Model Overview:

Buyers looking for a smart choice in the minivan segment will undoubtedly find themselves considering the Toyota Sienna. Since its introduction in 1998, the Sienna has won over families with its versatility, features, safety record and reputation for reliability.

In reviews, we've lauded the Sienna for its smooth, refined ride and easy-to-drive nature. Another plus is that Toyota has generally offered all-wheel drive on the Sienna, making it a more practical alternative to large three-row crossover SUVs. More recent Siennas can be downright plush in higher trim levels, and there's even an SE model with a sport-tuned suspension that's genuinely sporty. Whichever version you choose, you'll be getting one of the most dependable and rewarding minivans on the market.

So the engine, transmission and drive-line are still good to go after 145k but what about everything else? To replace the sparkplugs, the engine has to be dropped which is very expensive. Weve had a sliding door fail on us and it cost over $2k to repair. The other door is now starting to make a very similar sound. The tires they recommend are from the Camry since the van frame is based off it but the vehicle weighs a lot more so you eat through them very quickly. The rear springs are undersized and loose their life very quickly. Still havent found a beefed-up/stronger solution yet so the butt is dragging. The automatic doors take a lot of power so batteries are short lived.

  • 2000 sienna LE; had new since 9/00 - 2000 Toyota Sienna

Fit and finish of vehicle is good. In 2002, the right sliding door developed a small rattle (something inside door) more just a nuisance. In town gas mileage is bad (around 15 mpg). Highway driving has been excellent (~25- 27 mpg). fabric is holding up well. dunlop tires arent very good for wear as Ill be needing new tire in the next 3K (currently at 45K miles). Changing oil and filter is very easy. Dual A/C works great even on the hottest days. Paint job on car is pretty average with a lot of orange peel in paint job (typical for japanese cars). Im looking at trading it in for the 2004 sienna.

  • Enjoyable to Drive - 2005 Toyota Sienna

I had a 2000 Nissan Quest before purchasing the Sienna and this van handles the road like a luxury car. I had 2 children and 5 adults in my van and it ride was smooth and roomy, best buy for the money.

  • DO NOT BUY THIS CAR! - 2004 Toyota Sienna
    By -

This car is a complete lemon. I have had so many things go wrong with this car and Toyota DOES NOT CARE. This will be the last Toyota I ever buy. The sliding door has been broken at least four times, Ive had to spend money to replace several things in the drive shaft at a cost of hundreds of dollars, things fall apart and the quality sucks.

  • Reliability Issues - 2000 Toyota Sienna
    By -

For a five year old van with relatively low mileage, our Sienna has had some serious reliability issues. In the past 12 months, weve replaced a front axle, transmission, drivers & passenger seat belts, and drivers exterior door handle. Fortunately, our dealer has gone to bat for us and the only out of pocket cost has been the $200 door handle. We also recently found out that we need a new ABS control module ($1800) and the spare tire wench wont lower the spare tire ($160). Theyve declined to cover either of these items, so weve formally appealed to corp. grievance. The first three years we loved the van, the last two have been very disappointing to say the least.

  • Say Good-by Windstar - 2003 Toyota Sienna
    By -

After the first 6mo. of ownership, no problems or areas of dissatisfaction. The engine is economical and powerfull, well built and quiet. The interior is comfortable, plenty of room and is well structured. Every seat is removable and adjustable. Windstar was larger but we like the slightly smaller size more. The plastic lower pannels on the exterior fend off rocks and road salt and make washing/waxing easier. Brakes; Seinnas brakes are smooth, sure, refined and powerfull, very un Windstar like!

  • Utility at its best - 2004 Toyota Sienna
    By -

This is a very well thought out van and you can tell Toyota payed attention to the details. They incorporated many of the best features of all other mini vans. Its things like a 60/40 rear seat thats very easy to fold, and when the seat is up there is a huge well for storage that you can easily fit several bags. It also has the best turning radius in its class which is great for parking lots and parking in general. The braking is excellent. Acceleration and handling are on par with the honda. Throw in a great price and this is one great mini van that will be tough to beat.

  • Not a home run, but at least a triple - 2005 Toyota Sienna
    By -

Our Toyota Sienna has been nearly perfect. There are a few things that annoy. Locking out the passenger windows also means the driver cant use them. There is not retained power so if you stop for minute you loose all power including radio and DVD. Maybe not a big deal but when the kids movie has to be started all over again its a pain. The engine power is great and it is very comfortable inside. You will never run out of room inside.

  • Impressed - 2006 Toyota Sienna

Coming from a Dodge Grand Caravan the total package is so far ahead that it is amazing. The acceleration, handling, fuel economy and comfort put it ahead of it competitiors. The only thing lacking is some sort of second row in floor storage (handy for storing the kids stuff). With less than 1,000 miles on it we are getting 20-22 mpg in town (in cold Wisconsin Weather) and on our first roadtrip we got 25-26mpg while doing 75-80mph (vast improvements over our dodge). The only complaint is a rattle of some sort just started right above the driver side sliding door.

  • Transition - 2004 Toyota Sienna

With my husband passing away I had to downsize from 2 vehicles to 1, a full- sized excursion van and a quad pick-up. I show dogs and did the research for interior size, safety and reliability as I am 57 years old and would be traveling by myself quite often. I also wanted a good looking vehicle.
