Overview & Reviews
Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

Solid, fun, different. - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Fahrenvergnügen - June 7 - 6:26 pmIve had the Jetta for 3 years and am very satisfied. Its a good sized vehicle for me and the type of driving I do: trips around town, sometimes with people and things, and the occasional road trip. After 48K miles, Im hard pressed to find any faults at all. Its reliable, fun & sensible, but not boring and bland like the Asian competition. The 5spd and 2.5 motor have plenty of torque to compete off the line if you are a skilled rower. The interior build quality is Teutonic solid, ergonomically correct for the driver. Pax might find it a bit "stiff" (mine have, but I dont care, because Im having fun driving). Looking forward to at least 100K unless I upgrade to an Audi before then.

before you buy - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By thatguy33 - May 9 - 4:25 amBought my 06 in the summer of 07 with 200 miles on it. I just rolled over 142,000 but it has been at a hefty price. If you plan to buy a VW, be prepared to go to the dealer for everything, because everything is specialized and expensive. (my uncle is a mechanic and he wouldnt even change the brakes for me). Only reason I still have this car is because Im so upside down in it...

Reverse problem - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Colleen Carney - May 1 - 2:23 pmI purchased this car today and everything was fine until I tried to get it in reverse. My daughter and I drive manual transmissions, and have never had any trouble until this one. I learned from our good friend Barry that you push down on the gear shift to get it in reverse! I was ready to take the car back to the dealer tomorrow!

Excellent Daily Driver - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Joshua - April 27 - 5:26 pmMy 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 is a great daily driver. It has lots of features like the satellite radio, navigation, etc. The leather is improved bigtime as well as interior design, with a quality you only see in higher priced luxury cars. The handling has improved 110% from the previous model. The only quark is to see more of the traditional "German" design to come back. Other than that its a great car!

Spewing thick blast exhaust smoke - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By PR - April 14 - 8:26 pmStarted before warranty but thought it was typical of diesels. Past warranty real problem of excessive smoke while accelerating and what felt like clutch slipping so that the car would almost not move, very dangerous when departing from stopped position & left turning. Nobody knows anything but it will be thousands to TRY & fix. Very disappointed.

Best car to own - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By ToddFoxx - April 6 - 12:13 amThis is the best car to buy if you are considering the hybrids. The Jetta TDI gives the preformance you need for every day driving and fuel economy that doesnt kill the pocket. It is a great value thats fun to drive has all the luxury feel and quality of a BMW.

I love this car! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By dlaporte1 - April 5 - 3:06 pmWe bought this car new in 2006 and now have 211,000 miles on it. Weve replaced the timing belt twice and had 3 wheel bearings replaced. We recently replaced the original battery and the brakes have only been replaced once. Yeah, the rubber has worn off the radio buttons, but thats just cosmetic, who cares? I change the oil every 5,000 miles religiously and it doesnt leak or burn oil. Its been a great car! Were contemplating replacing the wheels because theyre getting beat up - again cosmetic.

Cant beat the mileage - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By richoxfordblue - April 3 - 6:43 amThis is one great car to drive. VW did a nice job blending style and performance. My first tank got 43.2 MPG. The car has a solid ride that is great on back roads. Everyone has commented how quiet it runs for a diesel. On the highway you cant tell its a diesel. Its acceleration is better then you would expect for a 100 HP engine; the torque on the engine really shows when getting onto the highway, you can blend into traffic with no problem. Some people have mentioned that this car has a poor stereo, but I find that mine is fine. It sounds better as you crank it up. It is a little difficult to see to the side and back with the large pillars designed for safety.
