This Year's Model Updates:

Volkswagen eliminates the GLX trim level for wagons -- this means that those who prefer the VR6 engine to the 1.8T engine will have to stick with the sedan. As a consolation, GLS wagons equipped with the 1.8T are eligible for a premium package, which bundles traditional GLX content like power seats, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, wood interior trim and a trip computer. Additionally, VW has made the 1.8T available on both the GL sedan and wagon. GLs now have power windows and mirrors, cruise control and a CD player, while the GLS gets a standard sunroof and alloy wheels. All Jettas are available with stability control (ESP), heated seats and the Monsoon sound system. Other changes include a ULEV rating for the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, redesigned cupholders and backlit buttons on the standard stereo head unit.

Pros:
  • Powerful 1.8T and VR6 engines, fuel-efficient TDI powerplant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard features, solid build quality.
Cons:
  • More expensive than most small sedans and wagons, tight rear-seat legroom.

Car Description: Alaska Green, Beige Leather, Monsoon System, Rear Spoiler, 17" Alloy Wheels and Sport Suspension, Cold Weather Package, Power Sunroof, & 5 Speed Manual. Car Review: A blast to drive, test drove a GLI and a 1.8T and was hard to justify the X- tra $3 Gs for the V-6. Go with the manual to fullt see the fruits of the turbo, also the 17" alloy wheels and sport suspension really does make a difference in terms of looks and handling. Alaska Green isnt a color I see too often up here, so the car stands out in all of the Reflex Silver and Black Jettas we pull up next to.

Like most Jetta owners I was thrilled to be driving my fire engine red Jetta at breakneck speeds down the highway, and then a year passed and the problems began. First, the coolant thermostat wasnt working and my car overheated in the middle of rush hour traffic in Atlanta...fun. Then, all of my tires began slowly leaking air.. Not sure how it happened or what caused it but so far one has gone completely flat and I had to use the spare. Then the door handle broke on the passenger side and people were forced to climb in through the window...lovely. And most recently, the clutch blew and I had to have the entire clutch replaced, costing 1300$. Dont waste your money! Get a Honda/Toyota.

Fit and finish of this car and its rock solid feel have it all over the Japanese competitors. The exterior paint is almost flawless I get between 42 and 44 mpg no matter how fast I drive.Lots of standard features even in this entry level GL model like the standard CD player. Dealer support is excellant. I have had two problems that they fixed right the first time (transmision shifting problem and pinched fuel injector line). Everyone loves the dash board lights. The attention to every detail of the interior is amazing at this price level. The folding split rear seats give it plenty of cargo room.

My Jetta was my graduation present to myself. I absolutely love it. I had wanted one for years - it has far exceeded my expectations! It is a solid, stylish fun car to drive. I have the Manual 6 GLI - the most fun I have had driving a car in years. It is loaded and I look for reasons to drive it. So, from this 50 year old to you: try it! It will be hard to walk away from!

Twice the window fell into the door (once the passenger window, once the driver window). Ive had a few minor problems otherwise, but overall, I would lease one again - perhaps the more upscale GLX! I love my Jetta and I would recommend it to first time drivers (very safe) or drivers who want a German vehicle for less!

just got this a week ago, and absolutely loving it. previous owner of a 1992 saab. i just feel gorgeous driving it! my complaints? the cupholder is right above the radio, which freaks me out. theres not enough storage room in the front/sides...frustrating. cant see behind my right shoulder -- big blind spot, headrest for driver is awkward?, car dosnt "roll" automatically on "D" (i think this is a safety feature, but i just need to get used to it), the cloth interior looks like itll be tough to clean.

About a year ago I was looking for my first car out of college and obviously didnt have terribly much money to my name. During my hunt for cars that could fit a sensible budget and still look good while performing well, it was clearly evident that the Jetta was the way to go. Coming from a lead- foot, the 1.8T was fun for about six months then I wanted the V6. Still a fantastic car though!
