Overview & Reviews
For 2004, all Jetta models get an updated look, optional telematics and a new and more powerful 1.9-liter TDI engine (GL and GLS models only). The 2.0-liter engine is now PZEV-rated, and the GLX trim is no longer available. Also note that you can no longer get the 1.8T engine in GL trim. Besides that, the GLI sedan sports new 17-inch alloy wheels and the Cold Weather Package items (heated seats and washer nozzles) as standard, while the GLS features a standard Monsoon stereo. The wagons get a revised instrument cluster late in the model year, and the sedans get new metallic trim rings around the gauges.
- Powerful 1.8T and VR6 engines, fuel-efficient TDI power plant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard safety features, solid build quality.
- More expensive than most small sedans and wagons, tight rear-seat legroom, weak base four-cylinder.

This car saved my life! - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Faina S - November 14 - 2:36 amI was in a snow / ice storm and as I was heading towards an underpass I lost control and went into both sides of the underpass damaging the car but had no serious injuries, the car stayed in pretty good shape so I am happy to have a repeat purchase from this company.

2004 Jetta 1.8 Wagan - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Patricia Flaherty - November 13 - 10:00 amI have only had this vehicle for two months but I love it. Very easy to drive, pickup is outstanding. ABS standard breaking is also very good. Cargo space is also outstanding. Overall, I think this car is an outstanding bargin for safety, good cargo space and fun to drive. Not to many family wagons are also fun to drive but the Jetta 1.8 Wagon fits that bill as well for in my case under 20,000

Solid Ride in a Small Package - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By V-Dub - October 1 - 2:00 pmWe needed a new car for under $19000. Although more expensive than other cars its size - the solid construction and road manners were unmatched for the price. The 1.8 Turbo is a blast providing more that adequate power and is far superior to the standard 2.0 motor. Front seats get an A+ for comfort keeping me very happy for 3 hour runs. Seating in the rear is snug. Highway gas mileage is 27 - 29, only average for the class. Quality of interior and exterior materials seems excellent for class of vehicle.

Happy Dieseler - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By sprouty - September 28 - 12:26 amWeve had our 2004 GL TDI auto (Tiptronic) wagon for 4 months and 7K miles. Love it! This car replaces a 2001 GLX VR6, and I dont miss the added power of the V6 that much. The TDI is wonderful--punchy at all speeds, with a great surge of turbo power always available. Gave up some creature comforts in going to the GL, but the seats are still great and the car still has good featutes. Tons of cargo room, and a great ride for long trips. We regularly average 40-42 MPG in mixed driving. A wonderful car! Our 2nd Jetta and weve been happy with both.

Marvelous Machine - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By yorams - September 5 - 2:00 amThis car is a dream!!!! Its a 1.8 Turbo with 5 speed Tiptronic tranny. The 1.8 Turbo feels like a V-6. The only options I got were leather seats and ESP (Electronic Stabilization Program)

So far, So good - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Reno to CA driver - August 30 - 2:00 amIve had the car for about two months so far, so good. I have to cover Northern California and Northern Nevada with round trips in the 800 mile range. So far averaging 40-42 mpg with the automatic and good driver ride comfort. With the cost of gasoline going over $2.00 per gallon, I glad to have a diesel. The Monsoon audio is the best Ive heard from a factory install.
