Overview & Reviews
The Tundra continues into 2006 without major changes, though an adoption of new and more accurate SAE engine measuring procedures by Toyota has resulted in a slight drop in the amount of stated power for the V6 and V8 engines.
- Smooth and refined V8 engine, Toyota build quality and reliability, nimble off-road, most carlike of the full-size trucks.
- Lacks serious brawn for towing and hauling, narrow cabin, mediocre seat comfort.

ridin squeaky - 2006 Toyota Tundra
By matt pohle - July 11 - 7:40 amHave had for 3500 miles now. Super smooth ride for off-road suspension, great looks, comfortable interior, ample get up & go V-8. Poor MPG for small 4.7 liter V-8 (avg. 13-14 mpg). Recurring problem w/ VERY noisy serpentine belt. Have had back at dealer 2 times now in less than a month, have 3rd appt. scheduled for same problem. Dealer says its either faulty belt or belt tensioner (both have been replaced). Either way, didnt expect to have such a problem w/ a "reliable" Toyota that cost me over $30k.

Almost Worth The Wait - 2006 Toyota Tundra
By Jack - February 28 - 9:50 pmAfter researching both large and small trucks for the last few years, the decision came down to the Tundra because of its build quality and price. Overall the truck is great. Great to drive, really comfortable and very quiet. Ive only had a minor problem with the brake light sensor keeping the brake lights on. Im extremely disappointed in the gas mileage, 12 in town and 15 on the road (its only a 2WD). I would have been happy with 16/18. Makes me wonder how this may affect the engine over time. Got 20 years out of my last truck, but Im not sure yet how this Tundra will fare over time.

Poor Gas Milage - 2006 Toyota Tundra
By Tony Thomas - February 16 - 6:13 pmThis truck looks and runs great. Ive gotten a few compliments on the looks. Braking is very good. Only 14-MPG city. Thats very little stop & go driving & very disappointing. The other problem is the wide turning radius. U-turns are a big problem, they turn into K-turns.

Follow up review - 2006 Toyota Tundra
By Pete - October 7 - 5:20 pmI posted back on 4/30/06 and I wanted to comment again. Ive owned my Tundra 2 1/2 years now and Im totally satisfied. I did put flowmasters 70 series (duals) on it and Im very pleased. Additionally, I did put a K&N filter in it as well. I like the sound of it but more importantly my MPG is decent now. I dont drive like a race car driver but I do use it like a truck. City driving I get 16-17. Highway is 19 to 22. Here is the secret... 70 MPH is where I stop getting 20 MPG or better. It drops down to 18-19 MPG.

2006 Tundra XSP - 2006 Toyota Tundra
By miller1624 - September 20 - 4:23 pmI bought this truck new. It now has 87K miles on it and it has never had anything done but oil service. Very dependable and sharp truck. My only compliant is it gets poor fuel mileage and the turning radius is terrible. Bottom line it looks great and never breaks down.

Great Truck, Poor MPG - 2006 Toyota Tundra
By Chuck F - June 1 - 6:00 pmBought this truck just over a yr ago, changed the plugs and air filter, but still can not get over 13.9 on a trip straight through driving. Got as low as 10 mpg 4 wheel drive winter city driving, I average 12.5 mpg :(

Solid Truck - 2006 Toyota Tundra
By Good truck - January 11 - 5:23 amIf you dont need a large engine for hauling loads, this is a solid vehicle. The performance has been good thus far. MPG is a bit lower than Id like for a smaller V8. Interior features are decent. So far it has been what I would expect from Toyota.

Close, but no cigar - 2006 Toyota Tundra
By Roy - December 29 - 5:43 pmI use this truck as a combo vehicle. Long commuting and around town and am mostly satisfied with it, however; there is considerable room for improvement - hopefully the 2007 redesign will address that. Very solid road feel, great ride, great build quality, acceptable mileage esp. on freeway. Some issues with vehicle length esp. in parking lots... a 4 door cab and a 6 box is just too long.

Hawaiian Tundra - 2006 Toyota Tundra
By Jon Cannella - November 11 - 7:00 pmI love my Tundra. this is my favorite truck by far. I have owned other makes and models and this is my best one yet. I have no problem with the towing issues, and I tow 2 Motorcycles and carry 2 in the bed with 4 adult passengers every weekend. I use my truck every day and i love it. to me the other brands were too flamboyant and not enough attention on craftmanship. I will drive my Tundra for many years and be proud of it.

Smooth Ride - 2006 Toyota Tundra
By Pop - October 17 - 5:30 amDurable and reliable, this truck rides like a nice sedan. Radio remote on steering wheel changes am, fm, cd, volume, stations. Nice large console. Lockable bed. Large size takes getting used to if you havent been driving a large truck. Mileage is not good but is typical of a large pickup.
