This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

  • GREAT CAR - 2005 Toyota Prius

This car is amazing and I will never not own another hybrid again! I am thrilled with the gas mileage, which has been 51-52 mpg average. I couldnt be happier.

  • Best car Ive ever owned!!! - 2005 Toyota Prius

Its a great car throughout. Everything works perfectly and it drives far better than turbo-powered Passat I used own. Its very roomy for a small car. I live in New England and it has great winter traction. Its comfortable cruising at 70+ as well (though the gas mileage goes down to "just" 40). I have the GPS/NAV system and keyless entry. Its required no maintenance so far and the drive train is actually simpler than a typical automatic transmission.

  • About as good as it gets - 2005 Toyota Prius

We traded in our 2003 Element for something with better mileage and a better ride. Lucky we got it right before the last round of gas price hikes. I like sitting in traffic with the engine off, it is nice to know that we are not wasting any fuel then. I am happy overall, of course I wish there was more power, but I know the trade off would be worse mileage. I can live with it. It is comfortable for 4 adults, and everyone who has riden in it has remarked how nice it is and how "cool" it looks inside. Over the past couple of fill ups we have gotten 44.6 and 49.5 MPG with about 50/50 city/ highway driving. Much better than the 20-22 we got out of the Element. Happy with it so far.

  • Question on Electronics - 2005 Toyota Prius

Yesterday, I hit the wrong button, pushed Power instead of Park. This morning, it took three tries to get started, and any time I park on a slant, it really doesnt want to start. Its my fault, but the dealer cant find anything wrong with the electronics. Other than that, its been wonderful to drive and I do a lot of that!

After doing extensive research we dedided to get the 2005 Prius. Now everyone we take for a drive wants one! It is fantastic! We get a minimum of 40MPG with A/C running all the time. Very comfortable, smooth ride, quiet and spacious. Everyone is very impressed with it.

  • The perfect car - 2005 Toyota Prius
    By -

When gas started top go up in price earlier this year, I decided to get an economy car. After test driving a Camry, Matrix and a Prius, I decided on the Prius and never looked back. Gas mileage averages 53.1 MPG, mixed city driving along with an 80 mile round trip commute evenly divided 60MPH and 45MPH speed limits. Excelent handling, very comfortable and now that I have learned to use them, the GPS Navigation and cellular Bluetooth are indespensable and would not like to learn to have to do without them. After a weeks of driving, I have to fill my gas tank, and it usually takes less than 9 gallons. Doesnt get any better than that.

  • Great Car! - 2005 Toyota Prius

Well worth the 8 mos wait. I love the MPG and keep challanging myself to improve it. I only have 2300 miles and I expect it to improve after the breakin period. Presently getting 45 MPG. Using the the cruise control helps in managing the mpg. I set the cruse and then decelerate 1mph at a time as I go up hill. Going downhill increase it 1 mph. Trip to Atlantic City I avg 57.3mpg. Also using a higher grade fuel helps to improve mpg. The few extra cents is well worth it since Im spending less than half the amount then on my escort.

  • Super Car For Pet Sitting Business - 2005 Toyota Prius
    By -

This car is a Pet Sitters dream for gas milage and dependabilaity. Here in Maine my customers are far apart, so I really save on gas. I cant say enough good things about this car. Its great for a business car.

  • Fantastic by any standard - 2005 Toyota Prius
    By -

Great car, if it suits your needs, by any standard. The nit picking reviews that youve read are basicly just looking for something to pick on. Drive this car like any other car and expect 45mpg. Drive carefully and learn the techniques and 55 is attainable often. Its too much fun to describe. The smark key system is a MUST!!
