This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

I was looking for an economic gas car, the dealer show me the Hybrid Prius Toyota and I have to be honest I was a little bit afraid to buy it because I did not know anything about it.I found now I did a very good selection and I am more than happy with my excellent car

Fabulous car....I am amazed at the smoothness of this car. It has incedible power and the gas mileage is fantastic. I commute 40 miles each way every day and still average between 44 and 48 mpg. I also love what I am doing for our earth and the environment driving this vehicle. It is a PZEV..Partical Zero Emission Vehicle.

The Prius is fun to drive. I love the technology of the brake regenerating electric power. I get a kick out of fighting my own personal war on terror by limiting the money I send to the oil to the fascist terror masters on Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Dont expect the advertised 50 - 60 mpg. Best Ive done is 44 miles per gallon and Ive talked to other Prius owners with the same experience. Great road handling and ride. Fast 0-60 and actually, the faster you go the easier it is on gasoline since the electric engine kicks in. If you want a $20,000 model expect to wait two years for one. The upgrade to leather and nav system is well worth it. The Pirelli performance tires and fancy 17 inch wheels are prone to flats from potholes. This baby is fast with great speed and transmission.

I love my 2005 Prius. The sticker of course says 52-60 mpg, but realistically you can probably expect 47-52 mpg. I live in Colorado and have driven it several times up to the mountains for a day of skiing and the car really moves up the hill with no problems.

  • Cheap Car - 2005 Toyota Prius

Make no mistake, this is a cheap feeling car. Its light, noisy, rides rough, and has no refinement or elegance whatsoever. It drives and feels like those mini Toyota Tercels that girls drove in college. The interior is plastic (silver plastic?), and the dashboard screams cheap and plastic. Ive already had a door piece fall off. Its not nearly a midsize; sit in it and compare it to a Camry. It also gets blown all over the road, and gooses itself up hills. For $22,000+, this car isnt a real car. This is the most expensive car Ive bought, yet it drives and feels like the cheapest. Wait for the hybrid Camry, or try a hybrid Civic or Accord.

This has been a great car so far. We average about 51 mpg even though we live on the side of a mountain and to a lot of mountain driving. I have not experienced a single problem with the Prius. My wife drives it most of the time and really loves it.

  • Drove cross country - 2005 Toyota Prius

I was surprised at how quick it it. I sold my Mercedes SL 500 and was expexting to really miss it. The Toyota Prius made that transition easy. I got about 34 MPG at 90 MPH and 38 MPG at 75 MPH and loved the way it handles. It has a very small turning circle, has plenty storage space and holds quite some luggage. I cant wait to see a larger car with this milage. Bottom line: I love this car, its the most fun I have had driving and feeling good about it.

  • The best car ever - 2005 Toyota Prius
    By -

I enoy driving the vehicle. The milage is excellent. I gave up quick acceleration but the mileage is worth the difference. I do not need quick acceleration; Jack rabbit accelerations waste fuel dramatically. The car handles very good. holds curves at highway speeds. The Prius is very roomy inside and confortable.

  • The best for gas mileage - 2005 Toyota Prius
    By -

Great gas mileage. Have consistently gotten between 48 & 52 mpg. Very roomy inside. Hatchback styling with rear seats that go down provide alot of room for packagaes and suitcases. Have to get used to the quietness of it especially at red lights when the engine is resting and you do not hear anything.
