This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

This car seems to have the same issues as other cars. I bought it new with a grand total of three miles on it. 60,000 miles later the airbag light is on and a coolant temperature sensor has failed. Dont know about the airbag light but the temperature sensor is about $20 from NAPA. The fuel economy is excellent, I average 47 mpg to and from work. I use the cruise control as much as possible and that seems to help. I am not a VW guy and to be honest the car is a little feminine for me but Im long over it. It does use weird oil and oil filters but so far havent had a problem at Jiffy Lubes across the country. I definatly recommend this car, I think its better then most others

  • Why Buy a Hybrid, When... - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

VW has the answer already. Its the TDI diesel. Man, this engine is great. It is low on power in the specs, but it feels much better with the torque from the turbo diesel. Its fuel mileage is incredible. The EPA estimates are way off. I can get in the 50s on highway driving, and in city stop and go I am getting at 38-42 mpg on avg. tThis is the best car for the money out there hands down. Since BMW wont bring over their diesel version to the USA. Until then its VW.

  • Major TDI Engine Repairs...Cam failures - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Known issue on TDI owner club - cam shaft and lifters fail (not hardened correctly)... BRM Engine code 1.9L Costs to repair was $2000. Prevention: have timing belt replacement, at same time ask for mechanic to assess the valve lifters (followers)... for scarring, pitting and worse yet total failure! Will lose power, will trip all sorts of codes Check engine, progresses to worse! Sorry VW does not offer any ear to this problem.. I am going to japanese engines! Never again for me. If it happens report it to NHTSA ODI (google it). best wishes.....

  • Practical, Comfortable but not Spacious - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

We bought this car for my wife. She uses it everyday and we use it on long trips. It is comfortable with an excellent, balanced ride. The rear seat is a little cramped but the boot is huge. It is good to drive albeit with excessive clutch play required at idling speeds. The transmission is short and crisp. The steering is precise. It inspires a somewhat erect driving position. The fuel economy we get is 24 mpg, it could be better if VW didnt make this strange choice of a 2.5 5-in-line engine which doesnt really have stellar performance.

  • Suprised - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Traded in a BMW 540i for my 2006 Volkswagen Jetta Value Edition. What a surprise! This car is just as comfortable, has a larger trunk, wonderful sound system, and great looking with 17" wheels. I drove it to AZ from TN and it hanled great in all weather conditions and road conditions. I get an average of 45 mpg.

  • Made for the road - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

My 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is a hoot to drive. My brothers a VW nut going back 20 years. I told him wed never buy one because of the quality problems...but obviously we did. Anyway, he comes down from New Jersey to visit late one Saturday night, wakes up early, cant wait for me so he takes the car out, turns right out of our street onto a country road wheres theres an immediate small rise blocking any long term view. The rise cant be more than 300 yards away. In 3rd when he reachs rise, sees cop dead ahead, looks down shocked to find out hes already doing 90, hits the brakes, but not fast enough, cop pulls him over, turns out hes a VW nut, too, and lets him off. Thats the problem - this car cant resist speed.

  • Best car I have ever had - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Although it does not have quite as much pep as some other similar gas powered size cars, the VW TDI diesel is as fuel efficient as any car I have tried. It gives about twice the gas mileage and to think about it, for a given mileage driven, that makes annual fuel costs half that for gasoline powered cars. Its fairly quiet (once warmed up even more so). I like it, its very safe, and built like a tank and very reliable. What more do you need?

  • Back to Diesel - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This cars power and responsiveness are remarkable. Its styling is classy for small car. Its economy is as advertised. It has unexpected roominess and comfort. VW maxed-out the design of the interior. My first car was VW Beetle and last a BMW, VW has me back.

  • Built for Drivers - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This is the first VW I have owned and I absolutely love it. It is a lot of fun to drive, has a great interior design (especially the leather finish - stitching comparable to a Mercedes), and has great fuel economy. Its standard features, such as leather seats and heated side mirrors, are a real bonus. It has huge trunk space, I had over $650 worth of groceries in there no problem (hey, we were getting ready for Christmas!). The rear passengers love the heat vent that they can control as well as the pull down arm rest that can store magazines or make use of the pop out cup holders. This car is spacious and solid to drive.

  • Get in the Jetta - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought my 06 Jetta in January of 2006 and have had only one problem with it. Early on, the wiring harness went out, but luckily, it was covered under the warranty. Other than that, NOTHING has gone wrong (of course, now that I own it, I may have jinxed myself). It loves ice and snow, stops on a dime, and handles speeds up to 105 without vibration. Love it. Everyone should get one!
