport suspension can be had on GLX models and GLS models with the 1.8T or VR6 engine. The Wolfsburg Edition returns as a limited-edition model in early 2001 -- standard features include sport suspension, bolstered sport seats and 16-inch BBS wheels. All models get redesigned cupholders and a trunk entrapment release button. A wagon arrives in the spring of 2001.

By Ray Smith - December 5 - 2:00 amPerhaps Im in the minority here; but, I just love this car. Its a hoot to drive, safe as can be and has great asthetic lines. The VR6 is one peppy little engine with plenty of torque. Its mated to a 5speed manual in my case. Some times wish I had the automatic while stuck in the DC beltway traffic. There are also lots of nice little things you can do to personalize the car. I.e. Its big in the tuner world.

By Alianza97 - December 5 - 2:00 amI bought this car in January of 2001, brand new! It has the sport suspension, monsoon sound system, 5 speed, 16 inch BBS rims, recaro seats, and sunroof! IT handles like a DREAM! Its fast, fun, and very reliable! My only problem with it was the windows, but apparently ALL VWs had that problem, and it was fixed! Service was ok at the dealer i bought it at, but EXCELLENT at The Imported Car Store in Melbourne! NO mechanical problems or electrical problems! nothing what so ever! i have 26k miles on it now! and it still runs strong! the gas mileage is good and i would highly reccommend one for anyone looking for a car of this type! it is FAST

The real review on a jetta - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By jarren1 - November 21 - 6:44 pmGermans use nothing but quality when it comes to their cars. VW are a well designed machine you have to do regular maintenance. I had my jetta for well over a year and a half No problems. I even went to basic and ait, the car sat for 8 mnths. got back jumped the battery and she was still in good condition. Oh and when it come to quality. They took the time have the mirrors self adjust when u put the car in reverse, a safe fail feature on ur windows if anything obstucts the window from going up. Not to mention i got stuck in the snow and no choce but to floor it at over 8,000 rpms for over 5 mins to get free. It makes me mad when someone talks down on a perfectly good car. The jetta is a Go.

Dont Buy One! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By BWare - November 20 - 1:46 amI admired the looks of the Jetta for a long time and knew this was the car for me. I bought it with 15,00 miles in 2001. When I drove the 5 speed, I was thrilled with its zip and handling. Never had a more fun car to drive. However, this car has cost me more money to maintain than ANY I have ever owned. Replacement of coils, light and electrical probs, the list is a long one. I will never own another Volkswagon. I am going back to buy another reliable, if a bit boring, Honda-which I had before and which cost me almost nothing to maintain and never broke down.

Love it! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By PMeyer - November 12 - 2:00 amI had a 97 Jetta before purchasing my 01 Woflsburg in March of 03. I love it! I bought it with 20,000 miles on it....Only problem I had is that the senor for the hazard lights/turn signals had to be replaced at 22,000 miles...the clutch needs to be lubricated once in a while because of it squeeking. Other than that, Ive had no problems (keeping my fingers crossed)

If you are looking for a Good car with classic lines, that you will continue to love even when things dont always go perfectly, then the VR6 is a great choice. The car rides well on the highway and well paved secondary roads..on choppy roads at low speed it can be a little unconfortable. High Speed handling and peformance 220 klm is exceptional, the sweet spot is 120 mph.. The passing power really surprises many V8 american cars i.e

By dubvhill - October 31 - 2:46 amI bought this car used and heard nothing but good things about VWs. I thought i was getting a dependable car that would last a long time. I was wrong, but must say it hasnt died completely. About a year into my purchase the check engine light came on. Being a poor college student, making it on his own, didnt have money to fix right away. Long story short 4years $7k in and the check engine light is still on. Making money now to fix, but tired of the circling fuel system of death. I am waiting for this car to die to buy a new car. My luck will be this car goes forever with the check engine light on. At the end of the year I will donate to train fire fighters, so the misery will die.

MOST UNRELIABLE CAR IN THE WORLD! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By Karla E. - October 17 - 10:00 amEver since I got it at 0 milage, I have had mechanical problems. At 500 miles, cruise control went out. At 22000 miles, started getting valves replaced, hoses replaced, and many other parts replaced. Not to mention that every 2000-3000 miles, Ive had to take it to the dealership to get all of this fixed because its always a new malfunction in the engin. At 25000 I got stranded out of town in the middle of now where. My car would just not turn on.

By ajkula - October 17 - 2:00 amJust got rid of my 2001GL.What I am going to miss in a Odyssey I traded it in for: -absolutely superb handling, braking and style,excellent fuel economy, and its "ugly duckling in the mood" charm. what I am not going to miss: -absolutely horrible auto transmission (get a stick by all means),misting in all and any type of weather,rear seat passengers complaining about lack of comfort, troubles with alarm system.
