Overview & Reviews
Toyota's mini-SUV receives just a couple cosmetic changes this year. Models ordered with the Quick Order package now have gray-painted bumpers and overfenders, and Toyota has added color-keyed bumpers and overfenders to the "L" package. There are also three new L package colors: Rainforest Pearl, Spectra Blue Mica and Pearl White (Natural White and Vintage Gold have been discontinued).
- Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful cabin design, well-built interior.
- No V6 engine option, noisy, most desirable equipment is optional.

Auto transmission defect - 2002 Toyota RAV4
By JKT - June 9 - 5:06 pm129,000 care-free miles and THEN transmission failure with an incredible lack of consideration by Toyota. ECU/ECM (computer module of automatic transmission) failure leading to destruction of tranny. Will cost $4- 5000 and Toyota has been aware of this via TSB (technical service bulletin) since 2006. Affecting years 2001-2003 with automatic. If your get a RAV-4 make sure its got STICK!

I love my Rav4 not ever getting rid of i - 2002 Toyota RAV4
By Pamela - June 1 - 2:10 pmI have 2 cars, but this is the one I use to go on long trips, out of state etc. You cant beat it for bringing kids and a dog, ice chest and suit cases, not to mention I can get from Nashville,TN. to New Orleans, LA. on 1 tank of gas!! Of course I take good care of my Rav, I get all the oil changes and 60 point inspections etc. You can not beat this car for comfort and economy.

Cockroach - 2002 Toyota RAV4
By isnide23 - March 17 - 12:57 pmI am the 3rd owner. bought it with 60k miles. right now it has 150k miles. all I have done is changed oil and tires. It has been on rough dirt roads, countless snowstorms and numerous road trips of 1000+ miles. I have driven the piss out of this car and taken it on dirt roads it probably should have stayed away from. Toyota knows how to make a reliable motor and powertrain. There is a reason Toyota dominates other companies on reliability. This vehicle is a cockroach that refused to slow down.

I love my Toyota Rav4!!! - 2002 Toyota RAV4
By elefante - February 28 - 10:00 amHave only had the Rav for a month now but we LOVE it after a Dodge Caravan. Much better handling and reliability. Smooth handling. Sure-footed on slippery roads. Nice mileage. Lots of room. Love the adjustable front drivers seat. Acceleration on highway might seem slow for a few seconds but suddenly youre there and going at top speed.

Amazing car until the ecm went - 2002 Toyota RAV4
By tha dude - December 10 - 11:23 amand your ecm WILL mess up your transmission... i wasted money on a new transmission and was told my ecm got reprogrammed but it still does the same stuff to me. its pretty scary when u drive across a four way and your car slows down and drags while youre inside being jerked around. will never buy a toyota EVER again. now im looking into other cars..... makes me mad because the car was perfect until this.

Watch out for minor annoyances - 2002 Toyota RAV4
By T_Sport - November 30 - 10:00 amProblems: The 3-spoke steering wheel doesnt move down nearly enough to get a comfortable grip. If you like to drive, holding one hand or both on the bottom spokes, you will NOT like the Rav4 steering wheel. The other major flaw with the car is the pathetically weak factory stereo. My car had the upgraded stereo which results in two more useless paper tweeter speakers. Unfortunately, at this time, Crutchfield doesnt support the 2002/2001 Rav4, so speaker upgrades are tough. I replaced the factory head unit with a Sony unit which resulted in more power but ZERO bass, and distortion above 30% power. If you love good music, buy a Nissan.

GOOD CAR FOR SHORT PEOPLE - 2002 Toyota RAV4
By MARK SCHOLZ - November 25 - 10:00 amIS MY WIFES CAR, SHE LOVES IT AND I DONT MIND IT. ACCELERATION IS SLUGGISH UNLESS YOU FLOOR IT THEN IT TAKES OFF. WE HAVE DRIVEN IT TO FLORIDA 3 TIMES (3000MILES) AND I WAS VERY COMFORTABLE (63") MY ONLY COMPLAINTS ARE; PASSENGER POWER MIRROR HAS LIMITED ADJUSTABILITY CANT PUT IT HIGH ENOUGH TO SEE WELL. WIND NOISE FROM WINDSHIELD AT 65 MPH AND ABOVE. i PUT A K+N FILTER ON IT WHICH HELPED MILEAGE AND PERFORMANCE. WE AVERAGE 24 MPG CITY AND HIGHWAY. 28MPG IS THE BEST WEVE SEEN (4X4 AUTO) WHEN I DRIVE I GET ABOUT 23 MPG ON THE HIGHWAY DOING WELL OVER 65. DONT BOTHER WITH THE ANTILOCK BRAKES, YOU DONT NEED THEM. NOTHING HAS BROKE. HAPPY WITH QUALITY

Love the Rav! - 2002 Toyota RAV4
By oneknightonly - September 11 - 10:00 amGreat handling - I love being up a little higher that in a car but yet still having the "drive" of a car. It is extremly well built - love the looks and would definetly recommend it to everyone!
