This Year's Model Updates:

For 2001, improved cloth and velour interior materials come standard in the GL and GLS trim. Side curtain airbags that offer head protection for front and rear passengers are introduced this year, and steering wheel controls for the audio and cruise systems are available on GLS/GLX trim models. Optional 17-inch wheels and a sport suspension can be had on GLX models and GLS models with the 1.8T or VR6 engine. The Wolfsburg Edition returns as a limited-edition model in early 2001 -- standard features include sport suspension, bolstered sport seats and 16-inch BBS wheels. All models get redesigned cupholders and a trunk entrapment release button. A wagon arrives in the spring of 2001.

Pros:
  • Solid build quality, rich interior materials, loads of features, available turbo and V6 engines.
Cons:
  • Cookie-cutter Euro-copy sheet metal, bigger standard-features list means bigger base price.

Ive had this car for almost a year and the only thing that Ive replaced is the brakes. Ive put on a lot of extras with the motor and the visual details. ive loved this car since ive had it. i also has 95,000 miles on and the dealer gave me all the service records witch he told very good car of it. basically if you can take care of the car, you will love it

  • One of the best cars for under $25k - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Let me start by saying, everyone should stop comparing this to the BMW 3 series. Its more appropriate to compare the sister car, the A4 to the BMW. Compare the Jetta to the Acura Integra, but not cars priced about $10k more! Although, the fact that people compare the two says a great deal about the car. The car handles great, its got plenty of power, it was reasonably priced especially considering all the features the car has. Ive put a lot of mileage on the car in the first year and had no problems.

  • Expensive to service - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Handles well. The seats collect fuzz- balls, however with a little work and a pet sponge they can be removed. Rubber interior parts peel. Weve replaced the door handles twice and now the armrest is peeling. By the way the armrest also broke it wont hold position. Some of the interior lights work sporatically. The regular sevice maintenance is expensive. The 50000 mile scheduled maintenance costs about $375 and cosists of mostly checking things and replacing plugs, air filter, a tire rotation and an oil change. Good news is my windows havent yet fallen out.

VERY FUN TO DRIVE, QUICK AND HANDLES WELL. WINTER PACKAGE COMES IN HANDY WHEN COLD. NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR DUE TO WORKMANSHIP OF DEALER.

  • I love my Jetta but.... - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

I love my 2001 Jetta, its really a great car for the money, rides well, reliable, and overall very solid. I dislike however how everything is so very expensive to fix. Any time I walk into the dealership its going to be $200 + in order for them to do what they need to do. I had a relay switch go out on my turn signal (recall), my trunk latch just failed (fixed myself for $40.00), check engine light has been on for about a year with no apparent problem, interior collects lint, side door arm rest is peeling, and the transmission feels like its slipping in second gear. I think for a used car you cant beat it.
