Overview & Reviews
For 2001, improved cloth and velour interior materials come standard in the GL and GLS trim. Side curtain airbags that offer head protection for front and rear passengers are introduced this year, and steering wheel controls for the audio and cruise systems are available on GLS/GLX trim models. Optional 17-inch wheels and a sport suspension can be had on GLX models and GLS models with the 1.8T or VR6 engine. The Wolfsburg Edition returns as a limited-edition model in early 2001 -- standard features include sport suspension, bolstered sport seats and 16-inch BBS wheels. All models get redesigned cupholders and a trunk entrapment release button. A wagon arrives in the spring of 2001.
- Solid build quality, rich interior materials, loads of features, available turbo and V6 engines.
- Cookie-cutter Euro-copy sheet metal, bigger standard-features list means bigger base price.

Hate it! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By megan_724 - February 2 - 7:40 pmNever will I buy a VW again. Ive had to replace the brake sensor twice, all spark plugs, and numerous other "small" repairs that total thousands of dollars. My car dies when I am driving down the road, with no explanation. The interior fabric is crap. The bumper falls off for NO reason. I would never recommend a VW, even to my worst enemy. Whatever you do, buy a Honda or Nissan.

Dont Buy This Car !!!! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By tf4543 - January 31 - 10:00 amThis car has been nothing but problems since it was purchased. There are MAJOR problems (transmission, coil packs, etc) that Volkswagen refuses to address. VW has no regard for its customers.

A Quality Car @ A Good Price - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By jpc - January 31 - 10:00 amThis is my 2nd Jetta (91 Jetta - 11 years 200k miles) and the evolution of the vehicle has been impressive. Excellent quality and attention to detail throughout. The 2.0 is not a racehorse but delivers excellent economy and exceptional reliability. If you want speed get the 1.8. The handling, braking, and overall driver experience are a pleasure to experience. Only mystery has been 2 occurrences of Check Engine Light and recall for power windows. Very Pleased overall.

Paid off early & driving it till it dies - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By saarij - January 20 - 6:53 amThis was my first "new car." Beyond paying too much for it, the car eats oil on the order of 1qt every 3- 4k. "Its designed that way." is the best description multiple VW dealerships around the country say, and is echoed by the national reps even after putting synthetic in it from day one at the recommended intervals (10k). I add & monitor it every 3-4 times I fill up. After 150k it has a unique "drone" at the 3800 RPM. My repairs have been the standard wear items (brakes, timing belt, CV boot). The car requires unique VW tools to do some of the most basic jobs (like rear brakes). Several recall items - mostly electrical. Insurance and repairs are typically higher for VWs.

Beautiful lemon - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By Bankerella - December 7 - 2:00 amTalk about your love/hate relationships. Ive never had so much fun driving something so economical. However, the overwhelming amount of problems with my car is forcing me to sell it at 3 years/37,000 miles. My turbo has blown, and that is the last straw.

Wow! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By Brian - October 27 - 2:43 amThis is a tight handling little car. No rattles going over bumps and very quiet at 70 mph. I love the room the car has especially with the rear seats folded. Totally reliabe with gas mpg that rivaled my old Neon. Im getting around 27 mpg in town! What a cheap car to own. Ive only had it for a month, but I can already say it is the best car I have ever owned. I am now a VW snob for the rest of my life!

My best buy ever - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By Springbok - October 17 - 10:00 amI have owned VWs for the past 20 years. This latest Jetta TDi has been my best buy ever. VW have excelled with this model. Fuel consumption has exceeded VW claim. I get 45-49 mpg around town and 51-52 mpg on the highway.

Caries my family, lets me have fun too! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By Sir Maestro - October 8 - 4:46 amBought my Jetta GLS Wolfsburg new in 2001, and have loved it since day one. The standard hp/torque of 150/155 is adequate for spirited driving, and can easily be boosted to 210/230 with chip upgrades. the standard sports seats and suspension are good improvements over the GLS stock equipment. It is not one of those Japanese tuner cars, but it can be easily tuned and styled - many aftermarket suppliers are available. I have experienced no significant reliability issues - dealer loyalty pays off with some items replaced at no charge. The check engine light goes on/off and the dealer cannot always locate the source/trouble. I love the exterior styling, and everything inside feels nice to the touch and controls are located exactly where they should be.
