This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Engine Issues - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought this car because of its great looks and cheap price tag; however, all I have faced is headaches. I am currently going in for the fourth time since my purchase for engine, exhaust, and electrical problems. One of the times there had been a recall through VW, and I was never notified.

  • Economical, and a pleasure to drive - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

The Jetta TDI delivers excellent mileage. Despite a tendency to be somewhat "lead footed," I have been averaging 38 mpg overall in stop-and- go city traffic and high-speed interstate driving. Furthermore, the Jetta is fun to drive. It handles like a sports car, and the TDI engine emits a deep-throated growl when you put the "pedal to the metal."

  • NEVER again - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I had nothing but trouble with this car. I actually feel badly for the person who bought it after I traded it in.We were a VW family but that has come to an end. 64000 miles in 6 years and the motor was blowing black smoke. Always changed the oil, replaced several major parts. VW didnt care at all-called them and no resolve. Do no buy this car! Junk-wagon. Back to being a Ford family.

  • VW work horse.. 2006 Jetta 2.5 - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

We live in the high country with lots of corners, steep grades, very rough roads and narrow roads. But we end up on the highway to go shopping some 50 to 100 miles away and have to climb over high mountian passes to get there on I- 5 (Mt. Shasta, Siskiyou area of California.) Our Jetta works the steep grades with little effort.. Will pull out and pass most cars on the long pulls. The ride is far better than the others in its class (Corolla, Civic). Making long trips a non-event. The 5-cyl. engine is happy at most any RPM. Making shifting kind of a pick a gear and forget it thing. It is nothing like other cars we have had that need to be in a given gear to go anywere.

  • Problems.... - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I am currently trying to sell my Jetta now that the transmission has gone out and will cost $3,000 to replace. In addition to the transmission my trunk never closes the first time around, I avoid using it just so that I dont have to attempt closing it 50 times before it clicks. The first day of a new job, the key would not fit in the ignition. I had to have a tow truck come down and the dealership said I might needed to replace the ignition. The interior radio and window buttons have bubbeled and peeled, and as of today five of my six CDs are stuck in the CD player. I am really disapointed and will most likely get a horrible return on what I thought was a great investment.

  • New Jetta - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I just bought a new Jetta TDI automatic. It only has 300 miles so far but we like it. It is fun to drive, kind of like a European sports car. It has guts, too.

  • Audi for VW price - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This car is incredible. A true sleeper, the turbo motor responds well to simple mods (intake, downpipe, tune) but has plenty of power stock. The 6-spd is one of the best Ive rowed thru. The interior just oozes luxury like a high-end Audi. The steering feel (and the wheel) is phenomenal. Brakes are great. The handling is the best- fling this family sedan into a corner and it will throw the apex into a headlock, its incredible. Comes standard with all the luxury options but you cant option extra like phone Bluetooth, pwr seats, etc. Still an awesome deal and a true sleeper!

  • Third VW, this time TDI! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This is my third Volkswagen. My first a 1971 Super Bettle, my second a 1997 Jetta that I drove for 147K and 10 days ago a North See Green 2006 Jetta TDI. I am impressed and happy with all the changes, large and small that this vehicle has undergone. Impressive. It is spacier that my old one, it rides like a jewel and you must watch yourself from not speeding since it feels like you are going slow but you are flying. My stick shift TDI is giving me great mileage too and diesel is cheaper than gas. I could not be happier. The car is eye catcher, in fact wherever I go people want to see it, they peek in or they ask about it. GO the test drive it. I love it, only neg: keeping it clean.

  • 3rd TDI, first awful TDI - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I traded a 2003 TDI sedan for this sedan ~ what a mistake! 1. just refused to turn over randomly. dealer response ~ too bad. 2. steering wheel deteriorated, peeling and gummy. dealer response ~ buy a cover.... too expensive to replace and may repeat problem. 3. Buttons peeled. First the buttons "paint" bubbled then began falling off. Theyre half white now; even on ones i have never used. dealer response ~ We have fixed that problem 4. Headliner began separating at all the rear impact bag locations, now it dangles from the roof. dealer response ~ We have fixed that problem. 5. MPG worse than my 03 or my sons 04 wagon.
