Overview & Reviews
Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

Fun but not the best quality - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Superdad - August 18 - 2:26 pmFun to drive bought from my brother with 47k and now have 97k. To date Im on my 2nd clutch and a new transmission. It died in the driveway once and If I had not bough an extended warranty at 49k -100k, I would be out $3k instead of $1800.00 for the extra insurance. I hope this car would go 250k like my toyota, nissan and honda. Not as tough as the Japanese stuff but more sporting.

Constant Repairs In A Pretty Package - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By tmalone - August 5 - 3:33 pmFor the cost of my 2006 TDI I could and should have bought a lightly used BMW, Acura or Lexus. The amount of time its spent in the shop has more than eclipsed the gas mileage savings Id intended by going diesel. Buyer beware: emissions warnings, glow plug issues, service and recalls await! Regular maintenance oil changes are astronomical $$ and good luck trying to perform any maintenance yourself. The 2006 TDI Jetta is a good-looking, well appointed and fun car to drive. Just make sure you live close to the dealerships service department. Sorry VW, Ill never buy another.

2006 TDI practical review - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Jay - August 3 - 4:03 amI got this car for the great gas mileage, but was blown away by the features. I am getting real world mileage (50% Highway and 50% rural 45 mph stop and go) of 41 mpg. Its acceleration is snappy and fun to drive. The interior ergonomics blew me away. It has the perfect instrumentation, the blue / red displays stand out. I like the little details, like how all 4 window controls can be automatically raised or lowered with one click vs. just the drivers side window. Locking the windows enables the driver control over all windows but locking out the passengers. The daytime running lights extinguish when the parking brake is engaged and the motor running. The radio display that shows all of the channels over the buttons...it goes on and on.

"...Not worth it." - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By hasenpfeffer - July 26 - 3:17 amWhat ever happened to German engineering? This VW Jetta fell apart at 200 K. With a car payment still on the vehicle, Ive had to abandon it, a worthless husk. Mechanics Ive consulted since have also spontaneously offered their contempt of this vehicle. Its not just that the time chain needed repairs as the kilometers go on. Its the whole spread of sudden, systemic mechanical failures -- The waterpump, fans, electrical system, bearings.... I was told at the dealership in a whisper from the guy at the counter: "Dont do what were recommending. Its not worth it." Hence the title. Being a budget minded guy, Id usually be upset by this. I guess I am. Lifes too short. Buy a Focus.

A wonderful car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By ylingf - July 19 - 11:13 pmI test drove the Lexus IS 250, Toyota Camry V6, Honda Accord V6, Mazda3, Chevy Impala SS, Subaru Legacy 2.5GT, Acura TL, Infiniti G35 and a few others, only to fall in love with the Jetta within 5 minutes of the test drive. The Jetta 2.0T represents a wonderful combination of ride, handling, power, and fuel economy. The build quality/material are on par with many luxury vehicles. The interior is tastefully designed with great ergonomics. The engine has very good pickup, especially in 3rd and 4th gear, and it feels like it is gaining more power after the 1st and second oil change. The powerful brakes saved my day a few time already.

Not so great - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Gretchen - July 17 - 8:36 pmThis car was great for the first 2 years of ownership. Throughout the third year, I have had nothing but problems: 2 oil leaks, 1 coolent leak, brakes had to be replaced, and I have had to have the ignition rebuilt twice. Luckily it is still under warranty but this car has turned into more of a hassle than an enjoyment.

Dissappointment - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By johnson - July 15 - 5:33 amThis car has been a disappointment from the day of purchase when the dealer left the oil cap off. It has been to the dealership three times due to a terrible vibration through the steering wheel when traveling slowly. They say it is within reasonable limits of the car. It is trash, and I cant wait to trade it in on the new Toyota RAV4 when it is released!

Honeymoon period gone? - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By tpas - July 5 - 6:40 pmPls. Dont get me wrong. I still love my gli o6. Awesome car, lots of fun to ride and drive. This is the best car Ive driven for its price. But they say you cannot have everything. Last a/c broke down. I was disappointed but not panicking. Thank god I still have warranty on it. Family motors of Bakersfield was awesome. You guys are the best. They help me out from start till a/c was working again. I was back on the road before sunset. Moral lesson= i will try to get extended warranty.

Best car Ive owned - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By scirocco62 - June 19 - 6:10 pmIve my Jetta for over 2 years and I will be sorry to see it go when my lease ends. Although it looks too much like a Toyota once you get behind the wheel you know its a VW. I love the MP3 CD player and the ice cold a/c in the summer and the heated mirrors and quick heat in the winter. The car is an absolute blast to drive and my dealer is great only had 1 problem with the brakes and they took care of immediately. I will certainly lease another. one
