This Year's Model Updates:

Already sporty-looking, the RAV4 compact SUV gets even sportier thanks to a new optional sport package that adds a new grille, a hood scoop, color-keyed door handles, heated exterior mirrors, tubular roof rack and gray-painted bumpers and overfenders. Inside, the package adds special sport fabric seats.

Pros:
  • Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful cabin design, well-built interior.
Cons:
  • Small displacement engine for the class, noisy, most of the desirable equipment is optional.

  • Pleased With my RAV4 - 2003 Toyota RAV4

My RAV4 has been good to me since I bought it in June. I traded in my 2001 Honda Civic (which I liked) for maintenance and utility reasons. I do my own basic maintenance so being able to get under the vehicle is key. Now Im also able to haul larger objects in the back and I am able to tow a jet ski which wasnt possible with the Civic. With the RAV4, Im able to have a better gas mileage (relative to other SUVs).

  • Shame on Toyota - 2003 Toyota RAV4

Our Toyota 2003 Rav4 was very nice. My husband did all the oil changes, rotating tires, brakes and any other kind of maintenance on car. It was fine until about a week ago and our transmission started acting up. We took it to a transmssion shop and they said to replace transmission at $5000. We decided to check out reviews on the internet and found out we werent the only ones with this problem. I use to trust toyota, but now I feel betrayed. They knew about it and didnt tell the consumer. Besides their Gas pedal problems now they are recalling not the RAV4s, but 2003 Sequoilas. This is for that cars transmission. Go figure ! Im going to Honda now!

  • RAV4 rates #1 for me!!! - 2003 Toyota RAV4

This is my first Toyota. Let me list all the things I like about my RAV: it is easy to get into (not as tall as other SUVs), easier to see over the hood while driving, the back door swings from the side, the versatility and configurations of the back seats, the gas mileage, its pretty looks (definitely a girls car), the short radius for turning, the brakes stopping on a dime. This is all that comes to mind, although I know there must be more regarding the motor and things like that. I believe this will be my last vehicle for many years to come.

  • This Is My Car - 2003 Toyota RAV4

So far my RAV4 has been extremely pleasant to drive, easy to maneuver, and very reliable. I purchased this as my "dream car"-the one I always wanted, and I have not been disappointed, as we often are when we buy something we thought would be better than it is. The easily removable rear seats have made it perfect for taking my dogs camping, and I always have plenty of room for anything I need. I have moved my entire apartment (including all normal furniture, such as bed and sofa) twice in this "little" car. Im exceptionally pleased with it.

  • Transmission Problems...dont buy! - 2003 Toyota RAV4
    By -

I bought my Rav4 new in 2003. It now has 156,000 miles on it, and the transmission needs replaced. I discovered the problem after trying to merge into traffic with sluggish acceleration. After researching online and reading other reviews on here, these problems are due to a faulty ECM. Toyota extended the warranty to 20 years or 150,000 miles. Of course, my car is 6000 miles over the warranty. Now were stuck with a $5000 repair. Sure, I drove my car for 156,000 miles, but Toyota built their reputation on reliability. I expected to drive this car another 50,000 miles. Dont trust Toyota. Their only concern is their bottom line, not the safety of their customer.

  • Fun, Reliable, Well Built - 2003 Toyota RAV4

I have had almost no problems with my 3 year old RAV 4 after 3 years and more than 60.000 miles. Had a slight rattle on the glove compartment when almost new, easily fixed by a great Toyota dealer service. Mechanically, no problems whatsoever. Also no problems with body or interior components. Only complaint is interior sound insulation which is not "Wrangler- terrible" but could certainly be improved. Some improvement after getting new Michelin highway tires. The engine has good power delivery and reserve for typical use. Highway behavior is excellent and handles more like a sedan. However do not expect the acceleration and torque that comes with much bigger but less fuel effic SUVs

  • Great SUV - 2003 Toyota RAV4

Great handling and very stable on the road. Would have liked a rear bumper, but that can be purchased aftermarket fairly cheap.

  • Excellent Car for people in their 20s!!! - 2003 Toyota RAV4

Very reliable car. Not a lot of space in the backseat, but nice trunk and very comfy in the front. Because it is only 4 cylinders, car is does not go up steep hills very fast. Not good for racing, but fuel economy is excellent (same as a sedan)!

  • Best Yet - 2003 Toyota RAV4

With a new house I wanted a pre-runner so I could haul things for projects, but it wouldnt fit in my garage so I went with the RAV4 and Ive never regretted it. Yeah I cant haul 4x8 sheets of plywood around, but just about everything else. Its been a lot of fun to drive on vacation and business trips (especially with XM on board). From the moment I bought this I knew it was the right vehicle for me. And with gas prices soaring, its 29 MPG is smart.

Vehicle has been great. the gas mileage is good,HOWEVER I have to fill the gas tank as much as my 02 Suburban! The reason for this is because of the very small tank.
