This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

I enjoy driving this car, and even more so now that gas has gotten so expensive. The interior design is such that there are plenty of storage areas... about the only thing this car lacks, which I would choose to have, is a sun roof.

I have driven this car from Eastern Iowa to central CO where I now live. We dont gas up until Kearney, NE and not again until be arrive home (over 900 miles). Just drove to WI and averaged over 50 mpg. If it is very windy that will be slightly lower. Have put bicycles and camping gear in the back. The orig. tires werent so hot so now it has Nokians which are great going up snowy mountains and hills without a problem. Everyone who rides in it is impressed by its quality + comfort. They are amazed by how many miles I get on one tank. Wouldnt have anything else and will get another in one or two years.

Currently getting 46-47 mpg. 90% highway driving. The vehicle has operated flawlessly during the two months that I have had it. I am concerned about the stalling issue but the dealership has said that the problem is with earlier models.

We absolutely love this car so much that we only use our other car about once a month. This car is so SMOOTH and easy to drive that the great gas mileage (50mpg in summer and 46 in winter) is just a bonus. Plus it has way more space inside than you would think just by looking at it. We can fit 2 people, 2 mountain bikes, a cooler, and lots of camping gear in the back and still see out of the back window. Another great feature is the keyless entry and start button (see below). Also, both my wife and I agree that driving a PRIUS reduces your stress level while driving (its quiet and variable transmission is SMOOTH) and at the pump. All other cars now seem primitive compared to the Prius.

When gas prices went higher and higher, I bought a diesel truck. Then those fuel prices went up too. For the first time I considered buying a hybrid car and decided on the Prius. I couldnt be happier and am a very proud owner of a hybrid. And I live in a oil/gas producing area where the bigger the better, and not too many people are fond of the hybrids. But this little car as done a great job!

The Prius is a pleasire to drive. It handles very well. The only things I dont like are the rear vision window is too small and has a horizontal streak across it. Also, the windshield wiper control is barely visible because the steering wheel blocks the view to it,

Others can give technical reviews - I will just say I drive a LOT (36k/yr) and switched from a GS300 Lexus (sports sedan) to the Prius, and it has been wonderful! Excellent mileage is a given (45-47 on all roads, all weather). I drive faster than I should so slowing down would eke out 3-4 more mpg. Interior is very well-designed. Displays are different from American cars, much more efficient and user- friendly, and the display info is amazing. NO REPAIRS YET at 105,000 miles!! I have had many cars and all needd repairs before 100k miles, except the Prius. Of course I needed new tires, oil changes, maintenance. Handles well, easy to turn/park, love the hatchback.

Thhe Prius has much more room than I expected. The rear seat passengers have more leg room than a 767 coach row! With the rear seats folded, I can carry longer items than I can in my 1992 Trooper, although not as high. The more I drive it the more I like it. I have kept accurate fuel data since new and the overall average is 43.5 MPG. On the highway (flat, no wind) the computer is steady at 51.3 MPG. I have not had the opportunity to drive in urban conditions, but on hilly back roads I have seen over 75 MPG!

great mileage, get up and go, sound system, quiet on road -- I commute 60 miles to work in SCAL -- what a benefit to get in carpool lane and save $$$. Touch screen and keyless operation are coolest parts. Front seat is uncomfortable but all else is A++
