This Year's Model Updates:

Already sporty-looking, the RAV4 compact SUV gets even sportier thanks to a new optional sport package that adds a new grille, a hood scoop, color-keyed door handles, heated exterior mirrors, tubular roof rack and gray-painted bumpers and overfenders. Inside, the package adds special sport fabric seats.

Pros:
  • Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful cabin design, well-built interior.
Cons:
  • Small displacement engine for the class, noisy, most of the desirable equipment is optional.

  • An excellent vehicle - 2003 Toyota RAV4

We owned this car for 12 years and it was as trouble-free as a vehicle could be. Basically, you never had to worry about something going wrong. Driver vision was excellent and seating was comfortable. We took it on four around-the-country trips and never had a problem other than a flat tire.

We just turned in my wifes Honda Civic and got her this car. So far, its nice...it feels so much "lighter" than the Civic which is strange...perhaps because its new? Its rather noisy. Toyota should have done a better job smoothing out this car. For the money, it should be more comfortable and quieter...but as with other SUV makers, the consumer is dumb enough to pay premium for a primitive vehicle (SUVs are trucks that are hugely overpriced). The dealer took us for a ride on the alarm system but screw it, our time and sanity is more important than a few hundred dollars here and there. Time will tell how the car holds up...so well see.

  • RAV4 is Great! - 2003 Toyota RAV4

I love my RAV4. I cannot say enough good about it. The fit and finish is excellent, performance is good and ride is good. I test drove the CRV and there is no comparison. The CRV felt and looked cheap and the controls were awkward.

  • Fun to drive but under powered - 2003 Toyota RAV4

I considered a Honda CRx and the Rav4. I bought the RAV4 because of the better looks and handling. They both need more power. My 1993 Honda prelude SI is much quicker, with 160 vs 148 on the Rav4. Mileage is about the same 23 overall. The RAV4 is much more comfortable and has 4 wheel drive, needed in WI in the winter.

  • AWESOME! - 2003 Toyota RAV4

I love my RAV4-L! The way it handles and the quiet ride are a great selling point. I love the 4WD, fog lights, and the design inside and out. Everyone at work has complimented it and my family and friends love it too. This is my second Toyota and I know its going to be as great as my first Toyota.

  • The number 1 SUV - 2003 Toyota RAV4

I have owned other Ravs in the past, but this one is the best. The exterior styling is excellent, and the gas mileage is superb. The engine is fine for hauling people and even passing on the highway. Also, the handling is excellent, and it is very secure on the turns.

Vehicle is ideal for short person like me. I need to be up higher and closer to controls, which are same as Camry. Ride not as comfortable as Camry but fun. Concern about lack of rear bumper. Brakes not as responsive as Camry.Am happy with my choice.

I just purchased a 2003 pre-owned RAV4 after owning a 4Runner Sport V8 for over 8 years. I loved my 4Runner and hated to sell it, but it was time to "downsize" to something smaller with better gas mileage. I couldnt be happier!! After one week, I still cant wait to drive it the next day. Its the perfect size for me and fun to drive. I love the large front windshield visibility, tight steering, and turning radius. I look forward to owning this RAV4 for a long long time!! Im a Toyota fan forever!

  • Good car; not for family - 2003 Toyota RAV4

I drive a 99 Camry and love it, so when we has our first child and my wife needed a vehicle to replace her 94 accord coupe we went with Toyota. The RAV (sprt pkg)is sharp looking. We now have two kids, and it has become very cramped. We have had the car for a little over a year now and have had the ck eng light on for most of that time due to a failing cat converter, though weve not had any trouble yet. We also had to replace the main computer because it was causing the tran to slip- Toyota covered this pricey repair at no cost to us (thank you!), despite the fact that we are not the original owner and it is outside the orig warranty.
