This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

This car shows just what a company with a direction and focus can do for the consumer. There is a certain joy that comes when getting 47 miles per gallon. U.S. auto makers had better get with it...and fast!

I’ve been driving this car for 11 months. I drove to Richmond Hills GA, a distance of 421 miles on 10.6 gals of gas. On interstate 95 it handle very well was able to cruise at the posted speed limits of 65 to 70 miles with no effort. In town driving I’ve received 49 mpg by staying off the interstate. When I drive in town and the interstate I average 43.3 mpg. I find it a fun car to drive. I like it clean lines, it a car who time has come. I’m looking forward to driving it cross-country. I’ve been driving for 55 years and truly enjoy driving this car. Before I purchase this car I drove a Buick Park Avenue Ultra for over 100000 miles on it.

This car had been perfect until a few weeks ago. With about 80,000 miles on it a warning light went on and we were told by a dealer it was due to the failure of part of the computer system to the tune of $2230. Weve had six other Toyotas and have never had a major problem. With such low mileage, how can we continue to recommend this car to others? Were very angry being oldsters trying to navigate this economy with SSA and part time work. Disgusted.

I have only had this vehicle for two months. I like the idea of the good gas milage. The ignition and door unlocking system is nice since you need not dig out your keys. The heater system is slower to warm up than our Camry. The slow heat-up is somewhat a nuisance in Iowa in the winter. The lower part of the hatch where the hatch latch is located seems to collect dirt rather quickly. I am very pleased with the vehicle and would recomend it to people that are conscious about energy consumption.

  • Prius makes it fun to drive again! - 2005 Toyota Prius

My Prius is just over a year old and it is the first car that Ive owned in the last 20 years that has actually been fun to drive. Ive always had big cars, (Detroit Iron) for the comfort but we have just completed a four thousand mile motor trip and the Prius was more comfortable than my Chysler LHS or Buick Park Avenue and at 56 mpg. The car looks small from the outside but has plenty of head and leg room and the seats sit high so that you can see whats going on around the vehicle. I really enjoy this car unlike my last several vehicles that were just transportation.

I went from a comfortable mid size SUV to the Prius a couple of months ago. I knew I would save money on gas but thought I would be giving up comfort (or something) in return. I didt, granted I cant tow a boat with it but for everyday use and even long trips it really cant be beat! We have traveled a few hundred miles with 4 adults and no problems. The acceleration for highway driving is fine, no different than most other cars. It is a challenge to reverse everything we have learned as drivers to conserve fuel, ie: stop and go gets better mileage. The EPA estimates at 55hwy/60city I find a bit over rated but I have been averaging 48 mpg and did reach 50 mpg on my last tank.

Ive had 17 vehicles so far at the age of 28. From 1967 to 2004 and chevy to toyota this car is quite impressive. At first you may be taken by the overall exterior design, but once you get in this car everything changes. Its like a computer on wheels and has every accessory youll ever need. The interactive display is amazing with the navigation and integrated phone system. Plus the added bonus of seeing what engine is running and what MPG your getting at any specific point in time while your driving. Its interesting to know that your gas engine is off whenever your coasting, braking, or in stop and go traffic. You have got to test drive this car to get the feel of it.I guarantee youll buy

My guess is the first generation Prius has hurt the new model. Most folks are amazed at the interior room of front and back seats, Front seats are very ng vi easy to take on long rides.Grey cloth seems to show slight wear after only 10 months and easy use. Perhaps the 2006 will have better cloth or even leatherette would be better. Car is smooth at all speeds and especially quiet for the driver.Engine shut down in traffic is great feature that few cars can have.$75k BMW owners do not have this great feature. A/C works great at all times, even at a stop. Technology is terrific at this price.MPG complainers are possibly inaccurate in their tests as my typical reult is 53 mpg in mix

We enjoy driving our Prius past gas stations and on the open road. Able to keep up with the traffic on the express way as well as an easy and reliable drive in the snows of the UP of Michigan. Come on US auto makers catch us if you can. We would love to buy American, and will when they can match the quality of Toyota.

The product development folks at Toyota have really done their homework on this vehicle. All problem areas of the previous iteration of the Prius have been addressed and, overall, put out a magnificent little vehicle. Handling, power, convenience features, comfort, fit and finish, economy, storage facilities are all excellent.
