Overview & Reviews
For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.
- Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
- Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

Great car - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Howard J. Huemmler - April 4 - 5:40 pmGot 53 mpg avg. for 8700 miles. Old car got 23. Go figure, literally. At $2.70/gal and 20000 miles annual usage, were saving $2240/yr. So breakeven time for purchase price difference should be a couple of years. It is also comforting to know that we are killing demand, not people. This in addition to emissions reduction. Isnt this a no brainer for these three reasons?

Fabulous Car - 2005 Toyota Prius
By thymetobe - April 1 - 2:33 pmI love this car. You need to know that unless you are constantly in bumper to bumper traffic you will not get 60 mpg. A dealership service department told me 43 was the average. Still not too shabby.

A Marvelous Car - 2005 Toyota Prius
By bob mc - April 1 - 1:06 pmI have only had this car a very short time, but I truly think that this is the wave of the future. It is a real value, I purchased the package#1, the basic model, it it is very nicely equipped. My average mileage is now 45/mph , and has gone as high as 52.It is comfortable, all controls are very accessible, extremely quiet, and a lot of fun to drive. The only fault I can find with it , is the upholstery, very light in color, and seems it would get dirty quite easily. The interior room is very good, lots of cargo space, with and without the back seats folded down. This is a marvelous car, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Tires bad already - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Bea - March 28 - 10:40 pmWe had a 2001 Prius sedan. The tires didnt last very long so when we went to buy our 2005, we specifically asked about tires. We were assured the problem had been taken care of. However, the tires on the 2005 havent lasted any longer. We are at 20,000 miles and have been told we need replacements at next service. Evidently, the sales people and service people have never communicated about the problem. What you save on gas, you spend on tires so gas saving is not a good reason to buy this car. Also, the sedan was easier to drive. The hatchback has blind spots. The hatchback open so high, you have to be careful of overhead garage doors. Be careful not to shut door when hatch is open.

So Happy - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Harley Sexton - March 28 - 1:16 amWe just completed a 4500 mile trip to Vegas and back. Average mileage was 52.4mpg. Every aspect of the car was a joy. Especially in 108 degree weather, when we could leave the air conditioning on while we were away from the car. Coming back to a cool car was such a delight. Catch up, American manufacturers!!!! I would like to buy American.

Green Gem - 2005 Toyota Prius
By MUlrickson - March 11 - 10:43 pmThis vehicle has surprising performance, quickly accelerating for on ramps and passing cars on two lane hi-ways. Turning radius is excellent. It has surprising interior room, with plenty of leg room in front and rear. Our vehicle was achieving 48 to 53 mph in city driving during summer and fall driving, but has fallen close to 40 during winter driving. We are on the wait list to receive another.

Best Surprise on the Road - 2005 Toyota Prius
By winband - February 27 - 2:36 pmI bought my Prius on the day of hurricane Katrina... had a bad feeling about gas prices since I drove an Chevy Avalanche and had just filled up for $75. I needed room, comfort, economy, and dependability and the Prius has not disappointed me one single bit! This is a MOST surprising car! I suggest you drive one before you think it cant be for real - its absolutly great! Im saving about $250 a month on my gas bill and loving every minute of my driving time!
