It was a tie between the RAV4 and the Honda CRV. My daughter, whose car this is, selected the RAV, citing that the RAV felt more like a sedan and she wanted a truck feeling plus she liked the layout of the RAV BETTER

  • 2016 Rav4 XLE AWD - 2016 Toyota RAV4

I have owned my RAV4 XLE a little over a week now and I really dont have any complaints. There was one day where the driving was a little funky, but it seems to have corrected itself now that the vehicle is adjusted to my driving style. Since that one day I have had no awkwardness while driving and find it drives very smoothly. I have no issues with accelerating, braking, etc. I have also found passengers feel it drives smoothly as well. I test drove the Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, and Subaru Forester. I preferred the driving style of the RAV4 the best. The one area for critique would be the sound system. I think the music sounds fine, but it definitely does not stand out as an amazing sound system. Sirius will also go in and out at times around areas with lots of trees. There also seems to be a sound differential when changing from Sirius to a normal FM radio station. Overall I still think the sound system is good, but I also am not a sound buff. A crisp, amazing sounding radio was not an essential factor to me. The RAV4s is more than sufficient for me. I love the looks of this vehicle. The outside looks great with the redesigned front, and I am in love with the interior. The dash is made up of a lot of soft materials, it looks very sporty and sharp. I got the Entune package with Nav on my XLE and feel it was definitely worth it. The upgraded 7in touchscreen looks perfectly fitted in the dash. I also have tinkered with the Nav system and find it more than adequate. It has not given me false directions and is easy to use. It seems to work as well as an older Garmin GPS I own. However, it will not allow you to input an address while driving unless you use voice commands. I have not tried inputting an address via voice command so I dont know how well that works. The bluetooth in the RAV4 has also worked great for me thus far. I can clearly hear the person on the other end, and have not had anyone complain about not being able to hear me clearly either. This vehicle also has great cargo capacity and tons of room. I have driven passengers in the backseat and heard no complaints about it being a tight fit. I find the seats comfortable. I did have to adjust my seat a few times after buying to get it into just the right position, but I think I finally got it there. Overall, I would definitely recommend the RAV4. For me, it was an immediate standout when I first viewed and test drove it. This was actually the last compact SUV I looked at because I was hooked from the first test drive. The RAV4 was not even on my list of potential SUVs, but the dealership was next to Honda and I decided to take a look and am really glad I did. If you are shopping for a car, Id say you should at least check the RAV4 out. I am super happy with my car purchasing experience!

  • Pretty good car (still) - 2016 Toyota RAV4

We have had the car for less than 1 month. Initially the dealership did not detail the car properly upon delivery. They made up for it a few days later. We did run into a problem with the Sirius XM. Sirius XM reset the programming 3 times. It did not fix the problem of sound cutting in and out. We will be taking the car to the dealer in a few days to examine the problem. After seven months time...we find that the cars Blue Tooth system is not completely compatible with my wifes phone (a Motorola Droid Maxx II). The Blue Tooth connection is not reinstated each time my wife enters the car. She must do this manually. It is a small thing, but paying for all of this technology and having to hassle between Toyota and Verizon and THEN find that Toyota says "sorry, they are not compatible"....gives me negative vibes. Why not investigate this stuff when you bring the product to market???? And if investigation WAS done, why not advise the customer????

There is very little I would change about this vehicle. I love the look, color, handling, and comfort. My only complaints are very few and should not be a deal killer for anyone thinking about getting one. No coin holder, left arm rest should be padded, built in blind spot mirrors should be adjustable, speakers are so so, cabin noise is a little on the loud side when driving over 80, and the Bluetooth does not do text messages. Again these are all very minor but are items That would have been icing on the cake.

  • Worst 2015 Vehicle - 2016 Toyota RAV4

My 2015 RAV4 is the 20th new car I have purchased and the worst one by far. The navigation screen is slanted so that for many hours in the morning, afternoon, and evening, it reflects sunlight directly into the drivers eyes blinding them. The center console arm rest moves forward when you brake and moves backward when you accelerate - I took it back to the dealer and they said it is working correctly - but I have never seen one move as freely as this one and I have probably driven over 100 autos with moveable console armrests. Also the armrest was leaking white grease down into the storage are below it and the dealer did nothing about it. I believe it was built with one or more of the stops that are supposed to be in the armrest to keep it from moving freely were left out during manufacture but the dealer - Fort Worth Toyota took no action to try to discover why it moves so freely. Also the speedometer reads about 4 mph high and when I took it back to Fort Worth Toyota, they overlaid a photo of a GPS speed over a laptop computer video of the speedometer and said it was accurate at 70 mph, but that is a bold faced lie. I have since talked to a number of other owners of RAV4s and they also have the inaccurate speedometers going all the way back to the 2008 RAV4. If the speedometer is reading high, it is probably also recording mileage driven as 4 miles high which probably helps them advertise that their vehicles get better gas mileage than the really do. The US justice department should look into this as this is another example of what Volkswagen did with their diesel engines. The width of the windshield supports on each side of the car and the way they are angled create very large blind spots making it hard to see coming vehicles when you are turning either right or left. The clock is angled up and is partially shielded from view by the navigation screen and is really small so it cant be seen most of the time. Also the display in the instrument panel where they show the temperature is extremely small and almost unusuable. To make a long story short, I will never buy another Toyota as this is the worst vehicle I have ever owned and I would encourage others to not buy Toyotas either as their maintenance department is terrible and will not attempt to try to fix problems with their cars.

Consumers Reports gives this car a "Recommended" and I totally agree. Although it is not on par with a $50k luxury SUV, it is a good, solid, comfortable car. For the money, I think you would have a hard time finding anything comparable. Ive only put 500 miles on the car since I bought it, but it seems to handle very well, and has plenty of pep for freeway driving and passing. If the long-term reliability meets Toyotas legendary standard, then it will be one heck of a great buy.500

  • A Disappointing First Toyota - 2016 Toyota RAV4

We had driven Subaru Legacies for a few years and after test driving several small SUVs we bought a 2016 Toyota RAV4 LE AWD in March 2016. However after a year of driving it we have noticed the following shortcomings: • Gas mileage is not that good-sticker says 22/29 and we have never come close. We are lucky to get 25 mpg on a highway trip. • The hood is so rounded that you cannot see the front of the car and thus never know if you are far enough into a parking space and it is difficult to keep centered in your lane. • The roof is so rounded that snow falls on the seat every time you open the door. • The back window is tiny and so rounded in every direction that you cannot clean it with a squeegee. • The gas gauge is highly inaccurate-says empty when you have more than a quarter of a tank. (Both analog and digital readout) • The huge emergency brake takes up so much of the center console which is probably the reason there are so few inside storage compartments • The radio fades in and out (toyota keeps saying they can fix it, but never do) • Lots of road noise It does handle as well as the Subaru in the snow but the bottom line is that we will probably go back to Subaru very soon.

The vehicle grows on me every time I drive it. I love the styling, the performance and the overall comfort. The rear seats recline which is nice for my grandsons when we are returning from skiing. Sport mode is quicker, but I have found the performance in Eco mode more than adequate. I am averaging about 26mpg and I use the gas pedal freely. The entertainment/navigation has a fairly sharp learning curve, but the dealership employs a guy to come to your house and show you exactly how to use it and once you learn to operate the navigation it works great! If you want a sportier SUV then maybe this is not for you, but I will trade a little sportiness for a quiet, comfortable ride all day long. I would have bought the LE but I like Alloy wheels which were not available on the LE, but it turns out I like the features that come with the XLE a lot!
