Overview & Reviews
For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.
- Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
- Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

Gadget fun - 2005 Toyota Prius
By notsomuchgas - November 27 - 2:16 amA lot has been written about the fuel efficiency and the futuristic look of the car. But what took me by suprise was the fun of "trying to be fuel efficient" and the computer display (map and energy use). I was a foot to the floor sports car driver that loved the roar of the engine. I thought I was giving up that thrill; only to have it replaced with the video-game-like challenge of trying to achieve the highest MPG score. Strange but its turn practical in to an unexpected fun.

2004 Toyota Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Jim Bowen - November 7 - 10:40 amGreat car! Fuel consumption varies with driver. 16 year old driver gets 40 MPG city, 54 yr.old gets 52 MPG . Steering on highway a little wayward, requiring more corrections than our Volvo wagen. Front driver seat does not go far back enough for 6+ drivers. Brakes take a little getting used to. Visibility excellent. Plenty of power for a mid- sized auto. Super quiet with very little road noise. Tons of rear seat room. Drivetrain feels the same as any other.

More Options Needed/Design Comment - 2005 Toyota Prius
By 4 Dr STD Hatchback - October 19 - 11:43 pmThis is an excellent car for saving energy. I do not care for the rear window view obstructions... I do find them distracting. Never achieved the 60mpg as claimed. I have averaged barely 45mpg. It would be nice to have an option of a moonroof. Other than that, an excellent purchase.

LOVE This Car! - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Karen - October 6 - 9:40 amThis is my favorite car EVER! It has just as much cargo space as my old Honda CRV (maybe even more USABLE space because the back seats fold down completely flat). Ive been getting 48 mpg with next to no change in my driving habits and driving it is just a blast. I swear it seems like it had better traction in the snow than my all-wheel drive CRV. Its very comfortable and all the steering wheel controls make adjusting volume, temperature etc. a cinch and you dont have to take your hands off the steering wheel. The sound system cranks so while Im sitting in stop and go traffic burning no gas I can jam and enjoy myself. All cars should be this environmentally friendly and fun to drive!

2005 Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Chuck - October 1 - 6:50 pmThe Prius has much more acceleration than youd think from a 1.5 liter engine. The seats could be less firm. As much as I travel each year, seat comfort is crucial. The gas mileage is fun to watch on the big screen in the console. Before I purchased this car I was an agressive driver, but now I find myself trying to get the best MPG I can which means slowing down and driving much smoother. It is very stable on the highway even with cross winds and has a very solid feel to it. There is some road noise from the wheels but it is much quieter than most that Ive driven.

Coveting thy Daughters car - 2005 Toyota Prius
By pacrat - September 26 - 11:30 amI bought this prius for my daughter who was going bananas over it,i didt think much about it since I had a 2002 Beetle Gls that I thought I was getting decent milage with it, until I spent a week driving the Prius. To put it in a nutshell, the dashboard took some getting used too,the gps had a few bugs in it that the dealership fixed but, the interior was spacious for a car this size, the sound system was great and the pickup wasnt too shabby. Also, the transistion from electric to gas engine was seamless and lastly, the display that monitors your gas milage almost challenged you to see what your best mpg was. I think Im trading in the VW for a prius of my own. Its a blast to drive!!!
