This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Jetta models get an updated look, optional telematics and a new and more powerful 1.9-liter TDI engine (GL and GLS models only). The 2.0-liter engine is now PZEV-rated, and the GLX trim is no longer available. Also note that you can no longer get the 1.8T engine in GL trim. Besides that, the GLI sedan sports new 17-inch alloy wheels and the Cold Weather Package items (heated seats and washer nozzles) as standard, while the GLS features a standard Monsoon stereo. The wagons get a revised instrument cluster late in the model year, and the sedans get new metallic trim rings around the gauges.

Pros:
  • Powerful 1.8T and VR6 engines, fuel-efficient TDI power plant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard safety features, solid build quality.
Cons:
  • More expensive than most small sedans and wagons, tight rear-seat legroom, weak base four-cylinder.

Very broard power band, feels like you are driving a small v-8 engine. Handling is excellent, very tight and road noise free interior. VW has thought of everything on this one and built the quality with it. Shifting is velvet smooth and clunk free on the 5 speed the transmission complements the turbo very well. Love the car.

  • Buy a Jetta! - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

I already owned a 98 Jetta and an 83 Rabbit, so I bought this car for my wife who always wanted one. She said it was love at first site. I cannot get her to shut up about how much she loves the car. She is always bragging about her fuel economy and how the car will run forever (which it will). She said she is going to drive it until the wheels fall off. We got our car with 25,000 miles on it and now have 40,000. We have not had any problems what so ever. I would suggest changing the oil your self to save some money. You can buy entire oil change kits (filter, oil, o- rings and drain plug) for $50 including shipped.

This is my 3rd Jetta and I am an avid fan. It comfortably fits my family of 3 and this car is mainly used for commuting. Great fuel economy. I would purchase another again. Outstanding that most upgraded features in other cars comes standard with this VW such as air, upgraded stereo, power windows/locks, and alarm. Handles very well and pick up is great on the manual.

My VW Jetta is great. I get great gas mileage and love driving the car. It has good pick up and drives great. The one thing I would change about the interior is the color. I have black and it is so HOT in the summer. Other than that, I have no complaints about the car. Volkswagon is wonderful company to deal with. I highly recommend the car to everyone.

  • No kidding - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Bought my Jetta just before the fuel crunch hit. Had been driving a Ford Diesel Excursion (yuk!) First trip with the Jetta averaged 45mpg 3400 mile round trip (five people and car top carrier). Improving steadily since. One recent "all highway cruise control speed limit inflate the tires to maximum inflation" run I got 54 mpg. No kidding! Comfortable and pleasing to be in - we created a mini SUV by adding a seat and seat belt in the rear. Put a aero ski car top carrier for luggage. When will other SUVers figure this out?

This car is so enjoyable to drive and ride in. The comfort is great. I have the turbo diesel and this is truly the best car I have ever had. I am averaging about 45 to 50 mpg. I traded in a Nissan Maxima and the Jetta blows that car off the road. For this car only to have 4 cylinders, there is no problem with the car not having power. I get compliments on it every day.

  • Jetta GLI 1.8T - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Bought my Jetta GLI 1.8T a month ago and I have put on 1500 wonderfully fun miles so far. I absolutely love this car and am thrilled that I decided on it over the others I was considering. I was a bit concerned about VW reliability and post sale treatment by the VW dealership, but after doing a lot of research it appears that all of the bugs that were in this generation (MK4) of Jetta have been worked out. I also felt comfortable that this dealership would continue to treat me well. It appears that VW is making efforts to improve their customer satisfaction ratings. Just do yourself a favor and drive the car, youll understand why I bought one.
