This Year's Model Updates:

A completely redesigned Jetta sedan has arrived as a midyear replacement, but some versions of the previous version are still available. The GLI VR6 version of the old model was dropped from the lineup, while the GLI 1.8T added an automatic transmission to the options list.

Much nicer car than the previous model in every way...fit and finish and quality of materials is second to none..unfortunately, have owned the car for 3 weeks and it has been in the shop 3 times (still in there after 6 days)...the first time was after the first 5 miles...with an undiagnosed problem

Had the car for less than a month. Gas mileage is awesome, lot better than my previous car. Only problem with the new Jettas so far is the rattling of the speakers in the front doors. There is a TBA out, and most dealers know about the problem. After, when the problem is fixed, the sound system sounds awesome.

  • Great car! - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

My overall experience with my first VW is great. I travel for my job which means Im in my car for 3-5 hours everyday. Being 62", the electric leather seats with memory is a wonderful feature and very comfortable. The pickup and fuel economy mix is perfect as I like to take the corners quick and use the cruise control for the highways. Good looks and solid VW engineering. Purchased in Dec 08 and this review written in Sept 09 its been great.

  • Whats with all the Noises? - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Overall I love my new Jetta, but have found there are some major problems with noise. First of all the wind noise when you get to 45 mph or over is horrible. Luckily I have the XM radio to drown out the noise but now I am hearing a clicking noise from the dash area? This coupled with the horrible noise at start up has me wishing I had waited another year. People look at me when I start the car up and have said "is something grinding in there?" I am disappointed considering how much I paid for a new car!

  • A Few Kinks, but I Love It! - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

I traded my Jeep because of gas prices and love this Jetta. I had done earlier research on the Jetta back in late 90s and was not impressed but this year was a completley different car. I love the ride until you have to floor it, would be nice to have a little more pick up and go when needed. I have a driver side sterio speaker issue that I need to fix, the car does start up kinda loud but then it goes away and runs smoothly. The trunk space is GREAT and the numerous other german features are wonderful and I enjoy! I have hit 45-50 miles to the gallon driving wisely, or maybe I just got a good engine.

Very satisfied and wild on the car. Almost like sports luxury when you drive it. Needs a bit more performance but has alot of potential and style.

  • Love my Jetta - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

I have now owned my Jetta for over a year now and have absolutely loved every single minute of owning it AND driving it! I waiting until the body style changed in 2005 to purchase the Jetta since I felt the other style was a little small. The handling is wonderful, the ride is smooth, and I love all of the little extras the VW has put in the car to play with!

  • Best car ever - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

I am used to driving trucks that get 10-13 mpg. This is a whole lot better then that of course. What else can you ask for? Its a sports car with all the luxury you need. Sunroof, great sound system, and all the electonics you need. I am 511 and 245 lbs and the recaro racing seats fit me just fine. Theres nothing to complain about the car. I never knew you can go so fast around corners until this car. The power is there when you need it with or without the typtronic. I never would have bought a VW let alone a Jetta but am in love with this car. Basically everything you need at a pretty cheap price only if you go through Edmunds.

I bought my 2005 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 new in September. Since then, it has been in the shop for 37 days for cooling problems. I am getting rid of it, it cant be fixed. I really do love the car its a shame.

  • GLI - 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

My 2005 VW GLI was an absolute blast to drive, when it drove. The clutch and flywheel exploded(yes exploded) at 30,000 miles leaving me stranded. A clutch and flywheel should last longer then that, 100k maybe. I ended up trading it in on a Toyota. VW are engineered with driving performance in mind but are poorly built. If your willing to deal with the expensive upkeep then this is an excellent car. But if you want reliability go with something from japan. The reliability track record of VW will prevent me from buying another.
