This Year's Model Updates:

For 2001, improved cloth and velour interior materials come standard in the GL and GLS trim. Side curtain airbags that offer head protection for front and rear passengers are introduced this year, and steering wheel controls for the audio and cruise systems are available on GLS/GLX trim models. Optional 17-inch wheels and a sport suspension can be had on GLX models and GLS models with the 1.8T or VR6 engine. The Wolfsburg Edition returns as a limited-edition model in early 2001 -- standard features include sport suspension, bolstered sport seats and 16-inch BBS wheels. All models get redesigned cupholders and a trunk entrapment release button. A wagon arrives in the spring of 2001.

Pros:
  • Solid build quality, rich interior materials, loads of features, available turbo and V6 engines.
Cons:
  • Cookie-cutter Euro-copy sheet metal, bigger standard-features list means bigger base price.

  • I LOVE THIS CAR - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought this car in January of 2001, brand new! It has the sport suspension, monsoon sound system, 5 speed, 16 inch BBS rims, recaro seats, and sunroof! IT handles like a DREAM! Its fast, fun, and very reliable! My only problem with it was the windows, but apparently ALL VWs had that problem, and it was fixed! Service was ok at the dealer i bought it at, but EXCELLENT at The Imported Car Store in Melbourne! NO mechanical problems or electrical problems! nothing what so ever! i have 26k miles on it now! and it still runs strong! the gas mileage is good and i would highly reccommend one for anyone looking for a car of this type! it is FAST

Germans use nothing but quality when it comes to their cars. VW are a well designed machine you have to do regular maintenance. I had my jetta for well over a year and a half No problems. I even went to basic and ait, the car sat for 8 mnths. got back jumped the battery and she was still in good condition. Oh and when it come to quality. They took the time have the mirrors self adjust when u put the car in reverse, a safe fail feature on ur windows if anything obstucts the window from going up. Not to mention i got stuck in the snow and no choce but to floor it at over 8,000 rpms for over 5 mins to get free. It makes me mad when someone talks down on a perfectly good car. The jetta is a Go.

Great Car...Really! If you are looking for a Good car with classic lines, that you will continue to love even when things dont always go perfectly, then the VR6 is a great choice. The car rides well on the highway and well paved secondary roads..on choppy roads at low speed it can be a little unconfortable. High Speed handling and peformance 220 klm is exceptional, the sweet spot is 120 mph.. The passing power really surprises many V8 american cars i.e

  • Love my Jetta - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

I love my Jetta. I just wish the Wolfsburg came with leather. The only things I would change about my car would be the cup holders (had a full soda fly out on a turn ALL over the passenger side), more rear passenger room, and leather. Hated the Monsoon sound system it came with, changed it out. I am seriously considering buying a 2005 GLI Jetta when my lease is up in 2005, for the leather, but not sure how I will like it without the turbo.

This is the BEST car I have ever owned. Where do I start? The seats are so comfortable. I can drive 500 miles and be as fresh as a daisy when I arrive. The mpg is amazing. I drive 75 most of the way and still get 34 miles per gallon. My old car would get 28 at that speed. I can fit a ton of stuff inside. I am tall (6ft 2in) so my seat is back a bit. When the rear seat is folded, I am still comfortable. I am not jammed against the wheel trying to drive. Then, the space back there. With the seats up, I can fit three loaded golf bags back there. With the seats down, I was able to fit furniture inside (kitchen table and chairs) when I was moving. Awesome car, highly recommended.

  • Great Car! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

This has been a great car. I have over 180,000 miles on it and it still runs like new. I cant believe the gas mileage - 45 MPG and I dont have a light foot. This car is fun to drive it handles well. The only thing that I have done to it is put diesel in and change the oil. I love the torque curve you get with a diesel plenty of power especially on hills. The 5-speed is all so great!

I purchased this car last year from the orginal owner with just over 100,000 miles on it. I have put 35,000 trouble free miles on it in the past year and I love it... Great power, reliability and cant forget fuel economy. At an aveage of 50 mpg it pays for itself. I have had no problems to speak of, and have only needed regular maintenance and had to replace the brake light switch, (common problem), and was a cheap fix.

  • So nice, so fun, lokks so good - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

This is THE BEST CAR I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. It is quick, comfortable, easily seats a family of five, and drives just as good as a Mercedes-Benz. My next car is certianly to be a VW. The warranty is excellent, my dealer has good follow up for services.

  • Best VW yet, but service getting pricey - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Love this car. Of the the 7 VWs (4 types) I have owned, this is my favorite. Great to drive, efficient, nimble etc. etc. The regular maintenance costs (not major repairs) are getting to be ridiculous. It is a cash extraction racket. This is probably endemic of new autos in general. VW has always been a better value than most, but that gap is narrowing. I do love this car! I do long for the days of $100 a visit service costs, as opposed to $200-$400 (assuming no emission system oxygen sensors etc.)

  • Poor Mans Audi A4 - and more! - 2001 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Who needs Quattro anyway. And for a $5,000 less, who would not be willing to live with the imperceptibly higher level of vibration. The car corners like a champ, it accelerates like a rocket, it comes to a stop quickly, and it cruises down the highway as smoothly as any pimp-mobile. The GLX package with the sport wheels has definite curb appeal - even valets and gas station attendants, jaded as they might be about everything automotive, comment on the car! The on-dash trip computer tells you everything you need to know, the cruise control doesnt require any training to operate, ample headspace give you the feel of a much larger car.
