This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

Its just a fun car. There is a learning curve involved with getting the promised mileage. Once you learn to ease your foot off the gas and trust the electric motor, the gas savings can be impressive.

I had read all about the Prius and enjoyed my short test drive, but not until I took delivery and really put the car through its paces did I begin to smile broadly. The Prius is peppy, accelates well, feels responsive and stable and handles like a dream. The gas tank only holds 10 gallons, but since I get a combined (real world, not the EPA fantasy driving figures) 45mpg, that means I could drive 450 miles between refills. One really doesnt notice when the car shifts between gas and electric, except for the cool display screen. The only problem I had was the upgraded stereo conked out after 5,000 miles. A new receiver, installed under warranty, solved that.

I love driving my Prius. It is as smooth as a Magic Carpet Ride. It is soft and easy to handle and yet still has the European feel when driving, just softer and quieter. The touch screens are easy to work with and it shows me in several ways exactly how much gasoline it is using and how many gallons per mile it is using at any given time. It teaches you how to drive safer and more carefully to not use as much gasoline and after 1100 miles, Im averaging, realistically, 47 miles per gallon.

I am an electrical power engineer, so I like the technology incorporated in the Prius. I was not in the market, but rode in my brothers Prius in May, read several reviews, and got interested. Then I received my IEEE magazine with an article explaining why the Prius is the only family size vehicle that can provide an immediate reduction in gasoline usage and emissions. It explains why hydrogen fuel cells use more petroleum at this time, and estimates 10 years before fuel cells will be helpful. With pricing starting below $20k, and all the great features and options, I decided to not wait, and placed an order in June. Took delivery in 3 weeks at that time.

Lots of room in front seats. With hatchback model able to fit more in - went camping with it and fit in stuff for three. Gas mileage not nearly what was projected. With 5000 miles on the car, I average 38mpg around town and 45 on highway (oppisite of what they quoted - and geting less as engine ages). The best Ive gotten is 50mpg - all freeway miles in rush hour traffic. Handles poorly on wet road - slips a lot.

McPherson strut bolts had to be retorqued at 23500. Original tires Goodyear integrity lasted only 22,500. Dealership treatment was EXCELLENT! Have another on order. Get your order in-You wont be disappointed! Car is very fast. Goes by everything including GAS Stations! Wonderful utility with hatchback.

I havent been in love with a car since my 69 Mustang in high school. It has totally changed my driving habits. Now, instead of trying to get from point A to B as fast as possible, I try to get the best mileage. I love the space in the cargo area and for me it is a very comfortable ride.

Best car, by far, that we every bought. Unbelievable handling and turning radius. Gas mileage? I get 48 to 55 MPG. Rides like a caddy. You cant tell when it shifts from gas to electric and back. Smooth, keyless entry, keyless starting, is great. Bluetooth interfaces with my cell phone, voice commands, GPS system, very high tech, like your riding in a Jetsons car! Stopping power is great, the anti lock system stops the car on a dime. We will buy another next year, will never buy an all gasoline car again.

I had this car for about 1 week, No problems runs smooth. Fuel Economy is closer to 48 mpg way below the 60 reported by the EPA. That was disappointing. However the freeway consistently topped at 51. Fun car to drive...

I have had my Prius for a little over two months now and have 2100 miles on it. the car is great to drive and I must admit I love it. I bought it to use to run errands and now its my main car. Especially with the ability to use it in the carpool lane as a solo driver. Everything about the car is great. I have no negatives here. I had no idea about all the options that came on it and am very pleased. DVD navigation, keyless start blue tooth etc., all great.
