This Year's Model Updates:

Volkswagen eliminates the GLX trim level for wagons -- this means that those who prefer the VR6 engine to the 1.8T engine will have to stick with the sedan. As a consolation, GLS wagons equipped with the 1.8T are eligible for a premium package, which bundles traditional GLX content like power seats, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, wood interior trim and a trip computer. Additionally, VW has made the 1.8T available on both the GL sedan and wagon. GLs now have power windows and mirrors, cruise control and a CD player, while the GLS gets a standard sunroof and alloy wheels. All Jettas are available with stability control (ESP), heated seats and the Monsoon sound system. Other changes include a ULEV rating for the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, redesigned cupholders and backlit buttons on the standard stereo head unit.

Pros:
  • Powerful 1.8T and VR6 engines, fuel-efficient TDI powerplant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard features, solid build quality.
Cons:
  • More expensive than most small sedans and wagons, tight rear-seat legroom.

My jetta has served me well but have had a couple little issues with it...Whats up with the noise while the car is being turned???Need to get it into the shop...and what about it being really loud at 75mph and up...its screaming for a 6th gear. But the Car is fun and lots of compliments...especially abuot the dash and outisde appearance. I do love the car but my eyes are turning towards that 2003 Toyota 4 Runner

This car has far exceeded my expectations....Downgrading from an 01 Jetta glx V6, I was expecting to be a bit disappointed. Not So! Although I do miss my heated leather bun warmers!

Had the car for 2 1/2 years. Good runner, fun to drive. Had a coil go bad at 30k miles that was replaced under warranty. No other mechanical issues.

I got my 2003 Jetta as a three year lease and just switched to a purchase since the car is great. Its great low end torque coupled with the 1.8T turbo engine make the car a great performance machine. The 5-speed manual transmission is a must. I got the car with the sport package upgrade of 17" wheels and a firmer suspension. It could use a rear sway bar but it can take twistys confidently. While the back seat is snug the trunk is enormous and with the seats folded down perfectly flat the car can haul a lot of stuff. The cloth seats are a lint magnet, but all the little upscale Audi-esque touches make this car feel very sophiticated. Its gas mileafe is good for a turbo, I get around 25~30 mpg with mixed driving.

What a great car! The power and pick up are unbelievable. A very smooth ride for a smaller car. The interior lights top it all off. I also love the heated cloth seats.

Bought 2003 Jetta GLS on 3/2/03. 3 no starts due to defective original battery. Replaced battery in May. CD player reads "disk error" & fails to operate, the car haphazardly lurches when shifting from "reverse" to "drive", & chrome piece on parking brake has come loose resulting in a constant "chattering" sound. Fuel economy is lackluster. Switch to the fuel filler cap SNAPPED off and broke. Couldn’t gas up car. I should have bought another Honda Civic!!
