This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota's mini-SUV receives just a couple cosmetic changes this year. Models ordered with the Quick Order package now have gray-painted bumpers and overfenders, and Toyota has added color-keyed bumpers and overfenders to the "L" package. There are also three new L package colors: Rainforest Pearl, Spectra Blue Mica and Pearl White (Natural White and Vintage Gold have been discontinued).

Pros:
  • Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful cabin design, well-built interior.
Cons:
  • No V6 engine option, noisy, most desirable equipment is optional.

  • Great Car but horrible seats - 2002 Toyota RAV4
    By -

I love my Rav4 with the exception of the seats. Toyota really skimped on the comfort factor. The seats are not supportive and feel like they are made out of foam. Other than that I have never had ANY problems with my RAV4. It is the most reliable car I have ever had. Great storage, especially with the large pack "trunk". Handles great, has a great turn radius. Easy to drive but it could definitely use more torque going on hill and passing cars on the freeway. In the next couple of months I am looking to sell my RAV4 and I am looking at Lexus and Acura. The number one feature I am looking for are ergonomic seats and dash board placement which the RAV4 certainly does not have.

  • Unsurpassed Quality - 2002 Toyota RAV4

Well optioned 4x4, L package, power door locks/windows/moonroof. Looks very sporty, recieved several compliments. I bought it for the wife, I wasnt fond of cute-utes. Fell in love with it after first 100 miles. Unbelievably stable, even in 35 mile cross winds.

  • 2002 RAV4 5spd - 2002 Toyota RAV4

Bought new in 2002. 5spd Stick, original clutch still going strong at 100000+... oil changed regularly, front brakes once, tires once, wiper blades, a couple of light bulbs... THATs IT! Terrific little wagon!!! Best vehicle Ive ever owned. Check Engine Light came on after about a year, reprogramming of the module was done at no cost and has never come on since! Id definitely buy another!!!

  • As much Sport as Utility - 2002 Toyota RAV4
    By -

My mom bought a 2002 Rav4 in Nov, 2001, after weeks of research. Since then, it has continued to impress us, not only in its performace, but also in the utility and comfort. The only thing we have not been able to fit in was a 56" cabinet; even then, it was only 2 inches too long! The only reason (take note!) that I am not rating it as a perfect 10 is that my car is a 1982 RX- 7, which is a pure sports car. For some one who drives a minivan, itll be a blast!

  • The Safety Factor - 2002 Toyota RAV4
    By -

I have a 2001 RAV4. Last Wednesday night, my brother had an accident on the freeway - he ran headfirst into the center divider doing 70 MPH and walked away without a scratch. If you are looking for a reliable, safe car that gets good gas mileage then the RAV4 is a great vehicle.

  • Who need a Huge SUV? - 2002 Toyota RAV4
    By -

This has been a great purchase. There is plenty of room inside. Shortly after purchasing the car, I loaded up my wife, two kids, a cocker spaniel, a llasa apso and a rabbit and set off on a 750 mile trip for Christmas at Grandmas. The RAV4 handled the roof top carrier much better than the Olds Bravada I had had before. I never felt as though the RAV4 was unstable. Even loaded down I managed 27 mpg.

  • Little worker. - 2002 Toyota RAV4

Comfortable for passengers even carrying four 6 adults. Solid build, reliable. A little underpowered, but adequate. Highly fuel efficient _for_ an SUV. Great traction in light to moderate snow.

  • Not so good Toyota - 2002 Toyota RAV4

Rough ride, extremely noisy - cannot hear radio or people talk on the road, uncomfortable, cannot see the dashboard from the steering wheel, hard to fold/remove rear seats, not enough power/fade-out on hills.

  • *BEWARE* - 2002 Toyota RAV4
    By -

Loved this car at first, started getting a lot of wind noise, and noise from rear, had it looked at, but found nothing. Now, with only 120,000 miles on it, it started slipping. Had it checked and transmission is gone, of course its past warranty, plus the ECM (engine control module) would also need to be replaced, costing me $4,800.00.

  • 1st Time Toyota Buyer - 2002 Toyota RAV4

Traded a 2000 Jeep Wrangler in on this vehicle. Let me say, really impressed with the RAV-4 all around. Nice to get out of a gas hog and into something with better gas mileage. Love the handling, and the 4 cyl. gives my wife and I enough power that we need. Wont win a muscle car contest, but enough to get the job done. I believe that we will become loyal Toyota owners.
