Overview & Reviews
For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.
- Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
- Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

Toyota has indeed hit a home run! - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Penny - June 9 - 6:03 amI had been waiting many years for a fuel efficient vehicle to come along. Id seen the SmartCars in Europe and wanted something comparable to find its way to the US. What I found is the the Prius. The quality, comfort and reliability of the Toyota has always been well known. They have brought it all together beautifully in the Prius. The car handles so well, Ive driven it on mountain roads and it hugs the curves like a champ. I drive mostly around my home and it has no problem at all keeping up with any car on the road. I get an average of 45 MPG in my everyday driving and dont have to fill the tank more than once or twice a month. I would recommend this car to anyone and everyone.

Ya Gotta Love It! - 2005 Toyota Prius
By A Long Time Waiting - June 7 - 10:00 amIve waited over three years to purchase my Prius (was waiting for an old accident to clear from my record) and it was well worth the wait. EVERYTHING that others have told me about the Prius is true. Its fun to drive, handles beautifully, and is extremely comfortable. Did I mention that its really fun to drive!?! The features mounted on the steering wheel are absolutely wonderful.

By aevans - June 7 - 10:00 amThe 2004 modole has a lot of cargo space.I have gotten a large shopping cart of groceries in the back and still had room. Rides great, handles the crosswind great. (you dont get blown off the road). We have been getting an adv. of 56 to 58 miles to the gallon in fuel.

Cant get enough of it - 2005 Toyota Prius
By omigosh - May 22 - 2:53 pmAcceleration is thrilling. 300 ft/lbs of torque from the electric motor (added to the engine power) is available immediately - not like the wind it up til it screams and then it finally moves out with just an engine. When moving slowly, on electric only, its so quiet I end up sneaking up behind pedestrians - they never hear a thing. Driving downhill in the mountains, beside a mountain stream, we could hear the water babbling. Very nice! The DVD navigation is just like having a local in the back seat, giving directions. Some buildings are labeled, mostly shopping centers, schools, govt buildings, etc. I drive 75mph to work, get 50MPG. In stop & go, 60MPG. A total delight to drive.

Better Than Advertised - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Recent Owner - April 12 - 8:46 amThe Prius has been even better than expected. It has the gas mileage but it also has a great ride, better than the Civic, which I love. It is extremely comfortable and very roomy. The quality and innovations make this car a lot of fun to drive. The space age display that informs you of your immediate miles per gallon etc. brings out the competitive spirit in you to achieve even greater accomplishments in fuel ecconomy. This leads to safer driving etc. The car would be excellent without the gas mileage benefit. You certainly have enough pep when you need it. Reports indicate the gas mileage is less than the EPA numbers. However, so far Im getting 56 total mile per gallon.

Greatest thing since sliced bread - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Ron - April 4 - 12:10 amI have 64K miles and have only replaced tires & wiper blades. I average 52 MPG, mostly driven at 50-55 mph. There is a learning curve to getting good MPG. I use the cruise control all the time, even in city driving. It works down to 24 MPH! Consistent speed is the key. The ride and handling is great. Fun car to drive. Im getting another this year.

Toyota Prius-a great car - 2005 Toyota Prius
By sivaram - April 3 - 2:16 amvery comfortable, smooth and reliable. Good power and very good acceleration. Excellent gas mileage. Everything about this car is great except for two things- The shape of the car could have been better. The navigation is very very disappointing- very user UN-friendly compared to Honda Navigation annd Magellan Roadmate.
