Overview & Reviews
For 2001, improved cloth and velour interior materials come standard in the GL and GLS trim. Side curtain airbags that offer head protection for front and rear passengers are introduced this year, and steering wheel controls for the audio and cruise systems are available on GLS/GLX trim models. Optional 17-inch wheels and a sport suspension can be had on GLX models and GLS models with the 1.8T or VR6 engine. The Wolfsburg Edition returns as a limited-edition model in early 2001 -- standard features include sport suspension, bolstered sport seats and 16-inch BBS wheels. All models get redesigned cupholders and a trunk entrapment release button. A wagon arrives in the spring of 2001.
- Solid build quality, rich interior materials, loads of features, available turbo and V6 engines.

Best Car Ive Ever Owned! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By Brian - March 26 - 2:13 amWhat can I say? I am now forever a loyal VW buyer. This car is absolutely amazing. I have the 2.0 with a 5 speed manual. Plenty of power even when fully loaded. I can set the cruise at 70 with people and gear in the car and pull the Grape Vine without losing speed. Awesome. The torque is also amazing. At 1800 rpm in top gear, it will accelerate. Not bad.

The Jetta is a Blast - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By jeff - December 17 - 4:10 amLet me tell you, all it takes for the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS Wolfsburg is new software and youre making 230 hp. My Jetta is heavily modified and its a blast to drive. Ive pulled on cars that probably thought I didnt stand a chance. With simple bolt-ons this 1.8T is a real contender.

Excellent German-Designed Car - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By J B Books - October 25 - 2:00 amThe Jetta Turbo gas model performs well, has comfortable seating, excellent Monsoon sound system, great sports suspension, and rates the safest of any auto on the Consumer Reports/NHTSA crash tests: 5 star head on and 4 star side crash. The car has been reliable and is a poor mans BMW.

Driver Found - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By notpostal - August 20 - 2:00 amIm right at 21,000 miles on my Wolfsburg 1.8t 5spd and have not had any real problems. My dealer replaced the window stops at my 20k checkup..they had a tech bulletin on to replace them although mine hadnt failed. The car is more comfortable and fun to drive than my Acura. I get 27+mpg in town and 31+ on the highway. This is the first VW Ive owned and the experience has been wonderful. I plan to replace it next year and will get another Jetta 1.8t but I will check out the triptonic auto. The 5 spd is a lot of fun and easy to operate, but at 58 years of age, Im getting a little lazy.

This car will turn you on - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By gettadub734 - July 16 - 3:26 pmI bought the car 6 months ago I love my VW, very fast, good gas mileage unless you use the turbo then the gas goes fast, been very reliable to me only thing is the turn signal on 1 side is out guess thats common, but beautiful car to look at and can throw you back in your seat. Mine has 165,000 and runs like new its unreal, but I run synthetic oil and 93 octane.

TDI was the Best Decision - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By knophop - July 2 - 2:53 pmWe had been looking at Jettas and were trying to decide between the 1.8L Turbo charged gasoline engine and the 1.9L Turbodiesel. The TDI was a much better choice, especially since the engine has proved to be much more reliable than the 1.8L turbo. There is plenty of torque, and the car feels like it has a significantly larger engine. The ride quality is excellent for a car of this size. The fuel economy is also excellent. I prefer the exterior styling to that of the new 2006 Jetta, but that is simply a matter of personal taste. If you are thinking of buying a Volkswagen, ALWAYS consider a turbodiesel. They are by far the most popular engine elsewhere in the world, and are the most reliable.

Outstanding - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By ihristov - May 17 - 10:00 amEverything you can expect from a German car. A bit spartan, but everything is though-out to the minuscule detail. I love it. A fun car to drive. I would recommend it for everyone that likes to drive a little sportish. Excellent handling. In 2 years and 30,000 miles have not had any problems.
