This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Passing up gas stations! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I just picked up my Jetta TDI 3 weeks ago after lurking for years on the TDI forum. Its very quiet inside while cruising and is quicker than it feels. I am constantly finding myself trying to slow down because Im going too fast! The DSG tranny is a dream and gets almost the same mileage as the 5 speed stick. The car is very roomy inside and the trunk is huge! With the rear seats folded, I was able to fit 5 very large trophies that are over 4 feet tall.

When my 2006 Jetta TDI had 42,000 miles a timing belt clip broke at 45 mph, and after a loud "clang" the engine locked up. I requested a new engine, but VW refused and instead repaired the existing engine with a new camshaft for cylinder #1. Since then two more camshafts have failed for cylinder #1. The vehicle suddenly lost power in front of a semi tractor trailer at 65 mph and my family was almost killed. Absolute lemon. VW Customer Care Center doesnt care. Period.

  • Great value in the $25K range - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Just bought the Jetta 2.0T with Option package 1. Great value all around for someone who wants a larger size compact with good to excellent performance, safety, and luxury features. The torque (acceleration) is great both from 0-60 and for passing on the freeway. The DSG transmission is seamless - you barely can tell when the gears shift - no turbo lag. I also appreciate the engine braking and overall quick throttle response. Interior features (dual climate controls, heated 12-way power leather seats, sunroof) are ergonomically excellent. Handling very good. Ride comfort good given handling (much better than Acura). More interior space than Audi A3, same engine, trani, chassis, $Ks less.

  • Great Car for the Money - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Since buying my Jetta TDI, I have had nothing but fun with it. My gas mileage has been anywhere from 42 - 48 on every single tank full. I love the sunroof and the heated seats. I was amazed at how low my insurance was also. So far, the only thing I have found that I do not care for, is the way the armrest covers up the second cup holder in the console. If you have two poeple in the front seat, it is a fight getting the second drink out from under the arm rest, unless you push it all the way back again. this car has enormous trunk space and lots of power plugs for anything you would want to plug in. Overall, the Jetta has been just super.

The Jetta TDI is an excellent vehicle for the price. This is my second TDI and probably wont be my last. It gets 40 mpg and it isnt even broken in. I would definitely recommend it for anybody who wants a stylish, safe vehicle with outstanding fuel economy.

  • German Engineering--seriously? - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I have a 2006 TDI. I have replaced the dual mass flywheel because the original failed. That is a very expensive repair and negates a whole lot of good gas mileage savings. I also had to replace the cracked plastic valve cover. The rubber coating on the radio and radio buttons has peeled off and looks horrible. The mechanism on most of the air vents have broken off so they dont move easily. The fuel door lock sticks so the fuel door doesnt close easily. These kinds of problems simply shouldnt exist on a car at this price point. I havent seen that kind of poor quality in any other late model I have driven.

  • The Best Jetta Ever - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This is my third Jetta in six years. Volkswagen has taken the previous model and improved it beyond my wildest expectations. The improvements in features alone are too numerous to mention.Fit and finish ranks up there with the best, any European Car maker has to offer. It is a quality Automobile.Drove my other two Jettas 140K each and passed them on in the family. They are still running great. Volkswagen , " Keep up the good work". You are gaining customers for life.

  • Got the Bad One Off the Lot - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I purchased my 2006 Jetta in September 2005. The car spent over 60 days total in the shop until February 2006. It had a fuel injection problem with intermittent loss of power. VW bought it back in January 06. I noticed the new car had more power and drove nicely (except for the clutch was very light and required a little bit more gas pedal.) The shop that services my car checked out everything on my car and said everything is OK. I took it to another dealership and they were amazed that I could drive it because the clutch was not engaging properly. I told them that this cars clutch was exactly like the first one I had and that I was told that this was normal. I drove a new 2007 TDI and it was much better. I traded it in for a Rabbit.

Ive had my 06 Jetta Value Edition for just under a year so far. It has been a wonderful car. Its two visits to the shop have been only for oil changes. The car performs like nothing else in its class. It gets pretty good gas mileage. Its even smoother out on the highway than the Volvo that I traded in for it. I will definitely get another VW when this lease is up! You really cant go wrong with this car! VW really did it right this time.
