  • Moonstone Dashboard is Glaringly Bright - 2016 Toyota Prius
    By -

I have been waiting for the 2016 Prius in hopes of buying one. I test drove one, and the dashboard was so brightly colored that it hurt my eyes. I dont like black interiors so I dont know what to buy now since these are the only 2 options. I hope that the dashboard color can be toned down to the color of the older models. My 2011 Prius with the gray interior is perfect. It would also be good to have fog lights on Prius 2 models. They are only available on the Touring 3 and 4 models.

  • Great looks, Great Car - 2016 Toyota Prius

So Ive owned hybrids for quite a while -- mostly various Prius generations. My 2005 Prius was an absolute workhorse -- never an issue. I decided to try a 2013 Ford C-Max, and the thing was in the shop *every single month* since the moment I bought it (sold it 8 months later). When the 2016 Prius became available, I was really torn. I love the look of the Chevy Volt, the ability to plug it in, and all the features it has over the Prius (remote start, parking assist), but reading reviews for the 2016 and 2017 were shaky at best. I test drove a couple of them, and although they were quiet and responsive, they had a few cons as well, and I just couldnt bring myself to spend that much money on something that doesnt have a proven track record for reliability. So, I test drove the Prius 4, with technology package. Although the acceleration isnt meant for drag racing, the car is pretty quiet, and it is such a smooth ride. Brakes are leaps and bounds better than the Volt -- seriously. I read a lot of reviews on the 2016 from other Prius owners, claiming theyre getting in the high 50s, and that Toyota really underestimated the MPG this time. Let me just say... I do NOT drive like a grandma, Ive been in Normal mode the entire time, and over 600 miles later, its showing Im averaging 64 mpg. I thought, "No way!" My husband also has a 2013 Prius, and his just barely gets 50mpg. First fill up (over 500 miles later), I double checked, and its 100% accurate -- 64mpg. Between the reliability and the gas mileage -- I absolutely adore my Prius!

With the eco trim. No spare tire. Guess I have to watch tire condition to avoid tire problems or keep AAA on speed dial if I have a tire problem

  • Unexpected Great Buy - 2016 Toyota Prius

This car is fun to drive. There is a visibility issue. It a very smooth ride and handles well. This isnt a sports car so the acceleration isnt there but it has a power mode. Also, there no privacy in the trunk. You can see the entire trunk from the outside. I bought a large bin for this. Otherwise, the more I drive it, the more in love I am. I keep discovering cool techie things. Plus its a cool looking car. Love the lights. I didnt buy it because it was a hybrid. I bought it because it was cool. The hybrid was just extra.

  • Best Car I Have Ever Owned - 2016 Toyota Prius
    By -

I took one test drive and knew this was the car for me. Several years ago we drove a Prius hybrid rental and liked it, but it wasnt anything special. As soon as I started driving the 2016 Prius I was enjoying the ride, even in rush hour traffic. It handled easily, provided a smooth ride, easily kept pace with traffic, both slow and fast and was quiet. I bought it that night. The gas mileage is exceeding what I was expecting for combined street and highway driving. Even my husband can drive it. He is 6 5" and the joke has always been we had to try on cars rather than picking the one we wanted, we had to take the one that he could get into whether it was comfortable or not. Even with the moon roof, his head does not bump the top of the car. I can get 3 dog kennels in the back and still have room for luggage. AND it also fits into our garage even with the full size van, freezer and storage in the front part of the garage.

  • Pros and Cons of a Toyota Prius V - 2016 Toyota Prius
    By -

Pros of the Toyota Prius V: I purchased the 2012 Prius V (5) The space is terrific for families or active persons. The hatch back has fantastic room, I put the back seats down and pack boogie boards, surfboards, a bike or even a piece of furniture I purchased from the store. Love the back seat leg room. My family is tall and have long legs, the room is comfortable for them and the shoulder room is also. Love the technology, I have had no problems with the car in the 4.5 yrs I owned it. This car is great on gas !! I previously owned a van because i needed the space but the gas was like another car payment, With my van i spent about $425.00 per month on gas verses with the Prius V I only spend $70.00 !!! That is a huge savings and I can still fit the things I need in the Prius V. DOWNSIDE OR CONS: THE PRIUS V IS VERY NOISY ON THE HIGHWAY. WE HAVE TO SPEAK LOUDLY TO HEAR EACH OTHER. IT IS NOT A QUIET RIDE. VERY UNFORTUNATE.

  • Best Prius so far - 2016 Toyota Prius

update - Oct 29, 2016 - 10,600 miles on the car and Im still delighted with it. Mileage has averaged 62 mpg -- by actual measurement, which is about 3 mph lower than the dash readout. My daily commute is 60% highway and 40% local roads but not much bumper to bumper. I always drive in ECO and drive sedately but at or above speed limit and definitely not hypermile-ing. No mechanical problems with the car. Still like the same features as in the original review - esp great headlights, comfy interior, enough power, great but touchy brakes, and esp love the rear cross traffic alert, the auto braking, and other driver tech package features. Original review: I have 2600 miles on a 2016 Prius Four. I have previously owned a 2007 Prius and currently still own a 2012 Prius, which my son now drives. Though Ive been hugely satisfied with the previous generations, this 4th gen Prius is even better. The gas mileage is averaging 60-62 mpg over the 2600 miles by actual measurement (not via the electronic read-out which is about 2.5 mpg higher). I dont accelerate or brake hard but I drive at or above the speed limit. My commute is 60% highway 40% city driving. The car accelerates a little faster than the previous gen. I got both the Advanced Tech package and the deluxe equipment package. The interior is very nice though not Lexus luxury. Great JBL sound system. Power driver seat with excellent power lumbar. The nav touchscreen is large and is not washed out in bright sun light. Speedo etc is not located so much differently than previous generations and is easy to adjust to. Headlights are fantastic - super bright, automatic low/high beams plus DRL. Nice heads up display on the windshield - easily seen but not distracting and you can turn it off if you want. When using the nav, the heads up display shows turn arrows. Neat! The dynamic cruise control, lane departure warning, and blind spot warning are highly useful. The best tech feature for me is the rear cross traffic alert, which greatly eases the worry about slowly backing out of a spot with obscured side vision. It detects cars 2-3 seconds before they cross behind you, leaving plenty of warning to brake. Large color backup monitor - via nav screen. Toyota wisely moved the transmission lever back to the dash and improved and lengthened the armrest. My 2007 had the best armrest ever made and then the 2012 backslid to a center console with trans lever. The 2016 corrected the error. Cons: not many and not very bothersome. The rear legroom is a bit less but still adequate. The rear headrests fold down - much like the 2012 -- so the rear visibility is about the same. No spare - not a deal breaker - so a little more rear cargo space. The brakes are touchy. Wind and road noise are supposedly better than previous models but seem the same to me (i.e. perfectly acceptable). The driver position is a bit lower than the 2012 - visibility isnt hindered as the window sills are lower - but I have easily adjusted (while admittedly preferring the old, higher level) On balance, this is a very significant upgrade. The tech package is worth every penny. Note that the Prius Four Touring does not have a sun-roof.

  • Hey! 58 mpg aint bad! 2016 Prius 3 Touring - 2016 Toyota Prius
    By -

Four tanks of gas on my brand new 2016 Prius 3 Touring. Each one @ around 500 miles. Tank 1 = 56 mpg. Tank2=58 mpg. Tank 3=61 mpg. Tank 4= 57 mpg (driving over 11,000 ft. continental divide twice same day). Total AVG = 58 mpg. Most miles are highway, but drive it nearly everywhere including all my short shopping trips to store, etc. Im very pleased. Before this, I owned a 2004 Prius that I put 175,000 original miles on it. When I drove the 2004 over the continental divide, the mileage dropped into the low 40s. As shown on tank #4 stats above, the new Prius 3 held up immensely well at 57 mpg. One thing my wife definitely doesnt like is the lack of storage, but then again, you ought to see her purse! I actually wanted to try out a new 2017 Volt, but after seeing several write ups of inverter problems that are a huge mechanical problem to correct, I decided to stay with the Prius.
