This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

  • Im so glad I have this car! - 2005 Toyota Prius

I just bought this car in July and it is so fun. Everything is so visual. I drove through California and at times got 50 to 55 mpgs depending if i was going down hill. Other times, i got between 35-45. I love the navigation system and the fact that you dont actually need to use your key to get in and start. As long as you have it on your person, you can access it. This car has excellent stability and smooth driving. I had no problem accelerating to pass cars if i needed to. There are a lot of great features to this car, but my favorite is the gas mileage. This is the best investment Ive ever made and I am looking forward to my $2000 tax rebate next year.

We think this the best small car that we have ever owned a great car to drive anywhere you want to go. Would recomend this car to the worst critic.

This is the best car Ive ever owned, and I recommend and "sell" them to others all the time. The only reason Ill give up my Prius is if they get a minivan with the Synergy system...

I have had the Prius for a month and came to love it after the first week of getting accustomed to it. The car has a lot of pick-up; it gets 50mpg most of the time and handles really well. I am hooked and in addition, I feel I am doing something good for Mother Earth. It is also roomy inside. I had a Nissan Altima for 7 years and loved it but the Prius has won me over.

  • Great car the Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius

I have a 2005 Prius and could not ask for a better car. After 26 tanks of gas last year I averaged 53 miles per gallon. The only thing I would suggest to Toyota is to make the seats a bit more comfortable. Im in real estate and this is the car to have if youre an agent.

When first researching this car, I was concerned that there would not be enough power. I drive through mountainous terrain, and especially with snow, it can be challenging on a vehicle. The Prius has held up wonderfully through mountains and snow. The OEM tires are bad in slick conditions, but that can be accounted for easily enough. Even with not driving perfectly and going through non-optimal conditions, the Prius is averaging 45 mpg. Its not a sports car, but has enough pick-up to merge directly into interstate traffic with no problem. The smart key system is awesome, I never have to take out my key. And I love how quiet it is.

NEVER LOOK BACK! Liked it so much, traded in an 04 for this one. Ride could be quieter. Love the mileage of 42 with my lead foot. Have the loaded option package and would not do without any of the features. Navigation system is unbelievable! Interior room galore for full sized adults (I am 350, 6). Exterior will scratch too easily but not too badly. Voice recognition needs improvment due to interior noise levels in traffic. I will never buy another gas only vehicle. Thanks Toyota.

  • Prius Driver Upgrades to Another Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius

After driving an 03 Prius for 80,000 Km (50,000 Mi), I was so pleased with everything about the Prius, that I traded it in on the larger 05 Prius. Besides getting me to work in Toronto Canada and volunteer driving of seniors, I drive to the cottage, to Florida, to New Brunswick and just this weekend, drove round trip to Wisconsin. The drive is so quiet and smooth that I do not tire at the wheel and do not have a problem with "Road Rage" because my engine is off when Im sitting in traffic and this can be actually quite "calming".

This vehicle has exceeded my expectations. Fuel economy is better than I expected (52-54 MPG) considering driving in an often hilly terrain. Quiet and smooth ride. Love the tech innovations. The Consumption display has changed how I drive. In a world where we are faced with issues of pollution and global warming, and reliance on fossil fuels and the related political implications of oil influencing our foreign policy, this car is a great alternative for a better world. Therefore, to me it is so worth spending thousands more for a company like Toyota to reward them for all the developmental costs they put into hybrid technology.
