For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

  • Prius: Great Car For Today - 2005 Toyota Prius

I purchased a used 2005 Toyota Prius with 6600 miles on it in the summer of 2005. The car now has over 28,000 miles on it. I have driven the car in most kinds of weather. My longest vacation trip was about 1800 miles. The car has performed magnificently. I have gotten as high as 59 mpg on one short trip. I averaged over 51 mpg on my 1800 mile vacation trip where I traveled at 70 mph and more. Mostly, I get about 48 mpg in summer and about 43 mpg in winter in general driving around Mt. Vernon and Evansville. The dealer says thats about normal.

  • From 2 supercharged SUVs to a hybrid - 2005 Toyota Prius

I have always been into big horspower, performance cars. I finally realized it was insane to only get 12 -14 mpg. using premium fuel @ close to $3.00 a gallon in California. I laughed at this litte car until I drove one. It flys, it is very well designed with lots of interior room and more space age electronic features than I can currently understand. The mileage is a bit less than claimed at about 45 mpg. I think its great.

  • I love this car! - 2005 Toyota Prius

I really love this car. Consistently 50 mpg (75% highway driving). More when I stick around town. The smart key feature is wonderful!!! When I get into my husbands car, I forget that I need to use a key! The ride is great for a lightweight car and I feel very secure with all of the airbags. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants great MPG and something fun to drive!

We waited 8 months to get the car and it has proven to be very worthwhile. We are approaching 15k miles and enjoying 45mpg city and 54 mpg hwy. Performance is excellent. Dash and door finishes seem to scar quite easily and should be remided to improve quality. Driving quality is near perfect.

  • TERRIFIC CAR!! - 2005 Toyota Prius

We love our Prius!! Weve had it almost 9 months and are thrilled with the gas mileage. In warmer weather, (45-50 degrees or above) we have averaged 50 MPG. Now that it is cold we are averaging about 40-42 MPG. We have changed the way we drive, with no "Jack- rabbit" starts or stops, and we saw a big difference in mileage from when we got the car originally to several months after we got it. it was a definite learning process. It is a wonderful car!! We highly recommend it!!

  • My best Toyota ever - 2005 Toyota Prius

This is the best car I have ever owned for fuel economy and has plenty of room inside and rides great. I got a package 5 so Im very happy with all of the features that are in the auto. It is easy to park and fantastic on a long trip. It has great pickup when needed and the fuel economy isnt as expected yet but more than enough to please me for what I spent for the car. Drive one & you will love it.

  • The Near-Perfect Car for Me! - 2005 Toyota Prius

I drive in miserly fashion, which just happens to take advantage of this cars hybrid system! So far on two tanks, the computer has averaged ~55mpg. Im thrilled that Im able to travel so far on so little. Once I learned when the system takes advantage of the electric drive, I always strive to have it propel the car - of course, as the situation dictates. On one street near here Im able to move nearly one-plus mile on electricity alone. Also, its great to drive in parking lots knowing you just move on electricity and not gasin it and stopin. I should have bought one earlier! Just the right balance of power for the car! Get one!

The most surprising thing to me about my Prius, is the power. The handling would be second, just excellent! Finally, it is such a substantial car for the price category.

  • Very Pleased Prius Owner - 2005 Toyota Prius

I have owned this vehicle for a few months now and am extremely pleased with its performance. Average consistently 50-55mpg (city) and 55-58 (highway). A very quiet vehicle (especially at lights when the engine is off and one hears nothing), very roomy, back seats fold for extra room for storage. Love the energy consumption display, encourages efficient driving and increases awareness of better driving! The energy display also helps learn mpg over a historic period of time. The vehicle is not an especially powerful car and is no sports car, but then again, its a hybrid. The Prius is a great buy for these high gas price times!

  • Happy but can be happier - 2005 Toyota Prius

We have only owned for one month its much better than we thought it would be. At 62 215 I have enough head room in front seat but not the back, my wife is 53" so she is fine. Average 49mpg, happy with that. It is worth the money.
