After being fully redesigned last year, the Toyota Tundra enters 2008 with only minor changes, such as the expansion of the base "Tundra Grade" trim to all body styles and additional standard features for the SR5 and Limited trim levels.

Pros:
  • A wide range of cab and bed styles, potent 5.7-liter V8, brawny tow ratings, spacious passenger quarters, numerous safety and convenience features.
Cons:
  • Cabin has a lot of hard plastic and a few ergonomic flaws.

  • Tundra Could be Better, Much Better - 2008 Toyota Tundra

Need a part? Be ready to dig DEEP. As an example one steel stamped (basic) wheel: $180.00. The plastic insert that fits around the lugs? $98.43. If you do the math, just the wheels and plastic insert is over 10% of the full purchase price of the truck. Toyota charges big time for parts. Gas mileage? V-6: window sticker from Toyota said 19. I get 18, then 17 now 16. My Ford F-150 V-6: always @ 20. The Ford V-6 eng. was larger.

No other half ton can match this beast. From the style to every detail is what a modern day truck owner would want. My previous truck was a Nissan Titan. It was a decent truck until I got behind the wheel of a new Tundra. They pulled out all of the stops. Great job Toyota. Gas mileage is not bad, but hey its a truck not a hybrid. A+

  • Test Drive the Competition First - 2008 Toyota Tundra

First, I traded in my 1995 Toyota pick-up with 156,000 miles. Test drove the others then came back to Toyota as usual. The 2008 Tundra had cloth seats, single CD player, manual adjust seats and didnt come with floor mats. I bought the Tundra hands down (and it wasnt that much cheaper). Unfortunately Ill have to wait for another 12 or so years to get a new truck... theyre built that good.

  • Another Great American Made Toyota - 2008 Toyota Tundra

After waiting for two years to purchase a 2nd Gen Tundra, I finally got a good deal in 12/08 on a TRD/4X4/Dbl Cab, when gas climbed to $4.00 a gallon. It was well worth the wait. I have not driven the truck that much, and just went through the first tank of gas. I was blown away when my calculations showed 21.7 mpg in combo city/highway driving (my 04 Camry gets 28 mpg). The Tundra has tons of power, space, and is a delight to drive. If you want to buy American, buy a Tundra, because it is made here in the USA by Americans in the Great State of Texas.

  • Interior design - 2008 Toyota Tundra

I had a 2002 Tundra and decided to trade it in for an 08 and couldnt believe the size difference. It is very quiet, but seems to have more bounce to the suspension, which is not rough though. The interior change I hated to see go is the sun visor redesign, which has no pull out extension when turned to the driver window. The sun is always past it!! Also, the visor in front of the main visor is gone. Both of these in combination was the perfect sun block no matter where the sun was. Now I am blinded from front and side. The front visor is worthless as far as I am concerned. It is too short.

  • Very nice truck - 2008 Toyota Tundra

This is a quiet, powerful, well mannered truck. Our biggest surprise after getting the truck home and using it for a while is how huge this thing is. It seemed good sized at the dealership but must have thought the extra effort needed to climb up inside the cabin and not being able to reach over the side of the bed was due to the way it was on display. Nope, its just huge. Not a complaint just a realization. Ours is a standard suspension 4X4 with Michelin road tread tires inflated to Toyotas recommended pressure, which makes the ride in the cabin dead quiet and silky smooth.

  • Like the truck but has problems - 2008 Toyota Tundra
    By -

First Toyota truck I have ever owned. And probably last! I use it to pull my horse trailer and it does that well. But so did my Chevrolet and the Chevy would hold an alignment. Tundra wont. Had 4 alignments done in less than 2 years. Still wearing tires out way to soon. Dealer blames it on bad roads. Chevy was able to hold up to roads. Thought Toyota was supposed to be built better. Also, radio turned off and on by itself. Got it replaced, but lite still goes off and on. Really disappointed dealer cant fix alignment problem. Even took it to another tire place. Thought problem was fixed. After 3000 miles, tires are cupping again already and can feel it pulling. Ridiculous!

  • Pleased but not completely satisfied - 2008 Toyota Tundra

The truck has done everything I have wanted it to do. It has performed well off road, on the highway and in the snow. I have put it to work hauling and towing and it has not failed me. As discussed below, Toyota put cheap tires on the truck. I shouldnt have to replace them at 25K. One of the tires had a crack in it. The local Firestone dealer told me that they tires were to light for the truck. If do your own general maintenance such as oil changes, you will hate Toyota. Changing the oil is time consuming and difficult. See below. I think the under-seat storage bin should be standard. I recommend it. The gas mileage has been as expected: 11-14 in town and 16-18 on the highway.

  • Great Truck - 2008 Toyota Tundra
    By -

Great truck! The other makers do not compare. If youre looking for great gas mileage this is not your truck. If youre looking for reliability, resale value, power and looks this is your truck. With only 1000 miles im getting 15 mpg hwy and city.

  • The Beast of 1/2 Ton P/Us - 2008 Toyota Tundra
    By -

Ive owned 10 p/us prior to the Tundra and I can honestly say this is the best p/u Ive owned to date!! Power, comfort, styling, reliability, etc. Fuel mileage is a bit bad but it is in fact a truck w/huge eng. I work hard for my money so when I spend 30K + I want the best and most reliable available wouldnt anyone?? Toyotas track record speaks for itself! Drive them all and I think youll be taking home the Tundra! Nuff said!
