This Year's Model Updates:

Volkswagen eliminates the GLX trim level for wagons -- this means that those who prefer the VR6 engine to the 1.8T engine will have to stick with the sedan. As a consolation, GLS wagons equipped with the 1.8T are eligible for a premium package, which bundles traditional GLX content like power seats, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, wood interior trim and a trip computer. Additionally, VW has made the 1.8T available on both the GL sedan and wagon. GLs now have power windows and mirrors, cruise control and a CD player, while the GLS gets a standard sunroof and alloy wheels. All Jettas are available with stability control (ESP), heated seats and the Monsoon sound system. Other changes include a ULEV rating for the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, redesigned cupholders and backlit buttons on the standard stereo head unit.

Pros:
  • Powerful 1.8T and VR6 engines, fuel-efficient TDI powerplant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard features, solid build quality.
Cons:
  • More expensive than most small sedans and wagons, tight rear-seat legroom.

  • Love at first drive - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Great car, powerful, turbo kicks in at low speeds to give you much better performance overall. Little to no turbo lag. And still get 25-32mpgs. I have the sport package with the suspension car handles beautifully. Could not have asked for a better deal.

  • Drives Great...When Not in the Shop - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

I like the way this car drives, but even though the engine works fine, everything else is breaking. My car has a cracked sunroof frame, problems with its door locks, and water is leaking into it, etc... My car has had more waranty work done on it than all my other cars combined, after only three years (I bought it new). I am ready to get rid of it before the waranty expires.

In addition to owning a 2003 Jetta GLI, I also own a 1996 Jetta GL (which is why I went back to VW). This car is fun to drive and exudes a performance class that stands all by itself.

  • Overall, love it.....but... - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

This car was my pride and joy until some jerk ran a stop light and put her out of commission. Sad day, indeed. Id warn anyone against buying used. Can only assume every other moron out there drove the crap out of this car like I did. I mean, if the speedo says 160, shouldnt you make sure its legit?

  • Fix the Window Problem! - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

My Jettas windows have broken twice already. The problem is that the window is heald up by a tiny, plastic device that breaks CONSTANTLY. Its a real hassle to get fixed too! My friend also has a Jetta and all four of her windows have fallen into the door as well. The cupholders are in a rotten spot (the condensation on the cup drips right onto the radio). I think this would have been a great car for me if a bit more $$ was spent by the manufacturer on the parts you dont see!

  • Handles like a dream - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Ive only had this car for a couple of months but I love it. It is a very solid car and you have to be careful not to speed because it doesnt feel like you are going as fast as you are. Diesel engine is great, cant wait till the US finally realizes what Europe has figured out about diesel engines. Great roadtrip car- Cleveland to DC and still have almost half a tank. The diesel also has much better pickup at highway speed that gas engines so it shifts less with the cruise control on. Actually, I dont think it ever had to shift with the cruise control on.

Have a 2002 bought in december2001. Wonderful car to drive. The turbo is very peppy and fun. The car is very nice in the city and on the road. My kids really love the car and are are comfortable in the backseat. Car radio is great, wonderful storage space and nice uncomplicated and clean looks. This car is more thn a car for the younger set. The car is a great value. The dealership has been great

  • Great Car - Service Sucks - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I love my car. Everytime I get into it I love it more. However, I have had to take it in for service 3 times in the 2 months that I have owned it. There is a rattle in the door window that they just cant seem to fix. Thank God for the Monsoon sound system. :o) I do not like the service people and I think that their level of service leaves a lot to be desired. Fortunately, I love the car enough to make up for their shortcomings.

  • Great BANG for the buck - 2003 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

This car feels like a luxury sports sedan to the point of making it a bargain. I just cannot imagine why I would want to pay so much more for an Audi A4. Only problem I have found is some rattling on the dashboard, and some squeaks from the door insulation.
