Overview & Reviews
For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.
- Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
- Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

Why I gave up my Lexus for this - 2005 Toyota Prius
By JohnDK - September 20 - 10:00 amI turned in my Lexus early. Lease was costing too much per mile and the price of gas at 18mpg is now $30 per tank. I was hoping only for great gas milage and got that and more. Driving the Prius is like driving the future. Its 98% smooth, not luxurious. I would have liked all auto windows, power seats, leather, memory on seat position, etc. And they COULD do this and add another few thousand to this car. But just the way it is, is amazing. Thats why there is a 4-6 month wait for these and people are paying $500-$2000 over MSRP. How stupid are we in America.. WE should be building these. Drives fair to good, Dont expect a BMW or Lexus.

Almost Perfect - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Doug - September 9 - 7:53 pmExcellently designed vehicle, great (like every toyota I have ever driven) interior design. Dont believe the 60 MPG, around town I nominally get 50 during summer, and 45+ during winter, on the road drop that a mile or two.

Patty - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Patty - September 3 - 10:20 amThis is the best car I have ever driven. I drove across country in, 2300 miles 31/2 days, just me and my little dog and neither one of us was tired when we got there. By the way I am 63 years old.

Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius
By noone - August 14 - 6:56 pmGetting the best mileage requires relearning how to drive. Either use cruise control where safe, or back off on the accelerator once cruising speed is reached. Use the feedback displays to optimize speed vs. consumption.

The surprise car of the decade! - 2005 Toyota Prius
By mr_whippet_2001 - July 24 - 12:50 pmI would say one of the most surprising aspects of this car is the power... especially if you have to punch it from a stop. Here in southern Cal you will find an unfriendly car a centimeter away from your bumper if you arent breaking the speed of sound while in the fast lane. Im happy to report this car has no problem keeping up with others even going up a steep grade on our hwy 101!

Love My Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Richard K - July 23 - 7:23 pmThis car is everything I expected and more. I get 50 miles to the gallon on the highway and about 46 or 47 in city driving and I love everything about it.

Smartest and Most Impulsive Decision - 2005 Toyota Prius
By My Pree - July 10 - 10:46 pmI am absolutely in love with my white Prius. It was an impulsive buy on my part. While other dealerships are running wait lists of over a month for the Prius, I found my car sitting in the dealership lot. Within 24 hours, I traded in my 3-year old VW Golf that was giving me more headaches for a brand new Prius. I drove away very happy with my impulsive buy. I am still in awe with my car after 3 weeks!

Wake Up, This is the future !! - 2005 Toyota Prius
By John B. Crain - July 8 - 4:03 pmThis is like driving a dream! I really bought the car because of the clean burn, the gas millage was just an added benefit! I had been asking around for many years about this car. I went in cold without even a test drive. I was convinced that the damage done by the emissions of our internal combustion engines was going to kill us all after it destroyed our enviorment. I own a 96 Lincoln Town Car and a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I use as a tow vehicle for my 26 sailboat. The Prius outpreforms both of my Cars!! I covered the Lincoln! I do use the Jeep in snow conditions. Im 74 and I guess you would call me an aggressive driver- I have never owned a better car!!

My Part - 2005 Toyota Prius
By gailh - June 29 - 2:26 amMy car just saved my life. On I-5, a 18-wheeler threw an exploding tire at us while we were traveling at 70 MPH. First bounce was only 5 feet in front of us and the Prius steering and braking system handled it beautifully. I sustained some significant damage to the front bumper system, but we were unscathed. I love the car! I love the mileage! I love the feeling I have driving it!
