After being fully redesigned last year, the Toyota Tundra enters 2008 with only minor changes, such as the expansion of the base "Tundra Grade" trim to all body styles and additional standard features for the SR5 and Limited trim levels.

Pros:
  • A wide range of cab and bed styles, potent 5.7-liter V8, brawny tow ratings, spacious passenger quarters, numerous safety and convenience features.
Cons:
  • Cabin has a lot of hard plastic and a few ergonomic flaws.

  • The Best Damn Truck Period - 2008 Toyota Tundra

I drive a lot. Have an E350 van, F250 diesel, Tribeca and this combines all of those vehicles abilities into one - and that was the point. In 3 months I have traveled 11,500 miles incl east to west coast r/t via Dallas. Total av gas is 16.2. Rides great on ALL surfaces. Have just towed a loaded 5 x 8 trailer and a full bed (appx 5000 lbs total) that trip alone was 1300 miles avg gas was 15.6 - bottom line this vehicle has loads of room, features, and therefore offers me 4 vehicles in one, van like space & hauling, SUV like passenger room, great gas and truck like towing. With the 4.7 V8 and an 8 ft bed I can still hit 60 in about 7.5 seconds if I need to. Best vehicle I have ever owned!!

Leased this vehicle in Nov, 2007. 4,800 miles as of Feb, 2008. Former owner of a 2005 Dodge Ram Powerwagon. The Tundra Limited equipped with the off road package and navigation system is far superior in every respect, except dedicated offroading (no stock truck beats the Powerwagon for that). The Tundra is a large vehicle, but the parking sonar, rear view camera and outstanding turning radius makes it relatively easy to park and maneuver. Road manners are outstanding with performance car-like acceleration and passing capability. Back seat leg room is the best in its class. If it wasnt for its truck-like gas mileage (14.5 mpg average so far), it could easily pass for a daily driver.

  • Better gas mileage - 2008 Toyota Tundra

I traded my 2005 Tundra for a 2008 Tundra so we could tow a travel trailer. We have the trailer, but have not had it on the road yet. However, careful recording of fuel consumption (not towing) reveals that we get nearly 18 MPG on the highway, and 17 around town, which is quite a bit better than the older Tundra. The new one has the 5.7 liter V8. Bring the trailer home over The Cascades, the truck had no problem maintaining speed up the steep grade to Government Camp on Mt. Hood, although we are restricted to 50 mph for the first 500 miles of towing. Were very satisfied with the truck.

  • Miles ahead of 2005 F-150 - 2008 Toyota Tundra

Very disappointed with the brakes on my 2005 Ford F-150 XLT. I had test driven a couple of 08 Tundras in the past year and a half and I was very impressed with the feel and the power of Toyotas brakes. They are awesome! When you want to stop you stop! With the Ford I was always a little apprehensive with the brakes, always anticipating an early stop and even when I would plan ahead I always felt that they were unsafe. Well I have to tell you after 4 Ford trucks Ford has lost me as a customer.

  • First Truck/Best Truck - 2008 Toyota Tundra

I am 47 yrs old, this is my first truck, so you know I have done my home work before purchasing. Very impress to say the least. The new Tundra beat all the other trucks in its class in every category. After owning a 2001 C5 Vette for three years, its kinda hard to give up speed all together. My vette did 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, but imagine a 7000 lb truck going 0-60 in 6.0 seconds. I LOVE IT!! I put some 22" U2 chrome wheels, added side bars, tinted my windows, bedliner and exhaust chrome tip. What a good looking Tundra!

  • Awesome truck, terrible mpg. - 2008 Toyota Tundra

This truck is amazing, Ive heard people talk about the kick in the engine, but I only feel it when I put it into reverse.... it kicks HARD!! But Toyota sure has gotten tougher, it cost me, but its worth the reliability and customer service.

  • Couldnt be happier - 2008 Toyota Tundra

If youre looking for a big, fast pickup, get this truck!! 5.7 cant be beat, except in MPG, but who buys a truck for mileage. Super roomy, and Im 6 200, friends are all bigger than me and we all spread out when Im driving. Only way Id be happier is in a $100k luxury sedan, and Im not rich, so this truck definitely has it all for the working man! Top ends are nice, but way too much for not that much. Grade model has everything you need, unless you cant read a map and dont know how to back up!

  • Nearly Perfect Truck - 2008 Toyota Tundra

I have almost 14k on the truck and I am more than impressed. I am very demanding of my vehicles and have no tolerance for rattles, design flaws, quality, etc. No disappointments with this truck so far. I have driven the truck in rain, snow and ice. Rarely need 4WD to get around even in the worst conditions. Tons of power, excellent transmission & brakes. Averaging 17.1 combined mpg on new AT tires. Tows like a diesel. Amazingly quite and solid road manners. Unbelievable amount of room in front and rear seats. All of the gadgets (bluetooth, rear camera, nav) work perfectly. I have purchased over a dozen new trucks (all brands gas and diesel). So far, the best truck I have ever owned.

  • Great Truck - 2008 Toyota Tundra

Have had the Tundra for 18 months. Use it for work, pulling a 12 x 6 covered trailer and for long trips. Bought the truck used with 12000 miles on it and have not had any problems. Performance is good, fuel mileage is good for this size truck (19 on road) and ride is great. Dont disagree about the oil change procedure, it is a pain! The bed is short, but fixed that by putting on a Leer Topper, painted with a matching color. Really nice and provides lots of room. Would I buy it again, yes!

Drove Silverados for ten years. Last new was a 1998 with 128,000 plus miles combination city and highway. Was in excellent shape when I gave it to my daughter and bought the Double Cab SR5 with big V8. Tundra handled a lot tighter than Ford or Chevrolet with less effort. Ride is smooth on and off road. Comfortable in front seats and back according to my 64" son-in law. Still in break in period with 1500 miles on it. Driving 70 to 75 MPH with air conditioner on and cruise set I average 19.8 MPG highway and city is 15.3 with air conditioner on. I do avoid stop and go traffic as much as possible which has helped the gas mileage a lot. Better gas mileage than my 1998 Silverado.
