Overview & Reviews
For 2004, all Jetta models get an updated look, optional telematics and a new and more powerful 1.9-liter TDI engine (GL and GLS models only). The 2.0-liter engine is now PZEV-rated, and the GLX trim is no longer available. Also note that you can no longer get the 1.8T engine in GL trim. Besides that, the GLI sedan sports new 17-inch alloy wheels and the Cold Weather Package items (heated seats and washer nozzles) as standard, while the GLS features a standard Monsoon stereo. The wagons get a revised instrument cluster late in the model year, and the sedans get new metallic trim rings around the gauges.
- Powerful 1.8T and VR6 engines, fuel-efficient TDI power plant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard safety features, solid build quality.
- More expensive than most small sedans and wagons, tight rear-seat legroom, weak base four-cylinder.

Some issues, but I still love my Jetta! - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Michele - September 16 - 8:03 amI bought my Jetta brand new and have not looked back since! Its been the best car Ive ever owned. Theres nothing quite like quality german engineering! I have had some small issues though, the seat heaters had a recall, brake light switch had a recall, check engine light came on in the first 12,000 miles due to a faulty sensor, but overall I am very please. Most recently I had to take the car in for a broken link on the sway bar which was covered under warranty. Despite these issues I still love my Jetta!

By Daisy - August 20 - 8:53 amOnce I laid eyes on this babe I knew I had to get one. I originally wanted the Platinum Grey one but settled for the Blue Lagoon. Its fun to drive and the cupholders actually dont cover the CD player this time!

great deal, practical car - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By slcastle - August 11 - 2:00 amI love this car! I thought it would be too small for my 6-5" husband, along with our 2 year old twin toddlers, but we actually do fit just fine - for it to be a second car. The car is a great deal because of the diesel engine, once we saw it we were hooked - we will be saving over $150 a month with the incredible gas mileage. The safety of the 6 air bags is unbeatable - and not even offered in other sedans of comparable price. The interior is sleek and well-made. We looked at everything - but Volkswagen won mainly for crash test ratings, retaining its value (60% after 5 years!), and gas mileage, making it a practical car.

2004 Jetta GLI VR6 "Pocket Rocket" - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By txbillsfan - July 25 - 10:00 amI call it my "Pocket Rocket" because its the smallest car I have ever owned and one of the fastest. Its fun to drive, comfortable, well built, and not too hard on the eyes. The chrome moldings and the alloy wheels really dress it up. It corners like a dream with almost no roll and the 6 speed is the easiest manual tranny I have ever used. Like the commercial says, "Drive it youll get it."

2004 GLI VR6 - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Debbie - June 26 - 9:56 amThe GLI VR6 is very comfortable. My car is loaded, leather and all and is so much fun to drive. The 6sp manual shift is very smooth and has great acceleration. Its a pretty peppy car for a 200 hp. Ive owned several BMWs (540, a 3 BMW 330) and I would say the fun factor is close to a Bimmer but at 1/3 the cost. Only drawback is the gas mileage is so-so for a 6sp. I was expecting to get about 28-33 mpg but I avg around 25 mpg. My 330i (6sp) avg around 28 so I was expecting the VW to be equal if not better.

GR8 RIDE - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By REISER - June 23 - 2:00 amThis is a great car for a tight budget. The speed and performace combined with the leather interior make this a great car. For the price the american cars in this range couldnt even touch this car. I researched many cars before purchasing the jetta, and this is by far the most car for the money.
