This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

  • Wonderful car - 2005 Toyota Prius

The car delivers between 43.5 MPG and 45 MPG using a very heavy foot (going between 50 and 80 MPH in winter) and an average of 48 MPH when feathering the accelerator responsibly (up to 65 MPH). The best I have achieved doing a normal commuting week (20 miles each way from 50 to 65MPH)is 51.5 MPG. I am extremely pleased with the car and gas mileage. I know I would get over 50MPG in city driving. The interior design is beautifully done particularly, as it relates to use of space. The instrument panel displays are incredible and outside views (front and back)are excellent. (Tiny front windows, drop down hatchback trunk window and contoured roof line shows perfect engineering design

  • Wonderful car, but... - 2005 Toyota Prius

We were on waiting lists at 2 dealerships in Tampa for almost 6 months before we got our Prius. It was definitely worth the wait. We absolutely love this car. We use it as our family car and have very few complaints. We have found the joys definitely outweigh the headaches in this car. We have a fully loaded Prius (because that was what was available) and we thought the DVD nav system was a waste - now we cant live without it! Being able to monitor fuel consumption (we average around 50mpg)and the battery level are helpful features. We hope to keep this car for many years to come.

  • I love my Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius

I recently drove from Richmond, VA to Cold Spring, NY and averaged 63.5 mpg. It was the most comfortable trip I have ever taken. I wouldnt trade my Prius for anything (other than maybe another Prius). I would have given each category more than 10 if possible.

Every one I have shown this hard to get vehicle has been envious. Even other dealerships have been enthusiasic.

  • POOR RELIABILITY, MPG NOT AS ADVERTISED - 2005 Toyota Prius

In the first 2 months I have been left stranded twice "Oh what a feeling!" Mileage has been 40-43, not bad, but much less than promised. Acceleration is week, but you have to give up something for 60 mpg, oh I mean 43 mpg. The Prius understeers alot when pushed in the corners, but I guess it was never ment to have sportscar handling.

If you pay attention to your driving, you can achieve the EPA mileage figures. But if you just drive it like a normal car, youll still get 44 mpg combined. All cars do worse in the real world than on the EPA test; but most people dont notice because their cars dont have the continuous on-screen reminder of their fuel consumption that the Prius does.

  • WOWZER!! - 2005 Toyota Prius

Going from my husbands F150 to this car, the difference in mileage is amazing. Even going against my car, a Grand Prix that get 26 miles to the gallon, the Prius gets twice as much. I am trading in my car at the end of this year and we are going to be Prius owners all the way... it gives you much better gas mileage and really doesnt sacrifice power!!

I was a bit reluctant to buy a new vehicle that was a hybrid. Any doubts or reservations are gone. It is truly a wonderful vehicle

  • Everyone Should Drive a Hybrid - 2005 Toyota Prius

I really love my Prius, Toyota. It rides smoothly, comfortable, roomy, and it is great on gas mileage - 42 mpg in the city - with gasoline averaging at $3.35 a gallon - I love it!

  • Awsome Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius

Comfortable for five passengers Excellent fuel efficiency Surprisingly good power/ acceleration from a stop Even in the high country the battery pack and electric engine allow for driving at full highway speeds (70+ mph) Has been a joy to own
