This Year's Model Updates:

The 2008 Volkswagen Jetta sees a few changes. Most notably, the sedan gets a bump up in power, thanks to a revised 2.5-liter standard engine good for 170 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. Trim levels get new names: S, SE and SEL. The 2.0T engine is available only on the newly revised limited-edition Wolfsburg Edition model and the Volkswagen GLI. (Volkswagen has dropped the "Jetta" name in a move to make the GLI similar to the GTI. The GLI is reviewed separately.) A power two-way recline feature for the driver seat is now standard across all trims.

Pros:
  • Pleasant ride, high-end interior materials, long list of safety features, meticulous build quality.

  • WOW did not expect this - 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

If you wold have told me i would be driving a vw a month ago i would have said youre nuts. I am coming out of a BMW and was looking at the usual suspect luxury cars - there all nice but nothing made me go wow. When i test drove this car on a whim i knew in 5 minutes that i wanted it. The 2.0 turbo is a rocket! I chose the wolfsberg over the gli just because i wanted something that looked a little more grown up - and the rims and tires on this car make it look very nice. For the money there is nothing that can even touch this car - its super fun to drive - great styling- ton of options - well built -and did i mention its super fast! Only 12.5k sent to US- pick one up if you can find one!

  • Love My Jetta - 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Wonderful car. Almost 2,000 miles on it with no problems at all. The car handles and performs well and still delivers relatively good fuel mileage. I have been averaging 27 mph combined city/highway. The car is a great balance of handling, performance and comfort. I find myself looking forward to just getting in the car to drive it. It is great for zipping around in the city and it is also comfortable on the highway. I think Volkswagen really did a nice job with this car.

  • My Second VW - 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

I am also an outside sales rep and chose the 08 Jetta Wolfsburg fully loaded which replaced my 02 Jetta GLS. What an excellent choice for someone on the go. Ive racked up 6100 in 3 months and use 91 or higher Im getting great gas mileage, I love the Sirius radio and the more mature look. I did considered the BMW but thankful I stuck with VW. We are the most loyal owners and I love eating up the traffic as I fly by with my 6-speed triptonic. Its very fun to drive if you need more from your car I suggest stepping upto the Passat. Seriously you cant beat the quality and standard features that most other luxury vehicle build into there series upgrades. Test drive one at your local VW dealer!

Purchased W-burg edition on a Saturday, by Thursday it needed a radiator hose replaced. Problem fixed by dealer, although part had to be ordered (2 days). Besides this issue, a truly great/fun driving experience. The 200-hp engine is way more than the car needs but love the power when you need it. This car car could easily sell for 5-7K more than it cost.

  • Full satisfaction - 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

I have owned my Wolfsburg Jetta 2.0T with the 6Spd DGS Auto since Late July 08. Ive been a continuous VW owner for 4 decades and this is hands down the best I have ever owned and driven. If I had to spec a car to all my likes, I couldnt have thought it out any better than VW delivered this one. Oh, and it stops as well as it goes - great brakes! As the car sits stock, it also looks great with the nice factory upgrades such as the wheels, low profile deck spoiler.

  • Bad ergonomics - 2008 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Trying to downsize from a minivan, my husband picked out this car. I did test drive the car, but what can you tell in 15 minutes? It is totally ergonomically incorrect for my size - 5. If I ran the world, all cars would have adjustable pedals, as they are a godsend for short drivers. The telescoping steering wheel is not enough. The gas pedal is very stiff and is causing knee pain. The seating arrangement - you have to recline - also causes me back pain, even though the seats are nice and supportive. I am not looking forward to driving this car in the snow - too much zip and no all wheel drive. All that said, my husband loves the car. He is a normal size and loves racing.

I leased this car for my daughter. Sign and then drive $279 per month 10k per year 36 months, only out of pocket was motor vehicle fees. This car is well equipped, power Windows, locks, a/c, Sirius radio and all safety features and good crash test ratings. The leatherette looks and feels like leather. The car has a nice ride, good acceleration and very good handling. The transmission has a manual mode and a sport mode. My only gripes so far is the engine takes about 30 seconds to warm up and the am radio is staticky. This is my first VW and so far so good. As long as it remains reliable I would recommend this car. Also this car has a huge trunk and all the seats fold down.

  • 2008 VW Jetta SE 5speedM - 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

This is my 2nd Jetta, previously driving a 00 Jetta GL 5speed. Im very impressed with the extras that come standard with the 08. I put 193,393 on my 00 and Im thinking I might do the same with this one. Its a great car to drive! Gas mileage is a bit less than my 00 since its a 2.5 and I had been driving a 2.0. I think the experience of driving this car will be worth the few extra dollars Ill spend in gas. I highly recommend taking the VW experience and going for a Jetta. The 08s have so much more room that even my 67" son fits comfortably.

  • Brakes - 2008 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

This is my 3rd VW Jetta. I have driven these vehicles for over 10 years now. This one is nice, but the 5 cylinder burns much more than my last 4 cylinder and without much more pep. My real complaint is the brakes, I am at 23,898 miles and about to change the rear brakes, AGAIN, for a cost of around 370 dollars. Coming from vehicles (VW included) that I went almost 50,000 miles on rear brakes this is disturbing to say the least. Still a great car, a few flaws and electronic issues as every Jetta I have owned or known anyone to have owned has had and would still recommend it if they fixed the brakes. Hope this helped.

  • Not a solid car - 2008 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Bought this vehicle in hopes for its reliability and gas mileage. This car not only disappointed, but I asked Burnsville Volkswagon to buy it back. It had clutch problems right from the word go. It was in the shop more than it was at home. I almost forgot the color of our car. My wife and I live in MN and traded in her jeep for what we thought was to be a gas improvement since we had two four-wheel drives at home. I would not recommend a jetta to anyone. I put on Bridgestone Blizzack tires to try to improve the terrible winter performance to no avail. You would think a car from Germany could handle some snow. The traction control system is a joke and noise maker. Terrible vehicle.....
