Overview & Reviews
For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.
- Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
- Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

Has flaws, but still loving it... - 2005 Toyota Prius
By XOXOPrius(= - February 21 - 4:20 pmI absolutely love this car the gas mileage is excellent and even meets and exceeds the mpg when in ideal situations (lots of stop and go, coasting down hill, etc). However I dont attain it too often because I have a lead foot and live in a small city that doesnt see too many stops. Most of my gas usage is spent when the gas engine recharges the battery after starting. The spoiler in back seems to be a little delicate. Im afraid Ill break it if I slam the trunk too hard. Also, the interior should be more resilient. Ive already noticed that the paint is peeling on the glove compartment. Maybe Toyota or an accessories shop could design covers to customize or conceal the original look.

Best car I ever owned - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Mike - February 11 - 7:20 pmThe mileage you know about. This car barely sips regular gasoline. The Prius has every possible feature that doesnt add weight, carefully planned, fully integrated, and built with quality. When GM and Ford complain that their cars dont sell, ask them why they insist on building gas guzzling SUVs instead of fuel efficient hybrids.

Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Valerie - February 4 - 9:40 pmAlthough Ive only owned my car for about a month, I can say that it is by far the most fun car I have ever driven. It takes San Francisco hills with ease. The sense of control on the road is excellent with great visibility all around. And you sit up fairly high for such a small vehicle.

Highly Recommended - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Jared - January 30 - 4:26 amI have had my Prius for 2 weeks. It is very quiet, comfortable and fuel effecient. It has enough power to pass when needed. Brakes are very responsive. Interior space about the same as a Camry. Electric steering is precise, if a little dead feeling. I fill up for $22.00 and go over 500 miles. Smart key is very good - the key stays in your pocket all the time. This car is very good value for the money not just because of the mileage but because of the advanced technology. It is about the same price as a Camry but far more advanced. Ill let you know about reliability in ten years ...

BEST HYBRID ON THE MARKET - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Bill J - January 24 - 3:36 pmI have never been as excited about a car as I am about this one. It is so nice to drive that I just want to stay in it all the time. Race car tight steering and stability, yet has an amazingly smooth comfortable ride. The car teaches and creates a desire to achieve higher MPG as you watch the Energy Display Graphics. I am averaging 52.5 MPG. Stop and go and slow travel on the Highway gives you your best MPG. I have driven four miles up to a speed of 41 MPH before the gas engene has started on the Highway. The Climate control, sound system, Navagation system and the many others are so easy to access on the steering wheel and display screen. All these things make it fun to drive.

Sweet Car - 2005 Toyota Prius
By David - January 22 - 5:03 amThis car is fun to drive. I went over 600 miles on my first tank of gas (in a12 gallon tank, you do the math ;-)). Many of the standard features were nicer than my Mercedes. It is obvious the Prius gets awesome mileage, but what you dont expect are the nice standard features and comfort...

Original Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius
By PEAJEAN - January 20 - 10:00 amI have owned a 2001 Prius and have loved my car since November of 2000. Had to select the hatchback, but it is the original sedan. Presently showing 52 MPG on its computer screen. The Zapper loves warm weather, and the lowest is winter mileage about 39MPG. Initial problems all under warranty. Why pay twice as much per gallon and arrive at the same place at the same time as another sedan? Tax credit the first year, and gas economy ever since. Have taken it to Detroit and into the hills of Tennessee. No problems with hills, and turns on a dime.Take four more, three more with comfort. Watch for ZAP GAS in Columbus, Ohio, driven by a retired school teacher lady.

Its Worth Waiting For! - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Kay - January 15 - 3:46 pmThis is a fun to drive, fuel efficient automobile! It took a few days to become accustomed to the different driving features and the smart-key entry system. Now its second nature and Ive never regretted the purchase.

delivers everything I want - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Mark - December 31 - 11:13 pmThe Prius offers outstanding comfort, features, and plenty of power, while reducing emissions and dependence on foreign oil. Four-door hatchback design makes it easy to bring along our dog or bulky cargo items. The controls, while unusual compared to other vehicles, are the most ergonomic Ive ever seen.
