Model Overview:

Buyers looking for a smart choice in the minivan segment will undoubtedly find themselves considering the Toyota Sienna. Since its introduction in 1998, the Sienna has won over families with its versatility, features, safety record and reputation for reliability.

In reviews, we've lauded the Sienna for its smooth, refined ride and easy-to-drive nature. Another plus is that Toyota has generally offered all-wheel drive on the Sienna, making it a more practical alternative to large three-row crossover SUVs. More recent Siennas can be downright plush in higher trim levels, and there's even an SE model with a sport-tuned suspension that's genuinely sporty. Whichever version you choose, you'll be getting one of the most dependable and rewarding minivans on the market.

  • New and improved - 2004 Toyota Sienna

This is a great vehicle so far. It handles well and is so quite that if the kids are talking I can’t hear the van when it starts. The acceleration and handling are outstanding for a minivan. Speed is maintained up long steep mountain passes. The rear seats are very easy to tumble under. The middle row of seats are easy to remove and carry and effortless to flip forward. Gas mileage is impressive. There are plenty of cup and bottle holders. The only complaints are the mirror to look at the passengers is too far back and the glasses holder is in a weird place.

  • Sienna wheel bearing woes - 2005 Toyota Sienna

Owned Sienna for 4+ years now. Only 120,000 kms on vehicle and both front and rear bearings simply worn out. Very expensive to replace, as both bearings and hubs replaced same time. ($ thousands). No help from Toyota to date, but I continue to ask. Tires were an issue, but they did replace under recall. All toyota AWD vans seem to chew the tires off their rims! We had AWD Previa before and same problem with tires. Power window fell off track and over $400.00 to replace. This is an extremely expensive van to buy, and maintain. Paid over 45,000 taxes in, and still forking out thousands to keep it on road after only 4 years. Most parts are only available through dealer.

  • Love My Sienna! - 2006 Toyota Sienna

I love my sienna. Its roomy, drives very smooth, very little road noise, controls are built with quality, user friendly. I approximate about 24 mpg around town. I have had some problems with the airbag light on dash staying lit. Its been checked out and reset, but then lights up again for no apparent reason a few weeks later. I love the 8th seat. Lots of cubbies, and kids ride very comfortable out of arms reach of each other... LOL. All the power features are fantastic. Very well built and constructed car.

  • Do Not Buy - 2005 Toyota Sienna

From day one anything that could go wrong did. Replaced battery in 3 months, brakes and rotors at 28K miles, tires 30K, miles, door hinge broke, sliding door hinges rattled, seat belts locked up, struts and mounts replaced @ 60K, transmission and torque converter problems start at 45K, at 94K are terrible, still have extended warranty so of course Toyota can find nothing wrong with it. Have also replaced fuel speed sensor, rear air vent goes on and off by itself. Toyota wont fix that either. (guess I have to wait until the extended warranty is up) Windshield whistles??? Very, very, frustrating. Lets not forget replacing the spark plugs 35K miles too soon. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON AN EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!

  • THE BETTER CHOICE! - 2013 Toyota Sienna

I test drove the Grand Caravan, Odyssey, and Sienna before buying. The Dodge felt cheap & rough, the Odyssey was good, and the handling was tight, but it felt like a sports car - transmitted every little bump thru the suspension in a violent way. Also, as I test-drove a 5-speed Honda, the Sienna had noticeably better acceleration. The Honda had less comfy armrests, and no available center console on the base model. For the same price as the base Honda, I got a Sienna LE with power seat, power doors, a nicer ride, satellite radio, and a better reliability record. Only complaint for the Sienna is the drivers "dead pedal" area on the left is too close for comfort. Awesome car & purchase.

  • Reliability - 1999 Toyota Sienna

We bought our CE in 2001 with 34K miles on it. Since then we have maintained it regularly and the only problem weve had is the screw that hold the rear window in place came out. Labor was expensive because it was not easy to get at but we have not had any other problems. It now has 64K miles on it and runs strong.

  • Great Car - 2004 Toyota Sienna

A great improvement over the 2003 model. Great to drive. Quite, a lot of thought went into this van. Fold down 3rd row seat great and easy to do. Slinding door windows which lower part way are great. Comfort is great. excellent back support for driver makes long driving very comfortable. Love this van.

  • Good family car..but not so comfortable - 2004 Toyota Sienna

The van is fine,,but it is small and a bit uncomfortable if you are a larger than average person. It doesnt handle smooth, but i am used to driving a cadillac.

  • Hate this minivan. - 2008 Toyota Sienna

Bought this van new in 2008 and have treated it well. Initially liked it well enough, though lack of flat area on center console was very annoying. However, even from the beginning, poor craftsmanship/materials were evident. Things started breaking within a year. Pieces of trim coming unglued and hanging off, buttons breaking, etc. - those little things that drive you nuts. I had to replace the factory standard tires and battery far sooner than I should have. Cabin noise has also increased significantly since purchase. For the past 5 years I have had a gurgling behind the steering column that no mechanic has ever been able to identify, including Toyota dealership. Van has begun to shimmy and vibrate over 50 mph, which no mechanic has been able to fix. But more concerning is the handling in all weather that is the least bit damp. Despite trying various types of tires, and driving well within the speed dictated by road conditions, the van has significant issues with lack of traction and hydroplaning. Even pulling out at a light on slightly damp roads can cause the wheels to slip. If wet weather is bad, snow is even worse. I have gotten to the point that I just dont drive the vehicle in inclement weather. The only reason I have kept the van is that I only see myself needing a van for another couple years. Once the kids are out of college you no longer need that size vehicle. So I park it on my driveway and use it only when my Honda CRV just isnt big enough.
