Optional 17-inch wheels and a sport suspension can be had on GLX models and GLS models with the 1.8T or VR6 engine. The Wolfsburg Edition returns as a limited-edition model in early 2001 -- standard features include sport suspension, bolstered sport seats and 16-inch BBS wheels. Nice Little Car - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By Rick - May 31 - 3:30 pmI bought my 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GL brand new and Im still happy with it. The styling is awesome, materials first rate, and design well above the others. After owning this car and its features and design you get sort of spoiled. I love the struts on the trunk and front hood, daytime lights, how all the buttons light up at night, the auto locks, dual lit vanity mirrors, etc. However, it is as others have said, built in Mexico, so some parts are painted and will peel away after a few years. The paint is the same color as the plastic, so you could always peel all the paint off and be fine. Some things are expensive to fix and youll be in the shop at least once a year. Still, this car has served us well.

Treated Me Right - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By IAHAWK - May 23 - 12:00 amAlmost 65,000 miles and no problems. I must say that this car has treated me right. Im amazed by some of the other negative reviews I read in here. Either they had lemons or just didnt treat their car right. I followed all the recommend maintenance and the car has treated me right for it. As much as I like this car I have out grown it and because I feel that VW has made a huge mistake on the new Jetta, I will not be buying another one. I would recommend this car to anyone that is looking to buy used. Especially the VR6, this is a very solid engine and I know can and will run for many more miles.

Mixed Bag - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By fsf - May 21 - 10:40 amLike a lot of other reviewers, I find my 01 Jetta really fun to drive. It handles very well and has really good pick up. I can zip around the city easily and never worry that it cant handle the demands of city driving. However, durability is a problem. The 3-year, 30,000-mile warranty is a giveaway that VW knows there are issues. During the first two years, I got several notices about recalls. Though I didnt have to pay for the dealership to fix whatever needed to be fixed, it was still a pain having to bring it in and wait around. Since then, I have spent thousands fixing small and big things. Prepare to spend a lot of money on upkeep. For my next car, Im going with a dependable Japanese vehicle.

Fun Car, bad electrical system - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By jss714 - May 18 - 1:13 amI think there are a lot of pros and cons to the car, yes it is a really fun car to drive and looks very sleek and stylish. It has an excellent powertrain warranty, but I have had lots of problems with the electrical system! Which of course started to break after the meager 2-year bumper-to- bumper warranty had expired. The VWs are VERY expensive to repair.

2001 Jetta GLX VR6 - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By Christie Howard - May 14 - 2:00 amAnyone that is looking for a fast, fun car, the Jetta VR6 is the way to go! People tend to shy away from this car because it is so small, but that is what makes it so amazing; a V6 engine in a car like this is great and damn does it move, but yet it doesnt kill your gas mileage.

Keep Looking!!! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By not another vw - April 14 - 10:00 amI loved the look of this car and that is why I bought it; dont be fooled too. I have had the electrical system replaced twice, mass air flow sensor replaced twice, transmission replaced once, engine coil replaced once, rear back brakes needed replaced early and front brakes are warped, the exhaust system is very noisey at first take- off and it is sluggish. I have maintained this car to the manufactured specifications and then some, yet the car still fails me on a regular basis!!

As bad as it gets - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By highlife - April 14 - 10:00 amI have owned quite a few cars over the years, including a previouse VW, and this is the most unreliable car yet. Transmition needed repair the day it was delivered. Rear brakes gone in only 25,000 miles. Engine sensor bad, center console handle self destructs. This is not a cheap car, I expect better from a ford focus ! I will buy another VW product !! Dont buy !

Same Problems as Everyone Else!! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By adam12 - April 8 - 10:00 amThis is the 2nd new Golf/Jetta I have owned. The 1st was a 99 1/2 GTI. It got bought back under the Texas Lemon Law. Forward to early 2001 and our new 2001 Jetta 1.8T. Six months in guess what happens...yep window fails. So in 3 model years VW failed to fix a known problem..that is great customer service! On to the rest of the list: 2 pre-cat O2 sensors, 2 post cat O2 sensors, Mass Air Flow sensor, Center arm rest, Center arm rest latch, Ignition Coils, Throttle Body harness, Throttle Body, 2 window regulators, rear brakes worn at 22K miles (fronts are still good at 50K miles).

Loved it - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
By kristikrum - April 4 - 7:49 pmSad to say I totalled my wagon last week. This was a very functional and reliable car for me. I haul lots of stuff to work every day, so it was great for the space factor although removing head rests to lay seats flat was a bit cumbersome. I received the car at 70,000 from and rode it to like 117 in 2.5 years. In that time I changed the impeller (seems common) on the coolant system and the front bumper shield thing rides a bit low to the ground so it was dragging and held up by duct tape in its last few months. The brakes were great, and I didnt mind the cup holders either way. This car saved my life in my accident where I hit the cement wall on the freeway, so Im 4eva grateful.
