This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Fun to Drive a Atick Again - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

The New Jetta is fun to drive. It handles best at highway speeds. Its handling is very stable. It feels good going fast. The Electronic Stability System saved me from losing control once when I was cut off by another driver changing lanes. I wish people would get out of the fast lane so I could have a ticket to fly.

Pros: - superb fuel economy; beats by far any hybrid - pretty powerfull engine for a 1.9 liter - a lot of extras from dual power seats to leather - roomy inside despite apparences Cons: - feels like a cheap car after 1-2 years - plastiky... - tapistry falls apart in less than 1 year - twice ! - real bad mechanics ( 3 automatic transmissions changed in 4 years ) - at about 68 k miles, need to add oil even between oil changes. - engine start loosing power after 3 years; could not diagnostic the issue even after a computer upgrade; Bottom line, a fun car to drive while it works. When the mechanics and the technicians at the dealership knows you by name when you pull in, is bad...

  • Very competitive, sporty sedan - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Powerful, fuel-efficient engine. This feels like a 6-cylinder, with no turbo lag. Excellent handling and comfortable ride, even with the sport suspension. Comfortable leather seats with good visibility. The interior is roomy with high quality materials (like a entry-level luxury car) and is thoughtfully laid out. 10,000 mile interval between scheduled oil changes (after the first two at 5,000 miles). Initial quality issues include DRLs that were not activated, and a bracket that snapped off the rear cupholder.

  • I will likely kick myself for selling it - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I bought my 06 TDI right off the truck in Dallas in 05. The cars were really hard to get at the time, but I didnt mind going from OKC to Dallas to pick it up. This car was excellent! It had a "cockpit" like an Audi, was a package 2, so it had nearly EVERYTHING VW had to offer - heated leather seats, memory seats, Sirius sat. radio, HUGE trunk, DSG/Tiptronic transmission, power everything (virtually). Fuel economy was not AS good as what I have heard from others, but I was still "breaking" in the engine. Economy steadily increased from 37 mpg to about 42 mpg by the time I traded it in for an 05 Jetta TDI GLS to keep the fuel economy.

  • All ready in shop, after first payment - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

We researched and researched this car and felt like we were making the best decision due to its great gas mileage. I am very disappointed in our car already. We have just made our first payment and the car just broke down on us. We had to call VW roadside assistance to have it towed right from our garage. We were supposed to be given rental car to drive. I was expected to drive one hour from our home without a car to get this rental car. I would wait before buying the 2006 Jetta TDI to see if any more bugs show up in these cars. Also do not buy one if you have to sign a waiver taking away your rights to take the dealer to court. Lemon laws dont last long. There are already buy backs.

  • Horrible....Dont ever buy these - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Nothing but trouble. Have had engine problems forever. The radio emblems even wear off. How pathetic is that. Then, Volkswagen people try to give us the run-around all the time. And the warranty wont even cover it. Worst vehicle and company ive ever been associated with. Period, Never buy a Volkswagen. Ever.

  • I chose an 06 Jetta TDI over the Cadillac CTS - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

My 04 Cadillac CTS was totaled and I chose the Jetta TDI over another CTS. The current model is as large as the 05 Passat. It has plenty of interior room. The trunk is very large and the rear seats fold down. There are many standard features on this car that you would normally have to pay extra for on other cars. The interior materials are of high quality. The diesel engine is relatively quiet. The seats are comfortable with plenty of adjustments. I have Pkg. 1 with the steptronic transmission (very smooth) and leatherette seats which I prefer for carrying dogs. Its handling is very good and it cruises like a dream at 75-80 mph. My first tank of diesel averaged 41 mpg with a 50/50 mix of driving. This is a great car!

  • Im VERY satisfied - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I have been averaging 41 mpg! The car has plenty of power and hugs the road very well. My only real complaint is that the sun visors do not have retractable extenders. When they are pulled over to protect against sunlight coming from the side, they can be very ineffective. We were also told that we did not have the option to purchase programmable buttons for our garage door opener with our model (GL). Since there is also no place to put a handheld door opener, we find this very disappointing.

  • I love my Jetta - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I love my Jetta, its comfortable with lumbar support. I like the simplicity of the style and it has good "get up and go". I have the Value Edition, therfore no fancy wheels. I bought aftermarket wheels and had problems getting the vibration out of the steering wheel. Thanks to an awesome tire dealer we found the Michelin tires where the answer with exact balancing. It took a whole month of back and forth to figure out what the problem was with tires wheels and my steering wheel shaking, but I am very happy now and would buy my Jetta all over again.

  • Avoid at all costs - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I was so excited to buy this car. However, Ive been nothing but dissapointed with it. First and foremost, the cost is much higher than what one would pay for other cars of this caliber. I thought that the additonal price would be justified by the ride. However, this car has been nothing but trouble.
