This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

Yes the car gets great mileage and puts out near zero emissions but what you enjoy every day is the quiet. You get out of the car feeling more rested than when you entered. It is the first car in 30 years that I appreciate every time I use it

I only have 1,700 miles on the car. Love it, but not getting the milage I was told I would get. So far getting between 35 & 40 miles per gallon. The car is awesome, but would like getting better mileage since this is the reason I purchased this car.

The most satisfying part is sitting at light or motionless in jam knowing the engine is using ZERO FUEL, and creature comforts are taken care of by the big battery. Fify plus MPG helps too. On road mileage remains to be seen when we take our first non-local trip. My guess is that it will be in mid fiftys and if we see sixty it would be great. The display shows instant fuel use. Auto reset on tank fill for current consumption. Amazing info on this screen. Finally it is a unique speedometer display placement. Well shielded and illuminated it is far enough away to not need bifocals and still be small eye motion from road.

We have driven this car on Interstates in Florida and it is an amazing vehicle - fun to drive, head-turning, roomy on inside, seats higher than previous model. We sold a full-size Bronco to get this car and have not missed the Bronco at all. The split back seat makes it easy to carry large items. The car is a dream. Thanks TOYOTA!

Second owner. Extremely reliable. Driven for 82K miles, Has 217K miles now. Package 6 nearly all available options installed. Except for three necessary repairs (HID headlight leveling sensor, HV inverter electric water pump, and gasoline engine water pump) no mechanical problems. Uses a quart of oil every 3000 miles or less depending on average speed driven. Traction battery still works. Every light, switch, sensor, etc still function. Original brakes and suspension. Fuel tank capacity varies considerably with ambient temp. Only holds about 8 gallons when temp is less than 20 deg F and holds about 11 gallons when temp is over 80 deg F. Road noise an issue on concrete hwys.

I bought my Prius for environmental reasons and have been very pleasantly surprised to find out that she is a VERY responsive/fun car to drive and also has great carrying capacity for her size due to the 5-door fold-down seat configuration. My complaints are minor - the most significant being that there is too much on the steering column "sticks" and that the wheel sometimes blocks them and second,I have yet to find a good use for the console - I guess I need to expand my CD collection. Everyone asks me about her. By the way, I got mine while Julia Roberts was still waiting - unfortunately she was not open to deals. BUY ONE!

Very happy with the Prius. Im a big guy and find it very comfortable. Generally getting about 49-50 MPG. Now have about 7000 miles on the car. Have found NO problems or defects. Ride is a bit harsh but one would expect that in a small car. Also, it gets pushed around a bit by the wind. Preformance is very good. Continuous diplay of MPG probably helps me achieve better fuel economy.

  • Nice Car!! - 2005 Toyota Prius

I really enjoy this car! There are a few things that could be better. The rear view dimmer mirror is nice when cars are far away, but when they get close as the often do, the mirror does not dim. There is one feature that doesn’t make sense. If you are going down the road and listening to the radio, in the console there is a button that says there is a message, and when you go to push it to see it, there is a message that comes up that says that you can’t view the message while driving! I really enjoy the great gas mileage. I have seen my average say 57 before, which was great for going up and down 2 mountains one way to work. The car is a bit expensive, but great otherwise.
