This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

Whats to say. We have two Priui (plural?). Each averages 45+ mpg overall. Costs $14 to fill up for over a weeks worth of driving. A friends SUV costs him $76 three times a week!

We did a lot of research before deciding on the Prius. Now we never look back. We steadily average 46 MPG. We are not disappointed that it doesnt get the 60 mpg as rated since we know the old rating system is inaccurate, but still, 46 mpg is pretty damn awesome! Great, smooth ride. Very roomy interior and still room for cargo. We got package 6 with the nav system which is great. Driving the Prius has become a game to get best mileage and has now taught me how to get better mileage in my Expedition. Im now just waiting to replace the Expedition with a big SUV hybrid such as Yukon or Escalade. We plan on getting the plug in Prius in 2009.

I drive mostly country roads and interstates. In winter, I always get at least 47 mpg. In summer I always get over 50 mpg (usually 52). Reviews reporting low 40s must either be in very cold climates or must be from drivers attempting to get low mpg. My year-round average is about 50.

I bought a Prius before Hurricane Katrina. Now that prices are back down, my neighbors snicker as they get into their Escalades and Expeditions. For most people I have met, the Prius seems too extreme. However, I enjoy the car so much that I find myself interested in long trips again. I volunteer to run errands. It is just "fun". The performance is much better than I expected, and although initial acceleration is a little pokey, passing is easy and the car does fine at highway speeds. The ride is comfortable, the interior is ergonomically pleasing, and I have room for my family (3 kids). Finally, I feel confident that I am saving energy.

We have had many cars, from Volvo to Acuras, but the Prius is my favorite. I just love the way it handles and it has speed. My only problem is that somone hit me from the back and almost totaled it.

We sit in traffic with the AC, radio, lights all working. The engine is off. Unless the big battery gets too low it will keep car comfortable no mater what. Then it engine will kick on and fast charge. Not happend to us in 3300 miles so far. On the road we get 55 mpg at 65. 49+ at 70. In town it tops at about 50 mpg. Display can show just how well the car is doing in the energy consumption.

425 miles and i still had a bar left on my fuel tank, this is the best car to have when you have to travel 68 miles to and from work everyday! i even went as high as 60/mpg, oh yes, i put that $4000.00 battery to use baby!!

I absolutely love my 2005 Prius. I find it is comfortable to ride in, even having had 3 fusions surgeries on my back. It is also fun to drive and has plenty of power. My best mileage so far was on the freeway when I got close to 50 mpg.
