Overview & Reviews
Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

Great Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By geojadams - November 1 - 4:50 pmDont listen to the editors ratings, whoever they are. I have owned Jaguars, Mercedes, and a Dodge Ram P/U and this is the coolest car that I have owned.

Good so far - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Newbie - October 29 - 4:40 amJust got my 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T two days ago. I will update my review when Ive had it longer. I got a 2.0T with Package 2 for $500 UNDER DEALER INVOICE (just under $26,000). I paid $1,000 down for all fees, title, taxes, tags, including cap cost reduction of about $250 yielding monthly of about $365 for 36 month lease and 12,000 miles per year including 10% DC tax. I was going to get package 3 but there werent any around here that didnt also have navigation; tested navigation didnt seem worth it. I put 5 for reliability and build coz I dont have a basis to judge yet.

My Sixth VW Diesel - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By ensleyf - October 13 - 3:10 pmMy early experience with VW diesels was that they were like driving a transfer truck as far as acceleration goes. The 2006 outperforms my 1998 TDI noticeably. In my first diesel VW, a 1977 Rabbit, I got 47 MPG on a trip when it was nearly new. It had no power options or air conditioning. It averaged about 40 MPG in combination driving. The 2006 does slightly better than that even when I drive 75 - 85 miles per hour on the interstate. The top speed of the 1977 Rabbit was 75 MPH but I have not reached top speed in the 2006 TDI although. I reached 90 MPH when I passed a car on the interstate recently. The only negative that I can bring up is that I sometimes brush my head on the doorway entering

I love my GLI - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Masemoto - October 13 - 6:23 amOne test drive an I was sold. This car satisfies me in every way. Its interior space and design are excellent. The car performs flawlessly. The engine roars with power. The car looks sharp. What more could you want. Fuel economy? Try 26 in the city and 31+ on the highway. The value for money is amazing for something which does everything great. I have yet to have any problems with my VDub and would highly recommend it to anyone. Take a test drive and youll see what I am talking about. A+

Best car I have ever owned - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Bill - October 5 - 1:50 pmThis car really is the greatest. It gets extremely great gas mileage. I actually get much better than estimated. I average about 44 mpg, and on a long road trip last month I got 53 mpg. This car is also very comfortable, and fun to drive. The interior is incredible. I will admit that Im not thrilled with the new body style, but overall I wouldnt trade it for anything. Interestingly enough, the dealership I bought it from offered to buy it back from me last month, they cant get enough in stock they wanted me to give it back and buy something else from them. They offered me one heck of a deal too, and I love this car so much I turned them down. This is definitely one car that I will keep for many years.

Love the Jetta - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By CARLO - October 1 - 6:00 amI have really enjoyed my Jetta so far. I have put 500 miles on the car and it drives and handles very well. I previously had a 2005 Nissan Altima, which is a very nice car, but I felt like "I was riding in the car, not driving it." This car is faster than the 250 hp Altima. It was not easy to manuver the Altima in parking lots. The Jetta makes driving fun again. You will enjoy it!

Four Month Review - Still Love It! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Dapper - September 26 - 10:56 pmThe 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is a great car for those who enjoy driving. I bought it after driving a half dozen competitors because it blew them all away. The performance of its 200 hp turbo engine and the tight, yet comfortable suspension are impressive. The engine is extremely quiet but gives a nice growl when the turbo winds up. Its acceleration and handling are smooth and responsive. Ive been getting about 30 mpg so far. I love the interior styling and the quality of materials. Its a bit tight entering and exiting but thats true of any small car. There is quite a bit of wind noise, almost like a vibration, with the windows down. And winter driving is not good. Still, Im having more fun driving than I have for years! Id buy it again.

Amazing Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By GMAN - September 26 - 8:16 pmThis car continues to amaze us with its handling and power. We have 10,000 miles now with no problems at all and we drive this car pretty hard. The overall gas mileage average is 26 miles per gallon which is very good considering the performance and all of the stop and go traffic. This is truly a 4 door sports car that is fun for the family.
