After being fully redesigned last year, the Toyota Tundra enters 2008 with only minor changes, such as the expansion of the base "Tundra Grade" trim to all body styles and additional standard features for the SR5 and Limited trim levels.

Pros:
  • A wide range of cab and bed styles, potent 5.7-liter V8, brawny tow ratings, spacious passenger quarters, numerous safety and convenience features.
Cons:
  • Cabin has a lot of hard plastic and a few ergonomic flaws.

  • High Expectations - 2008 Toyota Tundra

Just purchased our first Toyota vehicle. Needed a 4wd with the power to pull trailers. We are absolutely over joyed with the comfort and quietness of the ride this truck provides. I have always believed that Toyota builds the best quality vehicles available, and we have high expectations that this pickup will deliver the quality we expected when we purchased. Dont see the harsh ride mentioned by other reviewers. Could be our minds will have changed towards Toyotas after having owned this one awhile. We certainly hope that will not be the case, and dont expect that it will be. Happy owners here so far!

I bought my 08 Tundra used - it had 45k miles on it. Ive put 10k on it. Fits my needs perfectly with 3 kids (huge back seat). Ride quality is great. Acceleration / power is awesome. Too much hard plastic and cheap parts on interior - but still very comfy. I put a 2" leveling kit with larger tires on stock steel wheels - looks better.

  • A disappointed Toyota fan - 2008 Toyota Tundra

I have been a Toyota fan for years. I like Corolla, Camry because they are reliable, gas efficient, good looking, keeping their value really well. A huge mistake was made when I traded in my Camry for a Tundra. I wanted a truck to haul my boat sometimes and for more fun. Auto experts have rated the truck very high. I must say, Edmunds you did totally wrong: Gas mileage: 10-13 MPG. Performance: No fun at all. Engine is very loud. When hauling, it is extremely loud. I miss my Camry very much. Quality: Cheap all around. Styling: too ugly. Reliability: 2 dealer visits per month

  • Transmission Stinks - 2008 Toyota Tundra

Ive now owned brand new Fords, Chevys and this Toyota. The Chevy was the most comfortable, but had terrible brakes. The Ford had the worst gas mileage and the Toyota is about to get traded for the most annoying transmission in the world! That downshifting is ridiculous!! Who are they kidding, this is not the Toyota of 10 years ago. I wont buy another.

  • Great Truck - 2008 Toyota Tundra

We love the ride, very smooth and comfortable. The sliding window is a must. The crew max back seats are huge and comfortable, very nice that they adjust. The truck is very sporty, fast powerful engine. I, the wife, find the accelerator to be too sensitive. I have to pay attention to not push it too fast and give myself whiplash. There is too much black in the interior. Its hard to keep clean. Its our 3rd Tundra. Only replaced the last because we needed more towing power. It tows our 5500lb trailer very well. Not enough chrome on the outside even though we spent about 29k. Towing mirrors are nice. We liked the look of our 05 double cab better but this is a much better truck overall.

  • Best Truck on the Market - 2008 Toyota Tundra

Previous GMC Sierra owner and this truck is way better. Beat out the F150 on a test drive, too. Once you drive it, all others pale in comparison. Power is tremendous, braking is phenomenonal. It drives like a sports car but is a truck. No complaints after 4000 miles. Very tight, quiet, phone syncs flawlessly, excellent radio. The best features: full back window sliding down and the sunroof. Its the next best thing to a convertible.

Traded in my 2003 Reg. cab Tundra for the Dbl cab 5.7L - what an upgrade! Excellent truck to drive for work or pleasure. I did search around and compared other trucks, but still kept comiing back to Toyotas standards of quality and reliability. Im 65" and can comfortably sit in the rear seats. The power is exceptional.

  • Cant wait to jump in and drive - 2008 Toyota Tundra

I am 42 and I have owned 51 vehicles since 1984. I always thought Toyota had a bland design so I never bought until 2007. Now I LOVE Toyota. Seems all their efforts go into the important aspects of a vehicle, not "bells and whistles" I am so JACKED about my new Tundra and struggle to find anything significantly wrong. Just LOVE the Tundra!!!

Have owned most light trucks over the last 25 years. This by far disappoints in most categories. The ride is harsh and poorly dampened, the radio, though upgraded could not keep a station. The integrated phone system, though great in concept worked when it wanted to. The steering is vague, the transmission needs improvement. 6 spd. sounds good until you put it to the test. Coming to a stop it was evident that you could experience each speed back to 1st. 6th gear is like the old 3sp. stick if you shifted too quickly the vehicle sounded as if it were lagging... same for the Tundra. The interior: plastic. I have bought a new Avalanche, top of the line for less money... fabulous

  • Worst Truck Ever Owned - 2008 Toyota Tundra
    By -

Im 50 years old, professional with my own business, and Ive owned a truck from every full size truck manufacturer at one time or another. This truck is THE WORST, MOST UNRELIABLE truck I have ever owned. My last trouble truck was a Dodge, and I would give anything to get that truck back, as the troubles with that Dodge pale in comparison. Ive had the Toyota less than a year, and it is up for sale (I wanted to keep it at least 5 years). Issues so far: Brakes, transmission, torque converter, windshield leaks, constant "check engine" light, reverse lights quit working, transfer case leaks.
